Jaipur:
At first glance,
Vaibhav Suryavanshi
seems like just another teenager, brimming with carefree energy. His teammates can't resist tugging at his cheeks. After the 38-ball 101 on Monday night, however, they will no doubt take him more seriously.
'It feels really good. It was my first century in the
IPL
, in my third innings. It's like a dream. What I've been practicing for the last three-four months, the result is showing. I don't see the ground so much, just focus on the ball. I have no fear. I'm not thinking about all that, I'm just focusing on playing,' the left-handed batter said after the game.

Now that the spotlight is on him, fans want to know what the 14-year-old is like when he steps off the grass. Royals
batting coach Vikram Rathour
said, 'He is exactly the same. I don't think he's intimidated by anybody. He's one guy who takes on Jofra (Archer) in the nets. He's a special talent. He's got a great downswing. So that helps him, I think, generate this kind of power. And today he showed everybody how good he is.'

'We knew we'd found something special'
Dominating one of the best IPL bowling attacks is no mean feat, which likely explains why Rathour struggled to avoid calling Vaibhav 'special' in every sentence.
Who's that IPL player?
'For a 14-year-old kid to play like this definitely makes him special. We saw him for the first time maybe four months back when looking for the trials, and from we knew we had found something special. It was up to us to nurture him and bring him to this level,' Rathour said about the '
Boss Baby
', a name Michael Clark came up with when Vaibhav smoked a six off the first ball he faced in the IPL. 'He has a solid head on his shoulders. He showed great temperament. He was extraordinary,' Rathour said.

Shreyas Iyer's Father Breaks Silence On Asia Cup Snub: " Mera Naseeb..."

Indian cricket team batter Shreyas Iyer 's father - Santosh Iyer - expressed disappointment at his son not getting selected for the Asia Cup 2025. Shreyas had a good outing in domestic cricket and was also quite impressive for Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. However, he was not included in the squad and was even snubbed from the reserves list. Santosh was not happy with what happened and questioned the reasoning behind the decision to not include him in the squad. He pointed out that Shreyas performed well in the IPL and even took Punjab Kings to the final but it was not enough. "I don't know what else Shreyas has to do to make it to the Indian T20 team. He has been performing so well in the IPL year after year, from Delhi Capitals to Kolkata Knight Riders to Punjab Kings, and that too as a captain. He even captained KKR to the IPL title in 2024 and led PBKS to the final this year," Santosh told Times of India. "I am not saying make him the Indian captain, but at least select him in the team. Even if he's left out, he never shows dissent. He'll simply say, 'Mera naseeb hai' (It's my luck; you can't do anything now). He is always cool and calm." "He doesn't blame anybody, but deep inside he must be naturally disappointed," he added. Meanwhile, former cricketer Mohammad Kaif believes that the Indian selectors and management didn't do justice to in-form Shreyas Iyer by axing him from the 15-player squad for next month's Asia Cup. Shreyas' omission from the squad after a bumper Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season with Punjab Kings (PBKS) as captain has sparked criticism from fans and former cricketers. India's chief selector Ajit Agarkar explained Shreyas' absence during the squad announcement and told reporters, "With regards to Shreyas, it's not his fault, nor is it ours. It's just that you can pick 15, and at the moment you'll have to wait for his chance." The majority have voiced in favour of the 30-year-old, citing several reasons for his inclusion in the highly anticipated tournament. Kaif has now joined the ranks and admitted that he has struggled to understand Shreyas' absence. "Shreyas Iyer's name didn't come up; the selectors said that it was a difficult task to fit him since only 15 could be selected. I can understand all that. I approve of you in this. But even after praising him, his name wasn't even in the standbys," Kaif said on his YouTube channel.

'If Shreyas Iyer Was Pakistani Then...': Ex-Batter Makes Bold Statement

Last Updated: Iyer last played a T20I match for India on December 3, 2023, in Bengaluru and scored 53 runs from 37 balls in that fixture. Middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer made a strong case for selection in India's T20I squad for the 2025 Asia Cup by scoring 604 runs in 17 matches of IPL 2025 for Punjab Kings with a strike rate of 175.07, but despite that, the 30-year-old Mumbai cricketer was ignored by the Ajit Agarkar-led senior India men's selection committee on Tuesday (August 19) for a place in India's 15-member squad. Iyer's snub from the Asia Cup squad, along with the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, surprised fans as well as India greats like Ravichandran Ashwin and Abhishek Nayar. Iyer's exclusion from the Suryakumar Yadav-led side has also surprised former Pakistani batter Basit Ali. According to him, Iyer should have been in the Indian team. While speaking with former Pakistani wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal on a YouTube show 'Game Time', Basit said, 'Shreyas Iyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami agar Pakistan mein hote na, ye log A category mey hote (These would have been in Pakistan's A category)." ' Iyer ke saath jyadati ho gayi hai. Unko team mey hona chahiye (It was unfortunate that Shreyas Iyer has not been picked)," he added. Iyer last played a T20I match for India on December 3, 2023, against Australia in Bengaluru, and in that contest, he scored 53 runs from 37 balls as a No. 3 batter. In the 15-member Indian team picked for the premier continental event set to be played from September 9 to 28 in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Shubman Gill returns as vice-captain. The 25-year-old right-handed batter from Punjab, who is the captain of the Indian men's Test cricket team, last played a 20-over match for India on July 30, 2024, against Sri Lanka in Pallekele. He was preferred over Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jaiswal, who has 723 runs to his name in 23 T20Is played so far, has scored more runs, sixes, and fours than Gill and even has a better batting average and strike rate than him. In the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League, Jaiswal played all 14 league matches for Rajasthan Royals and scored 559 runs with a strike rate of 159.71. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. BCCI To Take Big Call On Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma's ODI Future After Asia Cup: Sources

India stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will have discussions with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over their international futures. Having already retired from Tests and T20I cricket, it is not known whether the two former will continue in ODIs beyond the upcoming white-ball tour of Australia. According to sources, Kohli and Rohit will sit down with the BCCI official to discuss plans over their future, with the board likely to leave the final decision up to the two batting greats. The discussions are likely to take place once the Asia Cup is a thing of the past. It has been learnt that Shreyas Iyer could be appointed as the ODI captain during the same meeting, with BCCI keen on relieving Rohit off captaincy pressure. The latest development comes after Iyer was ignored by the selectors for the upcoming Asia Cup, which will also see the return of Shubman Gill as vice-captain of the T20I team. Should Kohli manage to extend his career for a few more years, he is still in with a slim shot of catching Sachin Tendulkar 's tally for the most runs by a batter in ODI cricket. Kohli, who recently crossed 14,000 runs, is just over 4,000 runs short of Tendulkar's record. However, Kohli boasts a significantly better average than Tendulkar. Kohli's latest action came in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, where he ended 18 years of wait for a title as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won the tournament. Rohit, on the other hand, was present at The Oval to witness the fifth and final Test against England, which India won by six runs to level the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2-2. In 273 ODIs, Rohit has scored 11,168 runs at an average of 48.76, including 32 centuries and 58 fifties. He also holds the unique record of scoring three double centuries in the format.
