Fiona Phillips has claimed that her experience on Strictly Come Dancing didn't live up to what it appears to be like on camera. Strictly is known for its sparkle and excitement, as professional dancers teach celebrities Ballroom and Latin routines.
Reflecting on her time on the show, the 64-year-old said there were often moments where she'd be "on the brink of tears" during what she has described as an "incredibly traumatic" time.
In the former GMTV presenter's new book Remember When: My Life With Alzheimer's, serialised by the Daily Mail, she delves into her career and personal struggles.
Recounting her time on Strictly 20 years on from taking part, she shared: "He [Brendan Cole] could also be seen looking at my dancing and saying, 'Pathetic, it's not good enough!' Then I'm begging him to 'stop shouting' and worrying that I look completely ridiculous," reports the Mirror.
"There's a clip where I say to the cameraman that Brendan is looking at me like he's stepped in something. I really don't remember much of that time now – maybe I blocked it out because all I recall is the sense that it was incredibly traumatic."
Fiona went on to say that at the time she had also questioned her participation, given that she had just placed her mother in a care home, and was "exhausted" from it all.
"Fortunately (although I don't think Brendan saw it that way), we were voted out in week four. It was all over on Bonfire Night. What a relief," she continued.
In 2018, Brendan didn't have his contract for the series renewed and emotionally discussed the decision on ITV's Lorraine.
Following this announcement, Fiona claimed it was "karma" and took a swipe at Brendan.
She told the Daily Star: "Brendan was a real b****r, actually. He wasn't very nice. He was really naughty.
"He's not on the show now. Karma indeed. It works its way every time."
A representative for Brendan has been contacted.
Fiona's book is mostly focused on her battle with Alzheimer's, which she was diagnosed with in 2022.
In a bid to stay positive, she has continued with her career, with the support of her husband Martin Frizell, and keeps active with strolls in the park and enjoying coffee outings with friends.
Speaking to The Mirror in 2023, she revealed: "I'm living with it by not letting it ruin things. I am just carrying on as much as I can. It's when I talk about it that I can't quite believe I'm talking about myself - I'm used to talking about it in relation to my mum and my dad having it.
"My whole family have been slaughtered by it. I'm not sure if the drugs are working or not... I don't think anyone would know there is anything wrong with me.. but who knows? Would they?".

Mystery man who bought Katie Price's Mucky Mansion for £1.1m revealed after star claims house is ‘cursed'

James Mercer, a leading furniture tycoon and divorced father-of-two, snapped up the run-down West Sussex home back in January after Katie was booted out as part of her bankruptcy. He admitted to the Daily Mail that the home's previous owner had left it "mucky" and in need of work. It is believed that James purchased the home as part of a fresh start with his partner, Leike Qu, who is a co-owner of the house. James has been with Leike since splitting from his wife and the mother of his kids who has remained in Northern Ireland following their break-up. Speaking for the first time about owning one of Britain's most famous houses, Leike told the Mail: "We are just very ordinary and quiet people who fell in love with this country house." The couple are believed to have set aside a substantial amount of money in order to renovate the property with work already underway on turning it into a dream residence once more. Construction work is ongoing with scaffolding surrounding the mansion. Katie made a loss on the home with James paying around £200,000 less than Katie originally paid for the home. This is due to the star failing to find a buyer at the advertised price due to its conditions. Katie Price's BGT star rival reignites bitter feud as she shares video mocking under-fire star's new surgeries The former glamour model had also previously bragged in interviews that the West Sussex mansion was worth a cool £2million. Katie will not see a penny of the proceeds if this sale if it does complete, as she no longer owns it. The mum-of-five was forced out of the dilapidated house in May after failing to meet payments on two mortgages. Katie was served an eviction notice following her second bankruptcy. As a result, any money made against the house will be swallowed up by the debts she ran up against it while living there. In 2022, the star's attempts to renovate the home featured in Channel 4's Katie Price: Mucky Mansion. The show was eventually axed after two series', shortly before Katie was ordered to move out of the house via an eviction order. After the bank took possession, the Mucky Mansion - which sits in 12 acres of land - was put up for sale with a price tag of £1.5million. However, the asking price was later slashed in a bid to get it sold. The price was cut for a second time in October. The swimming pool was left empty with many of the home's rooms in desperate need of renovation. Katie also faced personal tragedy at the house with a multitude of her animals dying whilst living there. Both her horse and her German Shepherd were killed at the home as well as a dog she bought for Princess. 5 The house we left to ruin under Katie's ownership Credit: Splash

George Clarke breaks silence on new girlfriend as he signs up for Strictly Come Dancing

