All-female team triumph in World's Toughest Row
Sharks, towering waves, broken oars and calloused hands.These were just some of the many obstacles faced by the Army's first all-female Force Atlantic team during a 3,000-mile rowing challenge.The team took part in the annual World's Toughest Row, which sees competitors row from the Canary Islands to Antigua.For more than six weeks, Imogen "Imy" O'Brien, Becca Glover, Sheri Lucas and Emma Gibb called their 8.5m rowboat "Rosie" home.
Setting off from San Sebastián on 11 December, the team took 46 days and 55 minutes to reach Nelson's Dockyard in Antigua on 26 January.They finished second in the Women's Class and in 18th place overall. For Ms O'Brien, the skipper, it was the final moments of the journey that stick in her mind.She said: "It was a Biblical storm, I've never seen rain like it, I've never felt wind like it. "It just highlighted the whole trip and how difficult it was that, less than a nautical mile away from the finish line, we nearly didn't finish because we were being blown past the exit."When they stepped on to land, they were greeted by family and friends, who Ms O'Brien said "had sacrificed so much to support us to achieve this". "I've never felt emotion like it," she said. "I wish we could just bottle and keep it, the ending was wild.""A wild adventure, the hardest thing that I've ever done. It took a lot, it took teamwork, it took resilience, it took problem solving. "But we're glad that it was difficult, that added in the depth we needed and we stand here today hoping to inspire others that they can go on and achieve anything they want to achieve."
'Never give up'
Speaking during a talk with students at Reading College, in Berkshire, Emma Gibb said she hoped her team's work could inspire young people to chase their dreams."Hopefully it just gives them that feeling of just never give up and just go for what you want to go for and challenge yourself," she said."We are a minority and, if anything, we want to show women there are so many opportunities."Hopefully people can relate and just see that actually we're just a group of four women, we had an idea, we had this culture and all these values and we brought it to life."Reading College student Callum, 19, said meeting the rowers had certainly inspired him.He said: "It really emphasized the importance of team work and how that links to problem solving and how that can be applied to not just rowing but so many more areas."It really just made me realise that if you can trust your team and your team can trust you, you really can get anything done."

‘Take my money' – Kilmarnock fans split on new Hummel kits and homage to club's most ‘unique international moments'

The Premiership club has revealed its home and away kits for the 2025/26 season, with mixed reviews on social media from supporters. The Hummel strip is in traditional Killie blue with white stripes "infused with the delicate artistry of Ayrshire lace". The 1906 crest is "to honour the legacy of the team's early years and status as the country's first provincial football club." Meanwhile, the club says the away kit is a tribute to the strip they wore 30 years ago in the 1995 South Korea Cup. Kristers Tobers still embracing Aberdeen Scottish Cup euphoria as Latvian reflects on 'hard to comprehend' moment
The big defender has opened up on helping bring the Scottish Cup back to the Granite City for the first time since 1990 Kristers Tobers has been blown away by the reaction to Aberdeen 's Scottish Cup win and wishes every footballer could experience something like it. The Latvian captain is now back home on international duty preparing for games against Azerbaijan and Albania. But he is still on a high from helping the Dons to glory and the euphoria that has gone with it, as they finally brought the Scottish Cup back to Aberdeen after more than three decades. Proud Tobers said: 'Well, yes this was a very, very long-awaited moment for everyone. It was over 35 years ago Aberdeen had last won that cup, so it had been a long time coming. 'People wrote on Instagram, Facebook and even when they met us on the street, they said thank you for the feeling and emotion we were able to give to them. 'It's hard to comprehend. They said there would be a big celebration, a big parade, but somehow it didn't feel like that in the morning. 'But then we were on that parade on the day and well, I wish every footballer could experience something like that. 'We were told there were 135,000 people there. There was no space, those streets were crowded, full of people. It was super emotional.' Tobers had just come back from injury and was on the bench. He came on in extra-time and helped Aberdeen to take the game to penalties, where they dramatically saw off Celtic. And the 24-year-old said: 'It is especially important because I'm a centre-back and the positions don't really change. 'Some of our players started to go down with cramp. I knew I would get on. I felt confident and tried to help the team as best I could. 'It worked. We didn't concede a goal and the victory was super.' Very few people gave the Dons a chance going into the game. They had been on a losing run and also lost their last four games against Celtic. Tobers confirmed the belief came from boss Jimmy Thelin. He said: 'It was such a sweet, sweet victory, knowing that in the previous game at home against them we lost. There was a feeling of bitterness after the game we lost. 'Then we were all ready for that final. The fact that we had such a big opportunity and we knew we had to take it. That's why everyone went all out for that game. 'The coach had been saying for two weeks, 'It's our game and we're going to win. So let's all get in the mood'.' Aberdeen also have the added extra of guaranteed European football until Christmas as they initially go into the Europa League qualifiers. Tobers admitted that is big factor for him and he said: 'Yes, I am staying. I have a contract in place. At the time. it didn't turn out the way I wanted it to with the injury in the second part of the season but overall I'm very happy there. 'My main focus is to make sure I am over all my small injuries and I can prepare for next season. Tobers, who came in from Grasshoppers in January to stabilise the Dons' defence, knows Aberdeen and others are trying to challenge the Celtic and Rangers' duopoly. In the end, it seemed like I had to try and do something new. 'I have the opportunity to play in the Europa League and that also came into my thinking. 'I also watched a couple of Aberdeen games. They have nearly 20,000 fans at the stadium As a player that is the kind of atmosphere you want to play in and it was another reason I went to Aberdeen.'
