Former Chiefs QB Alex Smith is first-time eligible for the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame
Smith, alongside several notable names, was announced as a first-time eligible player for next year's Hall of Fame. The former top overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft earned three Pro Bowl appearances in Kansas City and ended his career in 2020 triumphantly after overcoming a life-threatening injury. He was named NFL Comeback Player of the Year in his final season with Washington.
The Chiefs traded for Smith in the 2013 offseason, and Andy Reid named him the starter shortly after he took over as head coach. In five seasons as the starter in Kansas City, Smith won 50 games and threw for over 17,000 yards and 102 touchdowns against 33 interceptions.
The list of other players first time eligible includes one Chiefs running back, LeSean McCoy, Drew Brees, Larry Fitzgerald, Jason Witten, Frank Gore, Philip Rivers, Maurkice Pouncey, Todd Gurley, Dez Bryant, Julian Edelman, Thomas Davis, Mike Iupati, Geno Atkins, and Jurrell Casey.

Will Tyreek Hill be a fantasy bust again?
Yahoo Fantasy's Matt Harmon and contributor Ray Garvin debate the potential for the 8-time Pro Bowl receiver to bounce back in Miami. Hear the full conversation on the 'Yahoo Fantasy Forecast' podcast - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript I'm, and he may be the riskiest of them all, but Tyreek Hill, right there in Miami, and I know he is a controversial player to talk about right now. There's all kinds of early speculation and people talking, he could be on the move, but we, we're, we're one year removed from Tyreek Hill being voted on by his peers as the number one overall player in the NFL, a player that we thought could push for 2000 yards in a season. He had 1799 in that year. And let's just be honest, the entire Miami Dolphins offense last year outside of Devon H getting targeted like crazy and John Smith, who was no longer there, underperformed in 2024. For Tyreek Hill, he had his lowest fantasy output since his rookie season in Kansas City last year for Miami. I'm not worried about anybody else in this offense. If he is out there and Tua Tangavaloa is healthy. This is a player who is absolutely capable of not just exceeding his draft capital right now in the 3rd round, but being a true guy that's finished is, one of those upper echelon receivers. He can still do it. It's risky as hell. I'm not telling anybody it's guaranteed to happen, but if there's a guy in there that can do it and is probably going to get the opportunity to do it, if he's on Miami, it's scary, but Tyreek Hill could do it, man. God, he's like the guy I want to take the least in this range because I, I, but talk about it. What, why, why not talk, talk about it. Talk about it, Matt. Talk about it. So Tyreek Hill definitely started to decline last year on an individual standpoint. Now I know there was the wrist stuff, immediately you get the response. Well, hey, uh, maybe he just wasn't all the way locked in. Uh, I don't love that as an excuse ever for, for any player, by the way. Like, who's to say he's fully locked in this year? You know, he's, he's kind of beefing with the quarterback. He's talking about who should be in at the goal line. Mike McDaniel puts Jalen Wright in at the goal line in the, in the damn preseason game, immediately stuffed. He's like, see you, Tyree, uh, I know what I'm talking about here. Anyways, don't love that part of it. That's like sort of the more intangible thing, but I also, one thing I am confident in saying, usually once a guy starts to decline, he's in his 30s like that, the next thing isn't right back up to elite form. You know what I'm saying? Close

Michigan State football is halfway through fall preseason camp, with the team holding their first scrimmage this past weekend. That scrimmage provided head coach Jonathan Smith, with some interesting insight on the team -- which he shared on Monday. Smith met with the local media on Monday to talk about the first few weeks of fall preseason camp as the Spartans enter week three of practice. This was also the first time for media availability following the Spartans' first preseason scrimmage, which was a hot topic during Smith's press conference. Check out what Smith had to say about the team's first scrimmage and how practice has gone the first two weeks of fall camp in the highlights and full video sections below: Highlights Some of the notable topics covered during Smith's media session on Monday were... Jonathan Smith provides interesting update on MSU O-Line depth
Depth within the offensive line was a concern last season for the Spartans, but that doesn't appear to be the case anymore. Michigan State is in the midst of fall preseason camp, with the Spartans kicking off week three of practice earlier on Monday. As part of progressing into week three, Spartans head coach Jonathan Smith met with the media on Monday to discuss a number of topics surrounding his team. One of those was the depth he's seeing at offensive line. According to a post from Emmett Matasovsky of Spartan Shadows, Smith said there's a battle for the starting five spots on the offensive line, with "close to 10 guys" still in the mix. This quote is particularly interesting because, to me, this suggests they feel pretty good about essentially their entire two deep at offensive line. Michigan State's offensive line has been a weakness for the Spartans for what feels like a decade at this point. Sure, there have been bright spots along the way, but it hasn't been a unit that has given the fan base much faith over at least the last few seasons at a minimum. If Michigan State can put together an average Big Ten offensive line, I feel very confident in what they can achieve this season on that side of the ball. The skilled position groups all seem to be upper-tier in the league, with the offensive line being the biggest question mark. However, it's starting to sound like we should be putting more faith and expectations into that unit as we inch closer and close to the start of the 2025 season.
