2 mins Lyon 0 - 0 Arsenal
Arsenal start brightly and win a corner. It's sent in deeply towards Leah Williamson, who can't quite bring the ball under control and Lyon can clear. The hosts counter and Diani works a nice pocket of space down the wing and whips in an inviting cross for Chawinga, but the Gunners deal with it.

The teams have emerged..
..and have lined up for the women's Champions League anthem. Is it an anthem? Think so. Arsenal have their game faces on.

In case you missed it..
Earlier today, Chelsea were convincingly beaten 4-1 at Stamford Bridge by Barcelona - surrendering to an 8-2 defeat on aggregrate - as their dreams of becoming the first English team to win European honours since Arsenal in 2007 were well and truly crushed. A lot of food for Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor, Emma Hayes' successor, who was ultimately recruited by the club to win the competition.

A full circle manager moment
Joe Montemurro, the Lyon manager who was at the helm of Arsenal for five years from 2017-2021, mentored Renee Slegers on a UEFA coaching programme.
I actively asked for him as my mentor because I heard a lot of good things about his leadership, his football philosophy and how he is as a person,' said Slegers, speaking earlier this week.
It was great working with him. I learnt a lot of things. I was visiting him here at Arsenal when he was working here.
I know Joe and he knows me and he knows the club and the players as well. Of course, a lot of things have changed since he left. It's going to be a great encounter and I look forward to seeing him tomorrow.'

Can Arsenal draw on recent history?
Lyon are a side who don't lose many games, but they came unstuck against the Gunners in 2022 in their own back yard when they were outclassed by the London club in the group stages under former manager Jonas Eidevall, in one of their greatest ever European performances. Caitlin Foord, Frida Maanum and Beth Mead, who all started for Slegers last week Saturday, were on the score sheet. Against Lyon at the Emirates last Saturday, they put 25 crosses into the penalty area but failed to make use of them. Today they'll have to deal with the added aerial threat of Renard, too, so the job doesn't get any easier.

Can Arsenal stage a comeback?
Lyon, a powerhouse of women's European football, have only been knocked out of the competition twice in 15 years after winning the first leg in the knockout stage - so the probability gods are firmly against Arsenal. Although, on those occasions, it was to the old away goals rule, which no longer applies. A reminder that Arsenal haven't reached the Champions League final since the year the club won the competition in 2007, when it was known as the Uefa Cup. Karen Carney, who is in the TNT Sports studio on punditry duties for today's match, was part of that Gunners side.

Arsenal fans make feelings clear on Viktor Gyokeres after £64m star's difficult debut
Viktor Gyokeres failed to make an instant Prmier League impact against a Manchester United side who were linked with him before he chose to join Arsenal in a £64m deal Arsenal kicked off their season with a victory over Manchester United but it wasn't the easiest of Premier League debuts for Viktor Gyokeres. The Swedish strikr scored goals for fun in the Championship and Primeira Liga, prompting a £64m move to Arsenal, but drew a blank on his first league outing for the Gunners. United were also linked with the Scandinavian, who played under Ruben Amorim in Portugal. He ended up in North London, though, with the Red Devils turning their attention to August arrival Benjamin Sesko. "What has [Mikel] Arteta done with Gyokeres," asked one fan after the new striker failed to register a shot during his hour on the pitch at Old Trafford. "There's a reason [ Brighton owner] Tony Bloom let Gyokeres leave for just over £1m," said another. "I don't wanna be too reactionary, but Gyokeres looked so out of his depth," said a third. "Arsenal do not play to his strengths whatsoever." Sasko also struggled to make an impact after arriving from the bench, and some drew less-than-favourable comparisons with reigining league champions Liverpool. "[Hugo] Ekitike looks like prime R9 compared to Sesko and Gyokeres," was one take. After wins for Liverpool on Friday and Manchester City on Saturday, there was pressure on last season's runnest-up Arsenal. They took an early lead in unusual circumstances, with goalkeeper David Raya ensuring they stayed in front. Riccardo Calafiori scored the only goal of the game, netting from point-blank range after a mistake from United keeper Altay Bayindir. Ultimately, the Gunners didn't need a second, and they host newly promoted Leeds before facing Liverpool the week after that. "Arsenal really dug in. They showed a lot of resilience," former United captain Gary Neville said during Sky Sports ' coverage. "We know how good they are defensively. The goalkeeper made some really good saves and the back four got better as the game went on. "Arsenal were never at their best but to come to Manchester, whether it is Old Trafford or Man City's ground, it's always tough. To get three points is big for Mikel Arteta." "We weren't on our best day with the ball. Defensively we weren't at our best, so that was a hard fight," Arsenal keeper David Raya admitted. "We got our goal in the first half with a corner and from there we just fought until the end. "Credit to the boys for getting the clean sheet. We know we could have lost the game but football is like this. Days like this is when the three points count. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Ruben Amorim sets unwanted 16-year record as Man Utd bitten by biggest problem
Manchester United kicked off their Premier League season with a disappointing home defeat against Arsenal, Riccardo Calafiori's early goal handing Mikel Arteta's victory at Old Trafford The more things change, the more they stay the same. Manchester United suffered defeat in their opening Premier League match of the season, falling to a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford - a goal from a set piece proving the difference between the two sides. That the Gunners' winner should have come about that way shouldn't have been a surprise. Ruben Amorim may have splashed £200million on a new attack this summer, but conceding from corners has troubled United more than any other side in the past two seasons; no one has conceded more from corners than their 23 goals in the Premier League since the start of 2023-24. Conversely, over that same period, Arsenal have scored 31 times. That's 11 more than the next best: Liverpool on 20. For all that fingers will be pointed at stand-in 'keeper Altay Bayindir for his role in Riccardo Calafiori's winner - and fingers will indeed be pointed at the Turkey international because it was weak, dismal goalkeeping under the tiniest amount of pressure from William Saliba - the goal was just the continuation of a very familiar theme for United. Amorim promised a new era when he spoke to the crowd at the end of last season, but he needs to stamp out such overfamiliar problems. They will continue to cost his side until he does. And such stupid goals will continue to be conceded so long as his players aren't willing to point fingers at one another and call out mistakes. "When you touch the goalkeeper and he can't jump, that makes it difficult for Bayindir," said captain Bruno Fernandes. "And unfortunately he couldn't keep it out of the goal." READ MORE: Man Utd howler gifts Arsenal three points in Premier League opener - 5 talking points United looked far better than the side that finished 15th last season – their worst top-flight campaign since 1974. But still they were beaten. This was far from a vintage performance from Arsenal. They were some way below their best. But they walk away with three points and an opening day success away from home. Indeed, Arsenal allowed 22 shots on their goal. The last time United managed that many against the Gunners in the Premier League, they managed 25 and scored EIGHT in an infamous 8-2 thrashing 14 years ago. This time, David Raya only made one real save of note, a brilliant low fingertip save to deny £62.5m Matheus Cunha. For Amorim, it was his 15th defeat in 28 Premier League games. Remarkably, it is the fastest a manager has reached 15 defeats in the top flight - provided he hasn't taken over a newly promoted team - since Paul Hart hit 15 losses in 27 games as Portsmouth boss in 2009, 16 years ago. More will almost certainly follow unless he improves his side's defending at set pieces. He can focus on having his side play 'his way' as much as he likes. But they need to start doing the rest right too.

