PM Anwar receives courtesy call from defence ministers of Cambodia, Thailand
Anwar also convened a closed-door meeting with the two ministers, together with their respective delegations.
Also present were Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari and Chief of Defence Force General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar.
The meeting, which lasted 30 minutes, discussed, among other things, the ceasefire and the General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting.
Meanwhile, Anwar in his post on Facebook said it was a meaningful meeting that resulted in a key consensus to sustain dialogue and uphold the ceasefire along the Thailand-Cambodia border, in effect since 28 July.
'I appreciate the trust placed in Malaysia to continue facilitating the peace process, particularly through the leadership of the Chief of Defence Force General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar.
'Both sides also reached several important agreements, including full adherence to the ceasefire without any form of aggression, no increase or repositioning of troops, avoidance of provocative actions, and a firm commitment to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure,' he posted.
Anwar said they also discussed the proposed deployment of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) to support monitoring efforts, humanitarian assistance and medical coordination at the border.
'Malaysia will continue to support this process in the belief that lasting peace is only possible through dialogue, mutual respect and genuine friendship,' he added.
Later today, the Thai and Cambodian delegations are scheduled to hold the Extraordinary GBC Meeting at Wisma Perwira Angkatan Tentera Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur. — BERNAMA

Thailand claims three soldiers injured by landmine along border, Cambodia strongly refutes
BANGKOK/PHNOM PENH (Xinhua): The Thai Army said three Thai soldiers were injured in a landmine explosion on Saturday morning during a patrol operation along the Thai-Cambodian border. However, Cambodia strongly refuted the Thai accusations. According to Thailand's Second Army Region, the explosion occurred at around 10:00 a.m. local time, when Thai troops were conducting a patrol and laying barbed wire to reinforce border security in Sisaket Province. Thai army spokesperson Winthai Suvaree said that the incident clearly demonstrated the continued, concealed use of weapons along the border by the Cambodian side, which is a clear violation of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, or the Ottawa Convention. "Such actions pose a major obstacle to implementing ceasefire measures and resolving the conflict through peaceful means and further reinforce evidence that Cambodia has consistently initiated the use of weapons first," Winthai said in a statement. The Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA) on Saturday evening strongly refuted the Thai accusations that Cambodia laid new mines that exploded and injured three Thai soldiers. "Cambodia's position is unequivocal: We have not, and will not, plant new landmines," the CMAA said in a press release. "At this time, no official and transparent investigation has been carried out regarding the reported incident involving injured Thai soldiers," the press release said. "In the absence of verified facts, it is essential that all parties exercise restraint in public statements. Unsubstantiated accusations not only risk undermining the spirit of cooperation established under the ceasefire but also threaten to erode trust at a moment when constructive engagement is most needed," it added. The press release said Cambodia hopes that the Thai side will respect the points agreed upon at the extraordinary meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC), especially point two, which states that both sides maintain current troop deployments without further movement, including patrol towards the other side's position. On Aug. 7, Cambodia and Thailand reached a consensus on the details of a ceasefire and signed an agreement at a GBC extraordinary meeting held in Malaysia. Bangladesh chief advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus to undertake official visit to Malaysia
PUTRAJAYA, Aug 10 (Bernama): Chief Advisor of the Government of Bangladesh Dr Muhammad Yunus will undertake an official visit to Malaysia from Monday until Wednesday (Aug 11 to Aug 13, 2025), at the invitation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. In a statement on Sunday, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry said the visit reciprocates Anwar's official trip to Bangladesh in October 2024, and several advisors and senior government officials will accompany Yunus. The ministry, also known as Wisma Putra, said that Yunus will be accorded an official welcoming ceremony at the Perdana Putra Complex on Aug 12, followed by a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister. "Both leaders are expected to review the progress of Malaysia-Bangladesh relations, particularly in the areas of trade and investment, labour, education, tourism and defence. "The discussions will also include regional and international developments of mutual interest,' the statement said. During the visit, Yunus and Anwar will witness the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in the fields of defence, energy, strategic and international studies, capacity building in semiconductors, and trade promotion. An Exchange of Notes will also be signed in the areas of diplomatic training and higher education. The ministry said in honour of Yunus and his delegation, the Prime Minister will host an official luncheon at the Seri Perdana Complex. It said that on Wednesday (Aug 13), Yunus is scheduled to deliver a public lecture and be conferred an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Social Business by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). The Chief Advisor will also attend a session with members of the Yunus Social Business Centre community and the university network, in a programme jointly organised by UKM. In 2024, total trade between Malaysia and Bangladesh reached RM13.35 billion (US$2.92 billion), an increase of 5.1 per cent compared with 2023. Bangladesh is Malaysia's second-largest trading partner and export destination in South Asia. Major Malaysian exports to Bangladesh include petroleum products, palm oil and chemicals, while imports comprise textiles, footwear, petroleum products and manufactures. It said the visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations and foster stronger cooperation in areas of mutual benefit, building upon the strong foundation established since diplomatic ties were forged in 1972. - Bernama
