New villages welcome news on 13MP incentives
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had said the socio‑economic level of Chinese new villages would be strengthened through the Kampung Baru Development Master Plan, which would provide financing for entrepreneurial activities, including the preparation and upgrading of hawker sites. Lim says the Prime Minister's announcement on 13MP is encouraging.
At Selangor's Seri Berjuntai New Village in Bestari Jaya, which has about 2,500 residents, village chief Chiang Yoke Leong said employment prospects were limited.
'There are more job opportunities in other towns like Ijok,' he said.
On infrastructure, Chiang said that while some drainage upgrades have been carried out, those projects were 'few and far between'.
He also highlighted the lack of a waste collection facility, adding that tourism had yet to take off in the village.
'Most people bypass our village, but with funding and new proposals we hope to build up some kind of cottage industry or tourist sites,' he said.
Kampung Cempaka New Village chief Theresa Lim said Anwar's announcement was encouraging.
'It is good news for new villages,' she said.
Lim said that while most residents in the Petaling Jaya village were senior citizens, a younger community still remained.
'There is potential for them to get some kind of funding to start a business in the village.
'As for infrastructure, the situation can be improved with better roads and proper drainage,' she said.
Lim also hoped for more green spaces for the village's elderly folk.

NIO's European journey began in 2015 with the launch of its Global Design Center in Munich. Its full-scale market rollout, including vehicle sales, user support, and battery swap infrastructure, was initiated in 2021, starting in Norway and later expanding to Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden. Zhang Hui, vice president of NIO Europe, reaffirmed the company's commitment to the region, saying that NIO's German base remains a central hub for its global innovation efforts.

German minister: EU must become stronger in Trump tariff talks

"Overall, as Europeans, we must become stronger," Klingbeil said in Washington ahead of a meeting with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. "Then we can also stand up to the U.S. with more self-confidence. Not against the U.S., but in dialogue with the U.S." Klingbeil said there needed to be a quick solution to the trade conflict with the U.S. as companies needed planning certainty. "Even though I am not the one negotiating today — that is the task of the European Commission — a close line of communication between me and Scott Bessent can help clarify things," he said, emphasizing the importance of the Transatlantic relationship. Apart from tariffs, Klingbeil and Bessent will discuss how to deal with cheap Chinese goods that are flooding the markets in both the U.S. and Europe, as well as the G20 presidency that the U.S. will take at the end of the year. "I believe it is important that we, from the German side, keep sending a clear signal: We want to work closely with the American government, we seek dialogue, we do not shy away from difficult topics and are looking at how we can solve problems together," Klingbeil said. The EU's trade deal with Trump in July was greeted with a mix of relief and anger, with tariffs set at 15% for most products but negotiations continuing for certain sectors, including steel and aluminium, which carry tariffs of 50%. Klingbeil would advocate for a quota system on steel exports to be included in the trade deal, he told reporters. Changes to 13MP weren't out of nowhere, says ministry

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The changes made to the 13th Malaysia Plan following Rafizi Ramli's resignation as economy minister were not sudden, according to the government. The economy ministry said the amendments were instead part of its measures to ensure the 13MP was aligned with the Madani economy's aspirations. 'The changes and amendments made to the 13MP draft were not sudden in nature or outside of our planning. 'The preparation of the 13MP, meant for the next five years, was executed based on necessity following holistic negotiation processes involving all stakeholders,' it said in a written parliamentary reply. The ministry said 'overhauls and revisions' were made throughout the document's preparation to ensure every view and proposal received was taken into account while staying true to the government's main policies. It was replying to Ronald Kiandee (PN-Beluran), who had asked what drastic policy changes necessitated the 13MP being amended at the last minute. Kiandee, a Bersatu vice-president, was referring to the announcement on June 27 that finance minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan was given the duties of the economy portfolio and tasked with amending and overhauling the 13MP. Amir had said he received 'a lot of feedback' from other ministers which necessitated an overhaul of the 13MP. Rafizi questioned why the 13MP needed to be revamped. However, he later said he was happy that nearly all the major policy reforms he had included were retained in the tabled version of the document.
