Jaipur:
At first glance,
Vaibhav Suryavanshi
seems like just another teenager, brimming with carefree energy. His teammates can't resist tugging at his cheeks. After the 38-ball 101 on Monday night, however, they will no doubt take him more seriously.
'It feels really good. It was my first century in the
IPL
, in my third innings. It's like a dream. What I've been practicing for the last three-four months, the result is showing. I don't see the ground so much, just focus on the ball. I have no fear. I'm not thinking about all that, I'm just focusing on playing,' the left-handed batter said after the game.

Now that the spotlight is on him, fans want to know what the 14-year-old is like when he steps off the grass. Royals
batting coach Vikram Rathour
said, 'He is exactly the same. I don't think he's intimidated by anybody. He's one guy who takes on Jofra (Archer) in the nets. He's a special talent. He's got a great downswing. So that helps him, I think, generate this kind of power. And today he showed everybody how good he is.'

A Father's Pride: How RR, Dravid & Vikram Shaped Vaibhav Suryavanshi
'We knew we'd found something special'
Dominating one of the best IPL bowling attacks is no mean feat, which likely explains why Rathour struggled to avoid calling Vaibhav 'special' in every sentence.
Who's that IPL player?
'For a 14-year-old kid to play like this definitely makes him special. We saw him for the first time maybe four months back when looking for the trials, and from we knew we had found something special. It was up to us to nurture him and bring him to this level,' Rathour said about the '
Boss Baby
', a name Michael Clark came up with when Vaibhav smoked a six off the first ball he faced in the IPL. 'He has a solid head on his shoulders. He showed great temperament. He was extraordinary,' Rathour said.

Hayden names young hitter as

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 9 (ANI): Former Australian batter Matthew Hayden named young South African star Tristan Stubbs as an 'X-Factor' for Proteas in their ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia. The young generation of South African cricketers, Tristan Stubbs, Ryan Rickelton, Marco Jansen, etc, would have to be a great support system to the veterans as the country aims to secure their first-ever world title in cricket as they take on Australia during the WTC final at Lord's from June 11 onwards. Hayden, speaking to Star Sports, named Stubbs an 'X-Factor,' comparing his style to England great Kevin Pietersen, who also happens to be Stubbs' mentor as part of the Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Hayden said, 'Someone like Tristan Stubbs, I think, can be a bit of an X-factor. Similar to the way that Kevin Peterson was in the England side against Australia, who can come out, start dominate.' 'We have seen his hitting ability through the IPLs. Not that that has a great deal of relevance, but he is a very powerful unit. A very conventional hitter of the ball. Tall, big body position and great hands that he can hit down the ground. So he can be a threat,' he added. Stubbs made his Test debut for the Proteas during the ongoing 2023-25 WTC cycle, scoring 500 runs in nine Tests and 16 innings at an average of 33.33, with two centuries and a fifty. His best score is 122. He scored his centuries against Bangladesh (away from home) and Sri Lanka (at home). The 24-year-old, who also bowls useful part-time spin and can also take up wicketkeeping gloves if needed, is coming after a solid IPL season for DC, where he exhibited his ability to bat under a variety of positions in the middle-order. In 14 matches, he scored 300 runs in 13 innings at an average of 50.00 and a strike rate of 150.75. His best score was 41*. Stubbs also has a strong first-class cricket record, having made 1,701 runs in 26 matches and 41 innings at an average of 45.97 and a strike rate of almost 60, with seven centuries and two fifties. His best score is 302*. South Africa and Australia announced their squads for the World Test Championship Final on Monday, 13 May. South Africa squad for WTC final: Tony de Zorzi, Ryan Rickelton, Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma (c), David Bedingham, Tristan Stubbs, Kyle Verreynne, Wiaan Mulder, Marco Jansen, Corbin Bosch, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Dane Paterson, Keshav Maharaj, Senuran Muthusamy. Priyansh, Prabhsimran, Suryavanshi will be in contention for World Cup spot: Robin Uthappa

New Delhi [India], June 9 (ANI): Former top-order batter Robin Uthappa believes three uncapped explosive stars Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh and Vaibhav Suryavanshi will 'definitely' be in contention for a spot in India's T20 World Cup title defence at home next year. Different franchises unearthed new talents in the recently concluded 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). While some were identified as ones for the future, some knocked on the door for an immediate spot in India's T20I fold. Punjab Kings' opening pair Priyansh and Prabhsimran dazzled with their aggressive intent throughout the tournament. Apart from the young duo, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who opened for Rajasthan Royals (RR), grabbed the headlines with his record-shattering blitzkrieg blended with caution and aggression. With the rise of the young trio, India will face a massive challenge in figuring out the best top order for next year's marquee event. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal have spent a year away from the format. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson have formed a new opening pair in their absence. For Uthappa, India should invest its time in the remaining T20Is to identify the best possible squad for its title defence and fully fit players to boost their hopes in the tournament. 'Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, all of them will definitely be in contention for a World Cup spot. It's about using the remaining T20s before the tournament to figure out the best 15-man squad. You already have Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Yashasvi Jaiswal, all Test players who can also thrive in T20s,' Uthappa said at the launch of the Australian Summer of Cricket 2025-26. 'Then there's Sanju Samson. So it's going to be a challenge figuring out who makes the cut. Fitness will play a key role -- you want a fully fit squad going into a World Cup, and I'm sure that's something the selectors and management will be closely monitoring,' he added. During his impressive run, Prabhsimran racked up 549 runs in 17 matches at 32.29 while striking over 160 with four fifties and a best score of 91. The 24-year-old finished as the eighth-highest run-getter in the tournament. His opening partner, who earned a reputation for his exploits in the Delhi Premier League, finished the season with 475 runs in 17 innings at 27.94 while maintaining a strike rate of 179.24, including a solitary century and two fifties. Suryavanshi, who came in towards the latter half of the tournament, garnered 252 runs in seven matches at 36.00, with a rollicking strike rate of above 206. (ANI)
