Influencer Kamal Kaur found dead in a car in Punjab, cops suspect murder
The body of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari was found at a parked car at Adesh Hospital in Bhucho, Bathinda on Wednesday evening, police confirmed.
Known by her online persona 'Kamal Kaur Bhabhi', Kanchan had a verified Instagram account with over 3.83 lakh followers and had posted 1,351 times on the platform. She was also active on several other social media sites.
According to police sources, Kanchan had been criticised a few months ago by a gangster based overseas for allegedly using objectionable language in her content.
Superintendent of Police (City) Narinder Singh confirmed on Thursday that the deceased was a 30-year-old resident of Lachman Colony in Ludhiana.
'The victim's family has been informed. Preliminary information suggests she left Ludhiana on June 9 for a promotional event in Bathinda and subsequently lost contact with her family. Further legal action will be taken based on their statements,' he said.
Investigators suspect the woman was murdered and her body later dumped in the rear seat of the car.
'Due to the advanced stage of decomposition, it is currently not possible to determine the presence of any injury marks. The body has been sent to Shaheed Bhai Mani Singh Civil Hospital for post-mortem,' the SP added.
Police were alerted after a foul smell was noticed coming from the parked vehicle, which appeared to have been abandoned.

‘Didn't get time to make reels': Noida woman files police complaint against husband over housework; blames loss of Instagram followers
A disagreement over Instagram use escalated into a full-blown police matter in Uttar Pradesh after a woman accused her husband of overburdening her with household chores, leaving her with no time to focus on creating content for social media. As reported by News18, the unusual dispute involves Nisha and her husband Vijendra. They live in Noida. Trouble began when Vijendra suggested that Nisha should spend less time on Instagram and more on domestic chores. The advice didn't go down well, sparking growing tension between the two. Initially, Nisha did cut down on her time online, but things took a turn when she noticed her follower count drop by two. Upset by the decline, she packed her bags and left for her parents' home in Pilkhuwa, Hapur district. There, she approached the Women's Police Station in Hapur and filed a complaint against Vijendra. Speaking to the police, she reportedly said, 'My followers declined as I was kept busy washing utensils and cleaning the house by my husband. With initial suspicion of a murder, the police have now arrested two accused in the case, identifying them as Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjit Singh. A third accused, Amritpal Singh Mehron, is said to be absconding. Amid the ongoing investigations, Kamal Kaur has been cremated by her family but with only three members in attendance. Despite having a strong social media presence, with over 4,00,000 followers on Instagram, Kaur's funeral failed to draw the attention of mourners. As per The Tribune, not many were present at the funeral except her family members and a few government personnel, and activists of Sahara Jan Sewa. Kamal Kaur's last rites were performed at Lachhman Colony in Ludhiana, Punjab. On the other hand, her social media posts, which saw major traction from her followers over the past few days, have invited the ire of activists of radical Sikh organisations, including Nihangs—an order of Sikh warriors who are characterised by blue robes, armed with swords and spears, and decorated turbans. A number of the late influencer's posts were inundated with comments in support of her murder and the need for moral policing. Meanwhile, Amritpal Singh Mehron, the key conspirator in the murder case, has taken responsibility for the act. In a now-viral video, Mehron alleged that Kaur had defamed the Sikh tradition and used her name to create obscene content. Issuing a warning to other online creators, he added, 'Our Gurus have given us the surnames of 'Singh' and 'Kaur' and we cannot allow women migrating from UP and Bihar to suffix the title of Kaur. Khalsa never attacks women, but when a woman targets our Takhts and mocks Sikh values, she cannot be spared."