Man Utd lose thrilling league opener to Arsenal after Altay Bayindir blunder
Altay Bayindir's blunder handed Arsenal victory and undid a positive Manchester United performance in Sunday's pulsating Premier League encounter. Old Trafford rocked as Mikel Arteta's runners-up headed to the rebuilding Red Devils in the most eye-catching fixture of the opening weekend. United looked far better than the side that finished 15th last season – their worst top-flight campaign since 1974 – yet Ruben Amorim's side fell to a 1-0 defeat as Riccardo Calafiori capitalised on Bayindir's early flap. The back-up goalkeeper was outmuscled by William Saliba as he attempted to deal with a Declan Rice corner, tipping it on for the defender to nod into an empty net and silence Old Trafford after a bright start. Bayindir's error underlined concerns over the goalkeeping position at Old Trafford, where often unconvincing number one Andre Onana was absent as he works his way back from a hamstring injury. United are a work in progress but summer signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo looked sharp on their debuts, with Patrick Dorgu hitting a post with a lasered first-half effort. Arsenal keeper David Raya produced a string of important stops to keep the hosts at bay, with his man of the match of the display helping Arteta's side to victory. The atmosphere was as intense as United's start as they flew out the blocks in the summer sun, with Mbeumo getting an early attempt on goal as the hosts bossed play and the early possession. But Arsenal would take the sting out of proceedings with just 13 minutes on the clock. Bayindir flapped at Rice's inswinging corner under pressure from Saliba, with the Turkey international meekly palming on for Calafiori to head over the line. United's appeals for a foul fell on deaf ears as Arsenal scored their 31st Premier League goal from a corner since the start of the 2023-24 campaign – 11 more than any other team. That moment seemed to lead to some of the nervousness within the ground that Amorim referenced ahead of the game, but his side's refreshed approach and personnel helped lift the mood. Mbeumo saw a shot deflect wide before Dorgu followed a burst down the left with a fierce shot that hit the outside of the far post. Cunha looked like United's biggest threat and showed tenacity and confidence in the 32nd minute when his rampaging run from his own half led him to burst through Arsenal bodies and get a shot on Raya's goal. The goalkeeper comfortably dealt with that attempt and another from distance, but he had to be at his best to get a fingertip on the Brazil international's low drive from an acute angle as half-time approached. Arsenal were solid but unspectacular when the second half got under way, with Arteta replacing ineffective debutant Viktor Gyokeres on the hour mark. The Sweden international had shone under Amorim at Sporting Lisbon and had previously been linked with a move to United, whose fans cheered his substitution. United's new frontman Benjamin Sesko was introduced to a huge roar shortly after, offering a tantalising first look at their rebuilt front three. Cunha continued confidently and Mbeumo was a handful, with an acrobatic attempt soon followed by a header that forced a full stretch save from Raya. Sesko nodded across the face of goal as the home side continued to knock on the door, but Arsenal dug deep and Rice saw a whipped free-kick deflect narrowly wide at the other end. United pushed until the end and Cunha saw a penalty claim ignored, but there was no leveller as Arteta's side started the season with a win as '1-0 to the Arsenal' echoed around the ground.
