ORLANDO, Fla. - Thursday has been declared a FOX 35 Weather Impact Day due to numerous storms along and east of Interstate 4 this afternoon and night.
Here's what you need to know.
What to expect
Another hot, humid, and stormy day is on the way for Central Florida. Afternoon highs will be back into the upper 80s and low 90s. This will help to fuel this afternoon's rain and storm chances.
During the peak heating of the day, sea breeze boundaries will help to trigger scattered showers and storms. Some storms may be strong, producing gusty winds, small hail, and heavy downpours.
Timeline
Isolated downpours will begin to bubble up around 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., with the best chances of wet and stormy weather taking place from roughly 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Storm activity will gradually fade after sunset, leaving us under partly cloudy skies overnight. Temperatures will remain warm and muggy, with lows around the low 70s.
Looking ahead
Friday's weather pattern features more of the same, with more afternoon thunderstorms likely as daytime heating interacts with lingering moisture. Highs will reach the upper 80s under a mix of sun and clouds.
Rain chances decrease slightly for Saturday and Sunday, appearing more scattered. This would mean better news for any Mother's Day plans with the moms out there! Plan for highs in the mid to upper 80s humidity continues.

Saving your garden after late May shivers
Like many local gardeners who optimistically planted delicate seedlings right after Mother's Day, I'm facing a garden of tomato, basil and pepper plants damaged by the late May cold. Why it matters: Today I'm wondering if my anemic plants will spring back with a little TLC or if it's time to start over at the garden store. The answer: That depends. State of play: Our late-May temps normally average in the mid-70s but this year O'Hare only reached 70 twice after May 17, per WGN. What they're saying:"The cold basically stalls the growth of your tomato plants where they won't die but they won't grow either," Chicago's Tomato Man Bob Zeni, who's known for growing and donating plants, tells Axios. "Their sweet spot is between 65 and 85 and we were well below that in May." The bad news:"If the stem of your tomato plant is soft, droopy and kind of squishy, that's a goner," Zeni explains. Yes, but, he adds that "most tomato plants are resilient" and those with strong stems should thrive as temps rise. After diagnosing mine (from photos), he predicted they'd be OK after I trim lower leaves, give them room and add mulch. Still, Zeni said, I can expect some stunted development from the cold stretch. Beyond tomatoes: U of I extension horticultural educator Nancy Kreith suggests inspecting your "tender crops" like basil, peppers and cucumbers for damage this week. "Something like potatoes could regenerate new growth underneath," she says, "But if your basil has gone black and wilted or even white, it's probably too far gone." The advice: Remove any severely wilted plants and, if you can swing it, buy more seedlings and re-plant. But for things like basil, squash, cucumbers, watermelon, Kreith says, it's not too late to start growing from seeds this year. What's next: As you plan for spring 2026, Kreith advises "always checking the 10-day forecast before planting to see if there are any nights in the 40s coming because that's too cold for tender crops."

The Brief Wednesday is a FOX 35 Weather Impact Day due to tropical moisture bringing widespread rain and storms. Some storms could produce wind gusts over 45 mph, though severe storms are not expected. On Thursday, showers remain likely in the afternoon, but incoming Saharan dust will reduce rain chances and air quality. ORLANDO, Fla. - Wednesday is a FOX 35 Weather Impact Day due to tropical moisture moving across Central Florida, resulting in numerous showers, downpours and storms this afternoon. There is a 70-80% chance for rain, with rain totals possibly exceeding 1 to 3 inches in many areas due to really heavy downpours. While severe storms are not likely, some storms may bring wind gusts over 45 mph. What to expect Generally overcast and muggy. Scattered showers and thunder begin around lunchtime and continue through the evening, on and off. A quick 1"–2" is possible inside of an hour, leading to minor street flooding in urban areas. The high will be 83°, which is 7° cooler than normal due to clouds and rain. Timeline The heaviest rain is expected to begin around the following times: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Southern areas, including Lakeland and the Tampa area 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. – Central Florida, including Orlando, Kissimmee, Cocoa Beach, Melbourne, Titusville, and Ocala 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. – Northern areas, including Daytona Beach, Palm Coast, and Gainesville Numerous chances of rain will come to an end around 9 p.m. with just a few sprinkles overnight. That cooler air becomes heavier and sinks fast, creating a strong downdraft. When that rushing air hits the ground, it spreads out as powerful, gusty winds — sometimes called downbursts or microbursts.