George Clarke openly admitted to being in a relationship for the first time in his showbiz career just hours before the YouTuber was revealed to be part of this year's Strictly line up George Clarke has revealed the reason why he confirmed his romance with lingerie model Yasmin Amelia just hours before he was announced as part of this year's Strictly Come Dancing line-up. ‌ The 25-year-old YouTuber, who built a loyal following online with his sharp sense of humour, previously kept fans guessing when it came to his relationship status. ‌ Until now, Clarke has often joked about dating mishaps and dodged questions about his love life. But ahead of his glittering BBC ballroom debut, he decided to go public with a girlfriend for the first time. ‌ He explained his reasoning on the Useless Hotline Podcast, saying he wanted to take control of the story before speculation started. He shared: "That's part of the reason why we wanted to say something. Because the two options were, say something. You have full control over how it comes out. "Whatever you say is basically how people find out, or it stays private. [It] just sort of takes all the control out of your hands. But then, I [will] just go on stream after that and be like, that's not true, by the way. But, yeah, she's my girlfriend." Fans first spotted hints of his relationship during a livestream, and quickly figured out that his partner was Yasmin Amelia, also known as Yasmin Bennett, a model signed to J'adore Models with over 30,000 Instagram followers. Clarke himself boasts more than 686,000 followers and previously appeared on the Netflix reality show Inside. While many of his fans celebrated the news of his new romance, others were taken aback. One Reddit user wrote: "Caught me off guard because he is a very private person especially about his dating/love life. Even on the pod he has expressed his desire to keep things private and off socials." However, another wrote: "I heard about this on his stream, and I'm genuinely happy for him!" ‌ Clarke has also addressed speculation about the so-called Strictly Curse, which what fans call the phenomenon of many stars who join the show leaving their partners for someone they've met during the competition. He quickly dismissed the idea that his relationship could be at risk because of his upcoming time on Strictly, and insisted that he went public about his girlfriend because he wanted to be honest with his fans, rather than as a form of damage control. Clarke also accidentally dropped another interesting piece of information on the podcast, hinting at who he might be partnered with on the show. He revealed that he had already met professional dancer Lauren Oakley in rehearsals, saying: "I've not met anyone apart from, I believe her name's Lauren, who was the pro that I met. Because when we had an interview for it, so it's like an hour long interview, and then like an hour long dance session." Oakley, who joined the Strictly pro team in 2022, has previously competed with journalist Krishnan Guru-Murthy and singer JB Gill. If Clarke's slip-up means what it seems to imply, she might be guiding the YouTube star through his first ballroom steps.

Love Is Blind UK Katisha's shock note and what it said as star storms off show

Love Is Blind UK's next batch of episodes have dropped showing the five new couples navigating their lives together *Warning: Contains spoilers for Love Is Blind UK Season 2* ‌ A Love Is Blind UK contestant has dramatically quit the programme after leaving a shocking message for her fiancé in a surprising turn of events. ‌ Love Is Blind UK season 2 witnessed the latest batch of episodes drop today (August 20) as the five fresh couples work through their new relationships together. Following extensive dating in the pods, the selected pairs chose to advance their romance to the next level and get engaged whilst planning their nuptials. ‌ However, pressure mounts for the couples as they encounter obstacles in their partnerships, reports the Mirror. This week, one participant has dramatically left the programme, leaving a single message for their other half. Devastating moments showed Scottish native Katisha and Javen battling with their communication, which followed Katisha's last minute choice to pick Javen, despite confessing a deeper bond with Demola in the pods. Yet Katisha broke down in tears on the programme following Javen's surprising choice this week. Previous moments featured a get-together with the couples and fellow cast members, before Javen seemed to be getting friendlier with singletons Sophie, Yolanda and Aanu. Javen chose to head back out with the group and left Katisha on her own at their accommodation. Subsequent scenes showed Megan confessing to Katisha that Javen had actually spent the majority of the night with the other three women, which left Katisha far from pleased. Megan revealed to Katisha: "I'm not going to lie, he went straight to Sophie. "He was chatting to Sophie a lot and then I watched them get into a photo booth..... I didn't see any photo." ‌ She continued: "It was the weirdest thing, he just kept laughing. He was just being like yeah, nothing, nothing. After that he moved on started talking to Yolanda, eventually started talking to Aanu." However, when Katisha confronted Javen, a row quickly erupted as she declared she was "going home." ‌ Left disappointed by his behaviour, Katisha was later overheard saying: "I have no desire to speak to Javen again, I've been in relationships like this before and I've trusted them and I've taken them back again and again and again. I didn't come here to make the same mistakes." Before departing the programme, Katisha penned a farewell note to Javen, placing it beside her engagement ring on the table for him to discover upon his return. The note read: "I truly wanted this to work, we are obviously more than our mistakes but I can't marry potential. I'm sorry, all the best Katisha." Upon discovering the message, Javen confronted Megan, demanding to know what had been said to Katisha before branding it "lies" as a heated row erupted. What lies ahead for Love Is Blind UK? Viewers must wait until August 27 when the concluding two episodes air.
