Police divers called in search for schoolboy, 13, who vanished near river - after frantic overnight bid to find him
Mylo Capilla was last seen at around 9pm last night, near Ingleby Barwick, wearing a dark t-shirt and trousers.
Mylo is believed to have gone with his friend to the river near to Ramsey Gardens, known locally as the 'muddies', and entered the water.
A major search operation was launched as five ambulances, a specialist Water Rescue Unit, mountain rescue crews, police officers and search dogs rushed to the scene at Ramsey Gardens yesterday evening.
The housing estate, near the River Tees, has since been cordoned off as they continue to search for the young boy into the early hours of this morning.
Today, police divers have been seen searching the river.
Cleveland Police Assistant Chief Constable Dave Sutherland said: 'Since the report at 9pm last night (Thursday 26 June 2025), officers have been conducting extensive searches throughout the night to try and find Mylo.
'These searches are continuing this morning with specialist teams including the police drone and dogs alongside support from Cleveland Fire Brigade, National Police Air Service, marine water and mountain rescue.
'This is understandably hugely distressing for Mylo's family, friends and the wider community.
'While I know members of the public want to help, I would ask you not to search near the river for your own safety and to allow specialist teams to conduct this work in their profession
'Instead, can I please ask you to speak directly to an officer at the scene.
'We are doing all we can to find Mylo and I would ask anyone who has information to please get in touch by calling 101.'
Last night, Police have urged members of the public helping to locate Mylo to avoid the river, and to scour the streets in pairs instead.
Speaking to Teesside Live, a local said there were dozens of residents tirelessly searching for the 13-year-old boy.
'You can see them all in groups of like five or six. There's men and women, some of them are in their dressing gowns,' they said.
Speaking last night, a Cleveland Police spokesperson said: 'Officers are appealing for information that will help them find Mylo Capilla who has been reported missing.
'The 13-year-old boy was last seen at 9pm on Thursday 26 June at the 'Muddies' on Ramsey Gardens in Ingleby Barwick.
'Mylo is believed to be wearing a dark t-shirt and dark bottoms.'
They added: 'While searches are ongoing, officers are reminding members of the public in the area to liaise with them directly and for their own safety not to enter any water.'
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: 'We are currently on-scene at an on-going incident in Ingleby Barwick in Stockton.
'We received the call at 21:29 and currently have one ambulance crew, one duty officer and three crews from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) on scene and we are being supported by our colleagues at the police and fire services.'
A Tees River Rescue spokesperson said: 'Our crews were called out at around 9.15pm on June 26 2025, to assist with searches along the river Tees.
'We would like to reiterate to any public who may be assisting with the search do not enter the water and do not get too close to steep banks.
'We deployed 2 boats and our welfare vehicle with 8 volunteers in total, we will continue to provide support as requested. We will provide no further details.'

Browns' Myles Garrett 40mph over limit in eighth speeding citation in recent years
Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett was cited for travelling 100mph in a 60mph zone on Saturday night. The 29-year-old was stopped in his Ferrari shortly after 2am on a highway in suburban Cleveland, after the Browns had returned from a preseason victory over the Panthers in North Carolina. He was issued a $250 ticket and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, but can pay the fine to avoid attending court. The incident comes three years after Garrett was hospitalized after he flipped his Porsche in a single-vehicle crash. He was traveling 65mph in a 45mph zone before driving off the side of the road, striking a ditch and fire hydrant. The defensive end suffered a sprained shoulder, strained biceps and had several cuts and bruises from the wreck. Saturday's stop was the eighth time Garrett has been cited for speeding since being drafted first overall in 2017 out of Texas A&M. Garrett, the 2023 defensive player of the year, signed a four-year contract extension with the Browns, which includes $123.5m guaranteed, earlier this year. The Brown have not commented on the incident. They are scheduled to travel to Philadelphia on Tuesday for two joint practices and a preseason game. Another high-profile member of the Browns, rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders, was pulled over twice for speeding prior to training camp. In one of the incidents, Sanders was pulled over for going 91mph in a 65mph zone.

