WWE SummerSlam plans in chaos as things 'don't look good' for top star

Metro14-07-2025
SummerSlam is less than three weeks away, and WWE plans have been turned upside down.
Just weeks after Liv Morgan was forced on the shelf in a heartbreaking moment, Saturday Night's Main Event saw another devastating injury with major implications for the company's biggest storylines.
Over the weekend, Seth Rollins landed badly on his knee – which he's had issues with in the past – and hobbled to the corner.
After talking to referee Jessika Carr and a member of WWE's medical staff, the bout was cut short and LA Knight picked up a quick win, with reports claiming they 'called an audible' by changing the planned result on the fly.
On Sunday night, after the all-women's Evolution event, boss Paul 'Triple H' Levesque gave a concerning a update on Rollins' immediate future.
'Tomorrow night on Raw, we're gonna head down a new path, and I'm sure somebody here will ask about Seth. I'll just say right now, little bit inconclusive,' he said in a press conference. 'Doesn't look good.'
There had been reports that Rollins was seen backstage at Evolution, walking on crutches with a protective boot.
Levesque noted the current Money In The Bank contract holder was at Evolution to support his wife Becky Lynch as she defended the Women's Intercontinental Championship against Lyra Valkyria and Bayley.
'He came here tonight, he was not going to miss his wife's performance,' he added.
'He's here – or, was here. He'll be in Birmingham[, Alabama] tomorrow with Dr. Dugas. We'll get [an] MRI and hope for the best, see where we can go with that.'
Although the SummerSlam card hasn't been revealed publicly yet, Rollins was expected to play a key role as his group – which includes Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed and Paul Heyman – has been heavily involves in several big rivalries.
Levesque hinted at changing plans, as he confirmed a Gauntlet Match for tonight's episode of Monday Night Raw.
After his comments about Rollins, he said: 'In order to see where we go from there, tomorrow there will be a Gauntlet Match on Raw, maybe one of the biggest gauntlet matches we've ever done, I think.'
He announced that Bron will be in the bout along with Knight, Penta, CM Punk and Jey Uso 'to determine who will go to SummerSlam to face GUNTHER for the World Heavyweight Championship'.
The legendary wrestler teased: 'So, big night!'
Thus far, only a handful of matches have been announced for the historic first ever two-night SummerSlam on August 2 and 3. More Trending
John Cena will defend the WWE Title against King of the Ring winner Cody Rhodes, and Queen of the Ring Jade Cargill challenges Tiffany Stratton for the WWE Women's Championship.
As announced on SmackDown, there will also be a tag team match pitting Randy Orton and Jelly Roll against Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul.

WWE 2K25 icon claims new update is 'moment of completion in video game industry'

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video It's a big day for WWE 2K25, as the game gets a major new update and comes to a new format. As well as the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the record-breaking game, the Fearless DLC pack for WWE 2K25 is available today, featuring New Jack, Penta, and Jordynne Grace amongst the new characters being added to the game. New Jack is a fascinating one for fans, having built a fierce legacy in ECW as one of the boldest, most violent and most controversial figures in wrestling. ECW maestro and WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman exclusively told Metro why today's DLC is such an important release for the series. 'This is a moment of completion in the entire video game industry,' he said. 'You cannot deny New Jack's influence in sports entertainment/pro wrestling culture, nor should you deny his influence on video games.' Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. Heyman pointed out how a lot of people working in the business today grew up as fans of ECW and WWE during their childhood. 'Most of the people that are writing the codes that then become the video games were ECW or WWE fans,' he added. 'And I mean, are you telling me that those who make Grand Theft Auto weren't influenced by New Jack? Come on!' New Jack is part of this week's Fearless DLC, with he, Penta and Jordynne Grace joined by Hall of Famer Bull Nakano, and YouTuber KSI in a Prime bottle costume. The Hardcore Icon gets special treatment too, when it comes to players using him in one-on-one, no disqualification-type matches such as Extreme Rules and Falls Count Anywhere. For those mode, New Jack will come out carrying a guitar and trash can full of weapons (including a crutch) which he'll spill in the ring ready to use when the bell rings. As if that wasn't enough, his entrance music will keep playing throughout the bout, which fans will remember well from his heyday. Heyman, 58, noted how including him in the roster for WWE 2K25 – which is the highest rated franchise title in Xbox history, with the same game now available on the Switch 2 – is a befitting way to honour his legacy. He said: 'Oh my God! What a fantastic idea to pay tribute to someone that has been such an influence on not only the culture of pro wrestling, but on the culture of video games, because of the influence that we've had on those who write the games.' In this year's WWE 2K25, Heyman takes centre stage in the Showcase mode, which Switch 2 gamers will be able to play as they explore the history of Roman Reigns and The Bloodline. More Trending 'I approached it with the respect for the history of the entire industry and for that family that anyone that understands or has studied the history should have. I approached it with great reverence,' he said of his role as a narrator in the mode. 'There are so many gamers now that are going to learn about an actual education within a video game. Imagine that! So if you want to go to a wrestling college, or you want to go to WWE University, your professor's name is Paul Heyman.' WWE 2K25 is available now for the Nintendo Switch 2. New Jack is available as part of the Fearless DLC pack. WWE SummerSlam airs on Netflix on August 2 and 3. Got a story? WWE legend Ric Flair, 76, shares major update on skin cancer battle after surgery

Ric Flair has revealed he is skin cancer free once again after successfully overcoming his second diagnosis in the space of three years. The WWE legend, 76, sparked fears last month when he announced that he was battling the disease for a second time, before pulling out of a scheduled meet-and-greet in Mississippi roughly a week later. At the end of June, he told fans that surgery was 'coming up' while asking them to keep him in his prayers and sharing a photo of his stomach - which appeared to have a number of sutures in from previous treatment. And roughly three weeks later Flair has confirmed that op was a success, meaning he has beaten skin cancer again. The 'Nature Boy' took to Instagram to share a photo of himself sporting bandages on his forehead and left arm in a medical facility and wrote: 'Thank You Academic Alliance In Dermatology! I'm Now Cancer Free! WOOOOO!' Fans flooded the comments with tributes to Flair, including one who wrote: 'Thank God!!!! Diamonds are forever, and so is Ric Flair'. The WWE legend sparked fears last month by announcing he was battling the disease again 'To many more healthy years, Naitch!! WOOOO,' said another. 'Let's gooooo!! Keep Going Naitch,' posted a third. While one simply commented: 'WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!' Flair is widely considered one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time with his daughter, Charlotte, following in his footsteps. He first declared that he would be retiring in 2008 after losing to Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 24 but has continuously returned to WWE in rare appearances. In the years since, Flair has tragically suffered with a number of significant health issues. In 2017, he was in a coma for 11 days and reportedly near death after his intestine ruptured. Flair had been hospitalized with stomach pains and just a few hours later suffered early stages of kidney failure. He also came close to congestive heart failure as a result of alcohol abuse. Despite his family being told he only had a 20 percent chance of surviving, Flair eventually recovered after being placed into a medically induced coma and having an obstructed piece of bowel surgically removed. The 'Nature Boy' is widely considered one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time In 2019, he was rushed to the emergency room after reportedly suffering a 'very serious' medical emergency. He later underwent successful heart surgery at the Atlanta hospital. Boasting 16 WWE world championship titles, Flair cemented himself as one of the greatest icons of the ring. He is also the only WWE superstar to have been inducted into the Hall of Fame twice. He rose to prominence in the 1980s and 1990s with the WCW and the WWF (now the WWE), and he ultimately headlined WrestleMania VIII in 1992. Flair continued to wrestle well into his 60s and recently made an appearance at 2019's WrestleMania 35.
