Steelers' Jalen Ramsey makes NFL Top-100 list ahead of training camp
On Wednesday, Steelers' three-time All-Pro CB Jalen Ramsey was ranked as the No. 66 player for the upcoming 2025 season — down 41 spots from his No. 21 ranking in 2024. Here is what NFL writer Christian Gonzalez had to say about Ramsey's selection:
"Locking up opposing No. 1 wide receivers isn't the only thing Ramsey does well," Gonzalez wrote. "He locks in his eighth consecutive appearance on the Top 100 list. Ramsey appeared in every game in 2024 after missing nearly half of the 2023 season and continued his dominant ways in Year 9. In the offseason, he and the Dolphins mutually agreed to explore other options. Now, Ramsey will be wearing a new uniform in 2025 after Miami traded him to the Steelers in June."
The Steelers acquired Ramsey, along with Pro Bowl TE Jonnu Smith, from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a late-round pick swap and star FS Minkah Fitzpatrick.
As the Steelers reported to training camp on Wednesday, HC Mike Tomlin couldn't help but praise Ramsey's versatility on defense — and it's expected he will play a part in replacing Fitzpatrick's presence at free safety.

A few Notre Dame women's basketball notes on Jayda Porter and Giovanna Burress
While Notre Dame's women's basketball might be going through a transitional season even with FIBA Gold medalist Hanna Hidalgo leading the charge, there is still plenty of draw to South Bend with recruits. The Irish are off to a great start in the 2026 class, and while they just have one commitment, it's a significant one. Georgia small forward Bella Ragone decided to commit to Notre Dame at the end of May, as she's the No. 23 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Niele Ivey is looking to add another top prospect to join Ragone in power forward Jayda Porter. The 6-foot, 3-inch Missouri native is just behind her in the rankings, as the No. 31 overall player in the cycle and this weekend decided to schedule her official visit to South Bend for Sep. 13th. Porter also announced visits to Oklahoma, Nebraska and Wisconsin. She's the brother of NBA player Michael Porter Jr., and daughter to Michael Sr. who is currently the head coach at Missouri. Looking further ahead, the Irish extended an offer to 2028 New Jersey guard Giovanna Burress on Saturday. The sister of wide receiver Elijah and daughter of Plaxico, could eventually join her brother on campus as Notre Dame has offered extremely early. Giovanna is looking like a national prospect, so this could be the start of a long relationship. While the Irish are early, they are not the only big schools to offer as Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan State and others have already done so. It very much looks like Ivey is taking a page out of Marcus Freeman's recruiting playbook, offering players that have elite athletic lineages. Hopefully this strategy works as well for the women's basketball team as it has for the football team. Lane Johnson is now the 7th highest-paid offensive tackle in the NFL, and Jordan Mailata is No. 8 after Rashawn Slater's 4-year, $114M Deal with the Chargers The #Chargers are finalizing a blockbuster extension with standout OT Rashawn Slater, per The Insiders, locking in one of their best young gets a 4-year, $114M deal to make him the highest-paid tackle in a deal done by Patrick Collins and Tommy Condon of CAA. Howie Roseman stays ahead of the curve, so that his star players won't feel left behind when their peers around the NFL sign new deals. Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson are All-Pros and two of the league's most dominant players. Still, Johnson is now the 7th highest-paid offensive tackle in the NFL, and Jordan Mailata is No. 8 after Rashawn Slater's 4-year, $114 million Deal with the Chargers. The $28.5 million per year makes Slater the highest-paid offensive lineman by average annual pay in a contract in NFL history. Slater has been extension-eligible since last offseason, but general manager Joe Hortiz and the Chargers chose to wait. In contrast, others at his position in his 2021 draft class signed lucrative extensions, including the Detroit Lions' Penei Sewell (4 years, $112 million, $85 million guaranteed) and Minnesota Vikings' Christian Darrisaw (4 years, $104 million, $67 million guaranteed). Left Tackles Right Tackles Since being selected by Los Angeles in the first round (13th overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft, Slater has started all 52 career appearances at left tackle, serving as the blind-side protector for quarterback Justin Herbert. In 2024, he started 16 games, including the postseason, helping keep Herbert upright for the offense to commit just eight turnovers, setting a franchise record and tying for the second-fewest offensive turnovers in a single season in NFL history. As a rookie in 2021, Slater started all 16 appearances at left tackle, earning second-team All-Pro status from The Associated Press. Slater was also named the starting left tackle for the AFC in the Pro Bowl, becoming the first rookie tackle to be named an all-star since 2012. Philadelphia got its stars under contract for the foreseeable future, and at a bargain. Mailata's 85.5 PFF overall grade in Week 17 led all offensive tackles, and he's the highest-graded offensive tackle in the NFL (95.8). Mailata leads the NFL in run blocking grade (94.9), and he's second in pass blocking (91.7), according to PFF. Last season, Johnson ranked 1st among NFL right tackles in PFF pass-blocking grade (88.1), pressure percentage (2.2%), and knockdown percentage (0.2%). He allowed zero sacks and one quarterback hit in 451 pass-blocking snaps.

Former Ohio State quarterback returns to Jets practice after injury scare
Earlier this week, former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields was carted off the field at Jets practice with an apparent foot injury. It was concerning, especially since the Jets have gone all-in on Fields as the starter this year. It was especially concerning for Fields because it might be his last chance to become a franchise quarterback in the NFL after some mixed results in Chicago and Pittsburgh. However, there is some good news on that front because Fields returned to practice just a day later on Friday. The official injury update is that it was just a dislocated toe -- which would be a big deal for you or me, but not so much for the prognosis of Fields continuing to get reps and eventually being in a position to start on opening day. Fields did not participate 100% in practice on Friday, but did throw some balls on the side, and is simply day-to-day on his return in the capacity needed. There are a lot of people rooting for Fields to be a difference-maker for the Jets, including many Ohio State fans. The talent is there; it's just always seemed like the right fit for Fields to show what he can do. Many Jets fans are also bullish on what the former Heisman finalist can do in the Big Apple, so the fact that the injury isn't serious is a very good thing for all rooting interests.
