Hindustan Times2 days ago

The body of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari was found at a parked car at Adesh Hospital in Bhucho, Bathinda on Wednesday evening, police confirmed.
Known by her online persona 'Kamal Kaur Bhabhi', Kanchan had a verified Instagram account with over 3.83 lakh followers and had posted 1,351 times on the platform. She was also active on several other social media sites.
According to police sources, Kanchan had been criticised a few months ago by a gangster based overseas for allegedly using objectionable language in her content.
Superintendent of Police (City) Narinder Singh confirmed on Thursday that the deceased was a 30-year-old resident of Lachman Colony in Ludhiana.
'The victim's family has been informed. Preliminary information suggests she left Ludhiana on June 9 for a promotional event in Bathinda and subsequently lost contact with her family. Further legal action will be taken based on their statements,' he said.
Investigators suspect the woman was murdered and her body later dumped in the rear seat of the car.
'Due to the advanced stage of decomposition, it is currently not possible to determine the presence of any injury marks. The body has been sent to Shaheed Bhai Mani Singh Civil Hospital for post-mortem,' the SP added.
Police were alerted after a foul smell was noticed coming from the parked vehicle, which appeared to have been abandoned.

This Father's Day, ParentVerse Salutes the OG Firewall with #SabKaBaap — Because Before ‘Report' and ‘Block', There Was Just… Papa

Before there were 'Report' and 'Block' buttons, there was always Papa. With a sharp eye and a steady voice, he'd say, 'Not on my watch' — and that was enough. This Father's Day, ParentVerse, India's first-of-its-kind parenting lifestyle platform, launches its deeply resonant campaign, #SabKaBaap, honouring fathers as the original firewalls of the family — the quiet guardians who have protected their children long before digital tools existed. Today, digital threats aren't just stories. They're statistics — and in India, they're staggering. India has the highest rate of cyberbullying in the world, with over 85% of children reporting being victims. More alarmingly, children in India also report bullying others online twice as often as the global average. Nearly 46% admit to cyberbullying strangers, while 48% confess to targeting people they know, compared to just 17% and 21% globally. From spreading false rumours (39%) to being excluded from group chats (35%) or called names (34%), the emotional toll is significant, often silent, and deeply scarring. In the face of these rising challenges, fathers have stepped into roles they were never trained for — digital disciplinarians, tech troubleshooters, and emotional anchors. Whether it's setting screen time limits, talking kids through online harassment, or simply watching over from the sidelines, dads are now the first responders in a crisis that's mostly invisible. "In today's digital age, fathers are not just caregivers — they are the frontline defenders of their children's online safety," says Abhinav Rao K, Founder & CEO, ParentVerse. "Through the #SabKaBaap campaign, we want to celebrate those everyday acts of protection — the silent glances at a child's phone, the late-night conversations about hurtful comments, the unspoken promise of safety." The campaign is also a call to action for fathers to go beyond protection and move into partnership. A recent Times of India report highlighted police concerns around platforms like Instagram and the urgent need for parents to 'be friends with their kids' online. That emotional bridge — where children feel seen, heard, and safe enough to share — begins at home, and often, with dad. Founded in Hyderabad in 2023 by Abhinav Rao K and Neenv Raju Akunuri, ParentVerse was born out of the need to make parenting relevant and responsible in a hyper-digital world. A free parent control app for kids, ParentVerse blends behavioural science with intuitive technology to help parents track screen time, limit app usage, and better understand their children's digital journeys. Whether you're looking for a parent control app or a parent control app to limit app usage, ParentVerse empowers families to create safer, smarter, and more meaningful connections. This Father's Day, ParentVerse invites every family to look beyond gifts and cards, and instead offer a moment of gratitude for the dad who's always stood guard, said the tough things, and shown up, even when he didn't know how. Because #SabKaBaap is not just a campaign — it's a celebration of the man who's been the firewall long before we knew we needed one.

