SpaceX to add another 24 Starlink satellites to Earth's orbit today: Here's how to tune in live

Indian Express26-07-2025
SpaceX Starlink has been on a satellite launch spree lately. Last week, the Elon Musk-owned company successfully sent 24 Starlink satellites on a Falcon 9 rocket from the Vandenbueg Space Force base, and now it is planning to add 28 more satellites to its constellation.
The new batch of satellites, which are part of Starlink's 10-26 mission, will be joining the existing 8,000-plus Starlink satellites that are already placed in Earth's low orbit. The flight comes after Starlink suffered a two-plus-hour global outage, which it said was because of a software glitch. For those wondering, the lift off is scheduled at 1:31 PM IST. You can watch the live stream in the video below or from SpaceX's website.
According to Spaceflightnow, the 45th Weather Squadron said that there is a 95 per cent chance for favourable weather conditions during the launch window, which means that the launch may not be delayed due to bad weather.
The Falcon 9 first stage booster that's being used for the Starlink 10-26 mission was previously used to launch 17 batches of Starlink satellites and is being used for the 22nd time. Almost eight minutes after launch, the booster will land on the droneship named 'A Shortfall of Gravitas' located in the Atlantic Ocean. If the touchdown is successful, this will be the 119th time the vessel has recaptured a booster and the 480th booster landing for SpaceX. The company started beta testing of Starlink back in 2020, and since then, the satellite internet service has expanded to over 115 countries.
SpaceX is also gearing up for NASA's upcoming Crew-11 mission launch, which will carry astronauts Zena Cardman, Mike Fincke, Kimiya Yui, and OlegPlatonov to the International Space Station for a science mission. The liftoff for this mission is targeted for 9:39 PM IST on July 31.

Elon Musk Reacts After Shivon Zilis Uses Grok Imagine To Turn Son's Doodle Into Animated Video

Shivon Zilis, a Neuralink executive and mother to four of Elon Musk's children, recently shared a heartwarming AI-generated video that brought her young son's imagination to life. Posting on X, Ms Zilis uploaded a doodle drawn by her 3-year-old son, Strider. The doodle shows a yellow starship flying toward a pink Mars, lovingly addressed to "Daddy." She used xAI's Grok Imagine tool to animate the artwork. This new tool promises users to turn text or image prompts into a 15-second video featuring native audio. "Imagine bringing images to life," Ms Zilis captioned the post. The charming video quickly resonated with parents online and even caught the attention of Elon Musk. "Grok Imagine can turn your child's drawing into an animated movie," the billionaire wrote while resharing the post. Take a look below: Grok Imagine can turn your child's drawing into an animated movie 🥰 — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) August 5, 2025 Since being shared, the video has accumulated more than 8 million views. Internet users praised the new AI tool. Many even shared animated versions of their own children's paintings. "The reason Grok Imagine is the best is that it constantly improves and makes itself better. People can turn their children's drawings into videos and feel joy, or they can draw everything they dream of. That's truly a wonderful thing," one user wrote. "The way my kids will learn art is so different. In a good way. They can truly see their imagination come to life," commented another. "That's such a great way to inspire kids to keep creating art and also preserve it for a long time," said a third user. "Kids these days are so lucky to have these tools to grow up with," commented one user. Notably, Elon Musk's AI company officially rolled out Grok Imagine earlier this week to all SuperGrok and Premium+ X subscribers on its iOS app. The new AI tool features generative AI with text-to-image capabilities as well as the ability to turn images into short video clips with sound. Mr Musk has praised Grok Imagine on X, calling it a "meme motherlode". On X, excited Grok users are also eagerly sharing their creations, and xAI founder Elon Musk is retweeting user posts. Notably, Grok Imagine's launch comes days after xAI released Grok 4, the company's latest and most intelligent model to date. "With respect to academic questions, Grok 4 is better than PhD level in every subject, no exceptions," said Elon Musk, per Tech Crunch. "At times, it may lack common sense, and it has not yet invented new technologies or discovered new physics, but that is just a matter of time," he added.

Uber in talks with banks, private equity firms to fund robotaxi expansion

Uber is in talks with private equity firms and banks to secure funds to build its robotaxi business, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said, as the ride-hailing giant bets on a mass roll-out of the nascent and much-scrutinized technology. Uber, which offers robotaxis from Alphabet-owned Waymo, has been strengthening its foothold in the self-driving taxi industry through partnerships with automakers such as Volkswagen and Lucid, just as Tesla seeks to expand its fledgling robotaxi business. Mr. Khosrowshahi on Wednesday (August 6, 2025) pitched the tie-ups as part of a larger plan that involves three robotaxi business models: paying partners that own such vehicles a fixed rate, sharing revenue with fleet operators and owning vehicles while licensing software for self-driving technology. "We are talking to private equity players, we have talked to banks," the CEO said. "Once we prove the revenue model, how much these cars can generate on a per day basis, there will be plenty of financing to go around." For now, Uber said it was planning on using a "modest" portion of its around $7 billion in annual cash flows to fund deployments. It might also sell minority stakes in companies to aid the expansion, it said. Analysts have said that mass robotaxi deployment could lower driver-reliant Uber's operating costs and boost profitability. The company has been offering Waymo robotaxis on its ride-hailing app in Austin, Texas and Atlanta, Georgia. In April, Uber entered a deal with Volkswagen for thousands of autonomous electric vans in the United States over the next decade. It also struck a $300 million partnership in July that will allow it to deploy more than 20,000 autonomous taxis, made by EV startup Lucid and powered by self-driving tech from Nuro, over six years. Despite strong regulatory scrutiny, doubts about wider adoption, and high costs forcing many firms to shut down, Tesla and Waymo have been pushing to expand robotaxi services, a business Elon Musk has said could be worth trillions of dollars. Waymo is present in five U.S. cities, including San Francisco, while Tesla launched a limited robotaxi service in Austin in June and started ride-hailing operations in the Bay Area last month. Uber said it has not yet seen any changes in demand trends in Austin or San Francisco since Tesla's services were launched in the cities. "To a lot of these companies, it does seem this will be a worthwhile endeavor ... as there are lofty predictions about the robotaxi industry's total addressable market," said Ken Mahoney, CEO of Mahoney Asset Management.
