Former NFLer Taylor Lewan's first pitch at Cardinals game was an utter disaster: ‘Worst day'

Taylor Lewan is giving 50 Cent a run for his money.
The former Titans offensive tackle threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Cardinals' game Thursday against the Royals and it did not go well — instantly triggering memories of Fiddys infamous first pitch at a Mets game more than 10 years ago.
The 6-foot-7 lefty began his windup that looked very prim and proper.

But when Lewan released the ball, fans had to duck out of the way as the pitch was just a bit outside — that's if multiple feet wide of even the outermost part of the left-handed batter's box is considered 'just a bit outside.'
Lewan instantly threw his hat to the ground in disgust with himself, sulked off the mound and forced himself to do push-ups as a punishment for the brutal pitch.
He then ran to social media to warn everybody of the avalanche of trolling that was forthcoming.

'Currently at the Cardinals game, and there's something I need to get ahead of,' he wrote on X.
'A video will be surfacing of me throwing a pitch from the mound. Let's just say… the haters are going to have an absolute field day.'

He wasn't wrong, as the trolls wasted no time.
Lewan played nine seasons in the NFL, all for the Titans.
The three-time Pro Bowler had his ups and downs — but none of those downs quite compared to his first pitch.
'This is the worst day of my athletic career and that includes the Chandler Jones game,' Lewan posted to X.
And that's saying something. Chandler Jones once sacked Lewan's quarterback Ryan Tannehill an absurd five times in one game.

Perhaps it's just that he gets some points for the solid windup, but Lewan's pitch (somehow) still didn't look quite as bad as 50 Cent's — but you'd expect a tad better from a former professional athlete.
'I need redemption,' Lewan said.

New York Jets Predicted to Have Four First-Time Pro Bowlers

New York Jets Predicted to Have Four First-Time Pro Bowlers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. In 2024, the 5-12 New York Jets send just one player to the Pro Bowl: defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, who was selected as a replacement player. It wasn't for a lack of talent, but due to the turmoil caused by the coaching situation, many talented youngsters on the Jets underperformed. Advertisement 2025 hopes to have a different outlook for a Jets team with new faces at quarterback, head coach and general manager. Predictions for the upcoming season seem to be all over the place for the Jets, with some analysts suggesting a potential playoff run, while other suggest the Jets are headed for another top selection in the NFL Draft. Sporting News' Peter Martuneac predicts four Jets will make their first Pro Bowls in 2025. Martuneac's first selection is the new quarterback in town, Justin Fields. "For the Jets, it begins and ends with their likely QB1, Justin Fields." Noted Martuneac. "Despite streaky play thus far in his four NFL seasons, Fields has flashed plenty of glimpses of an elite quarterback. And, to be fair to Fields, he was never surrounded by the type of talent this Jets team currently has, nor did he receive much competent coaching while in Chicago. If the Jets can finally unlock Fields and get him to his full potential, the sky's the limit, and the early returns in OTA's are promising. Not only would he be a Pro Bowler, but an All-Pro award would likely be in play, as well." Advertisement Fields' No. 1 target for the upcoming season and former college teammate is also primed for his first Pro Bowl appearance, despite being potentially snubbed in previous years, according to Martuneac. "He may have been Rookie of the Year in 2022, but Wilson has somehow failed to win a Pro Bowl award despite starting his career off with three straight 1,000 yard seasons. And he did all that with mostly questionable quarterback play." Wrote Martuneac. "Now he has his old Ohio State teammate Justin Fields throwing him the ball, and they already appear to be recapturing that old chemistry that made Ohio State's offense so electric in 2020. If Fields lives up to his potential, expect Wilson to be the main beneficiary of that which should be more than enough for his first Pro Bowl nod." Completing a trifecta of offensive Pro Bowl selections is Breece Hall. Hall's offseason has been a bit tumultuous, with head coach Aaron Glenn suggesting he may opt for a running back by committee approach, which may limit Hall's carries. But Martuneac believes Hall is about to embark on his best season yet. "Despite somewhat of a down year in 2024, Hall is primed for a career year. By adding Justin Fields, one of the most dynamic running quarterbacks in the NFL, the Jets' run game has the juice for an explosive season. On top of that, they greatly improved the offensive line, as well." Wrote Martuneac. "Don't be surprised if Hall flirts with 2,000 total yards in 2025 give the improvements to both the O-line and quarterback position. The ceiling is truly sky-high for him." Advertisement On the defensive side of the ball, 2024 breakout star Will McDonald IV will finally get his flowers, according to Martuneac. "When the Jets drafted McDonald in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, most analysts had little good to say about the pick, and his rookie season seemed to confirm those doubts. But McDonald silenced all the haters with a mini-breakout in 2024 in which he registered 10.5 sacks and 24 QB hits." Martuneac wrote. "With the highly regarded defensive mind of Aaron Glenn now in New York, expect McDonald to have a true breakout season in 2025. I would not be surprised to see him hit 17 sacks this year. If he can get those numbers and lead a dominant Jets defense to the playoffs, he's a shoo-in for his first Pro Bowl award." Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil must improve in order to help the Washington Commanders reach their goals this season.

Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil must improve in order to help the Washington Commanders reach their goals this season. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Washington Commanders were busy this offseason shipping out 2025 NFL Draft picks in exchange for veteran stars. They believe these acquisitions can bring their Super Bowl window closer than ever following a surprising run to the NFC championship game last season. Advertisement Two trades on the offensive side of the ball stand out: Acquiring receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. from the San Francisco 49ers and offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil from the Houston Texans. Samuel should be an exciting addition to breakout quarterback Jayden Daniels' weaponry, but adding Tunsil could be a game-changer ... if the investment doesn't tank. Last season the Commanders had Brandon Coleman, a rookie third-round pick, protecting Daniels' blindside at left tackle and many indications said they might keep it that way for the future. However, general manager Adam Peters chose to be aggressive in pursuit of someone more experienced. Tunsil is a five-time Pro Bowler with the Texans and highly-regarded as one of the best tackles entering his prime. But things didn't feel that way last season. Advertisement He had a noticeable dip in production from what we're accustomed to from him. ESPN notes that Tunsil did have a solid season as a blocker with just a 2.2% quick pressure rate and only 2.5 sacks allowed in 17 games, but that wasn't the whole story. His struggle came in penalties ... usually before the snap. Tunsil was flagged a league-high 19 times, with 12 being false starts. He was whistled six separate times in one game alone against the Minnesota Vikings, including three illegal formations. That particular instance could be chalked up to a bad day at the office, but this full season could also warrant some concern from a player with Tunsil's experience. Tunsil has had difficulties drawing flags before, but 2024 seemed to be an outlier that may or may not foreshadow future struggles. Advertisement Peters and the Commanders sure hope it doesn't. With a second-year quarterback, a strong offensive line is pivotal in sustaining postseason success - no matter how well Daniels can scamper out of the pocket. Washington is relying on Tunsil having more in the tank than what he showed last year. And at 30 years old, they believe he has plenty of good years left in him ... or they wouldn't turn to him to protect a QB who has his whole career ahead. Tunsil, who represents himself in financial negotiations, is entering the final year of his three-year $75 million contract signed with Houston in 2023. He'll be paid $21 million to play a premium position this season, which could be looked at as a steal given his track record to this point and inherited importance on the roster. Advertisement His performance will dictate whether the move was worth it for the Commanders, but in this win-now window, they won't be satisfied with the season Tunsil had last year. A chip on his shoulder and in a contract year? That motivation could be exactly what Tunsil needs to avoid being at the center of a flopped trade. Ex-NFL star Taylor Lewan has 'worst day of my athletic life' with disastrous first pitch

Taylor Lewan should stick to the trenches. The former NFL offensive lineman was invited to throw the ceremonial first pitch at Thursday's St. Louis Cardinals game, and it was a major disappointment. Lewan, to his credit, threw the pitch from 60 feet and 6 inches away as he toed the rubber at Busch Stadium. The former Tennessee Titan, a southpaw, wound up but sailed the ball closer to the first-base on-deck circle than home plate, and several people were within striking distance. Luckily for Lewan, no one was injured, but a disgusted Lewan threw his hat to the field and punished himself with pushups. "This is the worst day of my athletic career and that includes the Chandler Jones game. I need redemption," Lewan posted on X, noting the time Jones sacked Ryan Tannehill five times. Even Lewan's former teammates in Tennessee, where he spent all nine of his NFL seasons, posted a GIF of 50 Cent's infamous first pitch from 2013. The two are carbon copies. But Lewan is primed for a better performance next time. "Not gonna dwell on comments about 'keeping my chin up' coming from someone without one. No excuses. We have to be better, and there will be redemption," he said in another post. Lewan was named to three consecutive Pro Bowls from 2016 to 2018.