‘Didn't get time to make reels': Noida woman files police complaint against husband over housework; blames loss of Instagram followers

A disagreement over Instagram use escalated into a full-blown police matter in Uttar Pradesh after a woman accused her husband of overburdening her with household chores, leaving her with no time to focus on creating content for social media. As reported by News18, the unusual dispute involves Nisha and her husband Vijendra. They live in Noida. Trouble began when Vijendra suggested that Nisha should spend less time on Instagram and more on domestic chores. The advice didn't go down well, sparking growing tension between the two. Initially, Nisha did cut down on her time online, but things took a turn when she noticed her follower count drop by two. Upset by the decline, she packed her bags and left for her parents' home in Pilkhuwa, Hapur district. There, she approached the Women's Police Station in Hapur and filed a complaint against Vijendra. Speaking to the police, she reportedly said, 'My followers declined as I was kept busy washing utensils and cleaning the house by my husband. I didn't get time to make Reels,' according to Deccan Herald. Nisha also told officers that she was in the habit of uploading two Reels a day. Police officers stepped in to mediate, conducting multiple counselling sessions to ease the conflict. While things have reportedly calmed down, the couple is still living apart. To make matters worse, News18 reports that Vijendra lost his job amid the ongoing personal turmoil. He's now said to be actively searching for work and attending job interviews around the city. The whole incident went viral on social media platforms and netizens reacted to it. A user said, 'Peak social media craze! Two reels a day to keep the divorce away.' Another user wrote, 'Modern problems require viral solutions.' A third person commented, 'Insta virus is spreading faster than covid….. Watch out floks.' A fourth individual wrote, 'Bhai tune anjane m bollywood walo ko nyi movie ki script de di (You've unknowingly handed Bollywood a new movie script).'

Just 3 Kin At Influencer Kamal Kaur Bhabhi's Cremation: ‘Can't Allow UP, Bihar Migrants...'

Last Updated: Even those who watched and appreciated her non-traditional posts during her lifetime, have now criticised her for posing as a 'Kaur' instead of her original name — Kanchan Kumari. Social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, aka Kamal Kaur, known for her viral and often controversial Instagram posts, was found dead inside a car in Bathinda. With initial suspicion of a murder, the police have now arrested two accused in the case, identifying them as Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjit Singh. A third accused, Amritpal Singh Mehron, is said to be absconding. Amid the ongoing investigations, Kamal Kaur has been cremated by her family but with only three members in attendance. Despite having a strong social media presence, with over 4,00,000 followers on Instagram, Kaur's funeral failed to draw the attention of mourners. As per The Tribune, not many were present at the funeral except her family members and a few government personnel, and activists of Sahara Jan Sewa. Kamal Kaur's last rites were performed at Lachhman Colony in Ludhiana, Punjab. On the other hand, her social media posts, which saw major traction from her followers over the past few days, have invited the ire of activists of radical Sikh organisations, including Nihangs—an order of Sikh warriors who are characterised by blue robes, armed with swords and spears, and decorated turbans. Even those of her followers who so far appreciated her non-traditional posts and videos have started criticising Kaur for not using her original name, i.e., Kanchan Kumari. A number of the late influencer's posts were inundated with comments in support of her murder and the need for moral policing. Meanwhile, Amritpal Singh Mehron, the key conspirator in the murder case, has taken responsibility for the act. In a now-viral video, Mehron alleged that Kaur had defamed the Sikh tradition and used her name to create obscene content. Issuing a warning to other online creators, he added, 'Our Gurus have given us the surnames of 'Singh' and 'Kaur' and we cannot allow women migrating from UP and Bihar to suffix the title of Kaur. Khalsa never attacks women, but when a woman targets our Takhts and mocks Sikh values, she cannot be spared." After the killing of Kanchan Kumari (aka Kamal), Amritpal Singh Mehron posted a video explaining the reason behind the act. He showed her obscene videos as evidence and warned other Instagram users posting such content saying they'll face the same fate if they don't stop. The arrested men have admitted to killing Kaur for uploading 'immoral and vulgar content that hurt the community's sentiments." The 30-year-old influencer runs her Instagram handle under the name Kamal Kaur Bhabhi. First Published:
