Melaka youths encouraged to venture into O&G's scaffolding sector
He said this aligns with projections that Malaysia's oil and gas industry will continue to grow at an annual rate of 1.4 per cent until 2030, with a targeted 25 per cent increase in workforce demand each year.
'It is a platform for transformation that provides opportunities for Melaka youths to be equipped with relevant, competent and recognised skills...ultimately contributing to the state's economic growth.
'We hope that the state government's initiative through the Melaka Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council with an allocation of RM120,000 will benefit the 30 selected youths, who are guaranteed job placement upon completing their training,' he said.
He spoke to reporters after today's launch of the Zero to Hero Programme for the Oil and Gas Scaffolding Job Placement at HRSB Holdings Sdn Bhd, Masjid Tanah, here.
State Investment, Industries and TVET Development Committee deputy chairman Khaidirah Abu Zahar and HRSB Holdings Sdn Bhd president Datuk Mohd Faizal Mohd Hassim were also present.
Meanwhile, Ab Rauf noted that the state government is ready to forge close cooperation with industry players to produce a workforce that meets the industry's needs, as part of its efforts to become a national TVET hub.
He stated that it is evident through the collaboration between the Melaka TVET Council and HRSB Holdings Sdn Bhd, via its subsidiary Blitz Training & Consultancy, which has played a key role in delivering quality technical training since 2014.
'As of 2025, a total of 14,000 workers in the scaffolding sector have been successfully trained,' he said.
Khaidirah said the two-week training, valued at RM4,00 per person, includes accommodation and meals, adding that this opportunity is open to youths regardless of gender.
'Its impact is significant in creating opportunities for these youths to secure employment or become self-employed, as the market in this field is vast and consistently available,' she added.

CPO Futures Close Lower As High Prices Weigh On Demand
By Engku Shariful Azni Engku Ab Latif KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- The crude palm oil (CPO) futures contract on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives ended its rally and closed lower on Tuesday, as the recent sharp price increase is likely to deter further demand, said palm oil trader David Ng. He said that as the spread between palm oil and soybean oil continues to deteriorate, it would make palm oil more expensive compared to soybean oil. 'Therefore, the lower soybean oil prices would weigh down the market sentiment. 'We see prices supported at RM4,500 and resistance at RM4,680,' Ng told Bernama. At the close, spot-month September 2025 slid RM27 to RM4,449 per tonne, October 2025 eased RM31 to RM4,429, and November 2025 declined RM38 to RM4,521. The December 2025 contract fell RM42 to RM4,530 per tonne, January 2026 reduced RM43 to RM4,527, and February 2026 shed RM44 to RM4,503. Volume surged to 95,632 lots from 70,059 lots on Monday, while open interest rose to 253,319 contracts from 249,400 previously. The physical CPO price for August South remained unchanged at RM4,470 per tonne.

MPOC Expects CPO Prices To Hold Above RM4,300 Per Tonne In Near Term
BUSINESS KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- Crude palm oil (CPO) prices are expected to hold above RM4,300 per tonne in the near term despite price fluctuations, according to the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC). In a statement today, MPOC said the tightening of soybean oil export availability, combined with the prospect of slower palm oil supply growth relative to biodiesel demand, should provide continued support. 'CPO has recently soared above RM4,500 per tonne and may remain volatile in the weeks ahead. However, the sustainability of palm oil's price strength will depend on its competitiveness against soybean oil in the export market,' it said. MPOC said the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) projects that 52 per cent of US soybean oil production will be used domestically for biodiesel in 2026, rising by 1.5 million tonnes (26.7 per cent) to 7.0 million tonnes. This surge in domestic use will sharply reduce export availability, with US soybean oil exports forecast to drop from 1.15 million tonnes in 2025 to just 310,000 tonnes in 2026. On palm oil imports, India's palm oil imports from Malaysia surged 16 per cent in July to 301,000 tonnes, the highest in nine months, even as Malaysia's palm oil inventories climbed to a 19-month high of 2.11 million tonnes on a slower pace of exports. 'Demand from India is expected to remain firm in September as importers stock up ahead of Diwali. Sub-Saharan Africa is also projected to maintain steady imports of about 300,000 tonnes, providing additional support for exports,' it said. Although Malaysian palm oil stocks have been rising since February, it said supply pressure remains limited, while Indonesia's biodiesel programme remains on track, consuming more than one million tonnes of palm oil monthly since February, preventing a stock build-up in the country. 'According to Oil World, global palm oil output is expected to rise by 1.6 million tonnes to reach 83.1 million tonnes in 2026, with the bulk of the increase coming from Indonesia.