Ms Bennett, from St Austell, is described as a blonde white female, around 5ft 10ins and of slim build. She was last seen wearing a white top, black cardigan and blue jeans. Her daughter told PlymouthLive: 'Mum, if you read this please come home. We aren't mad at you and we all bloody love you! 'You win at hide and seek. Just even send me a message to tell me you're OK. We can get through this. I promise. I love you.' Her daughter also claimed that items belonging to Claire had been found. She added: 'We found a bag we believe to be hers at the park by the viaduct in Truro. Minneapolis man, 43, fled into woods during 2020 traffic stop and was never seen again
A Minneapolis father who ran away from police during a traffic stop and disappeared into the woods five years ago still has not been found. Jami Lucas, who would now be age 43, vanished without a trace on July 3, 2020, when the local sheriff tried to pull him over in Outing, Minnesota. Lucas was riding a motorbike, and Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk said he recognized him as an unlicensed driver and tried to pull him over just before sunset. Welk pursued him down Highway 6 and a winding dirt road. Lucas eventually gave up the chase by abandoning his motorcycle and sprinting into the woods. The sheriff said he drew his gun and shouted at Lucas to stop running - but he disappeared into the foliage. Five years later, he still hasn't been seen. 'Where the hell is he?' Welk said in a recent interview with the Star Tribune. Lucas' family have criticized the sheriff's handling of the traffic stop, claiming that he shouldn't have initiated a high speed chase over a minor incident. The father-of-three is known to police with a lengthy rap sheet. They would have known where to find him and didn't need to chase him, his family have argued. His mother, Sandy Lucas, also thinks that the deputies, or even her own relatives, may have been responsible for her son's disappearance. 'They're all crooked,' she said of the police department. In an interview with the Star Tribune, the heartbroken mother added that she believes her son is dead. Sandy said one of Lucas' relatives is in prison, and local media could not reach his ex-girlfriend, or the children they share together. His mother's suspicions were bolstered by a more recent discovery that there was a sixth deputy at the scene of Lucas' disappearance who never filed a report, unlike the other five. The sixth was Lucas' cousin, deputy Aaron Ammerman. Welk said Ammerman was riding with the squad when they saw Lucas on his motorcycle, and he radioed to other deputies asking them to pull him over. Sandy said she is suspicious of both Ammerman and Welk. Ammerman has denied any wrongdoing. 'I didn't do anything in that call,' Ammerman told the Star Tribune of his cousin's disappearance on the Fourth of July weekend. 'By the time we got there he was already gone in the woods… We didn't stay there the whole time because we had to be out on the water for the fireworks display that night.' Ammerman added that Lucas' immediate relatives are 'a family of conspiracy people' and should not be taken seriously. The sheriff's office and Cass County Attorney Ben Lindstrom have said the tragedy was sparked by Lucas' decision to flee law enforcement that fateful evening. 'We certainly want to see people reconnected and have finality, but I guess what I've seen is attacks on law enforcement suggesting that this is their fault that somebody ran from them, and I think that's misplaced,' Lindstrom told the Star Tribune. He added that there are no suspects in the case, and no evidence of foul play. Law enforcement issued a nationwide arrest warrant after Lucas went missing and failed to check in with his probation officer. 'Holding him accountable for the criminal cases are secondary,' Welk told the Star Tribune. 'We need to find him; that's the first and foremost.' But searches of the area by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and sheriff's office have only drawn more blanks. Welk said they combed the area at the time of the disappearance, and again this summer, using ATVs, dogs, and drones. He said the first search was cursory because deputies did not consider Lucas to be a missing person case, but rather evading law enforcement. However, his family has slammed police for failing to issue a missing persons bulletin for Lucas until December 2024 after they filed a misconduct complaint. The family is working with a private investigator to find Lucas, and his mother Sandy has placed a memorial cross adorned with flowers at the site where he disappeared. 'I just want to find my son's remains,' she told the Star Tribune.
