In Oct 2024, the Prem Nagar RWA of ward no 35 filed a complaint with the NGT against illegal dyeing units operating without permission from the competent authorities, causing air and water pollution and contaminating groundwater.
The NGT formed a joint committee on Oct 24 to verify the claims.
After multiple inspections, the committee submitted its report in two parts on March 31 and Aug 4, 2025.
Out of the 286 industrial units pointed out in the complaint, as many as 37, comprising 34 dyeing units and three electroplating units, were found to be operating either without consent to operate (CTO) or releasing chemical waste into the drain without any treatment.
Appearing before the tribunal, the committee informed that the power connection to 30 such units was disconnected by the distribution company, and similar action will be taken against the remaining seven in the presence of officials of the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board.

The joint committee found that the illegal units have not installed any effluent treatment plants (ETPs) for the treatment of wastewater generated from the dyeing and washing processes.
The untreated wastewater is being directly discharged into the Indirapuri drain through local drainage systems, which ultimately leads to the Yamuna River, causing serious environmental pollution.
The tribunal comprising chairperson justice Prakash Srivastava, judicial member justice Sudhir Agrawal, and expert member Dr A Senthil ruled that it has been pointed out that the issue of Indrapuri drain, which outflows in the river Yamuna, is under consideration along with the other drains in OA No. 6/2012 and that Ghaziabad DM will ensure that a proper time-bound action plan within three months
"He will ensure the preparation of such a time-bound action plan within three months from today and will submit an action taken report before the Registrar General of the Tribunal by email," the tribunal ruled while disposing of the matter.

Tensions flare in Indore after temple statues vandalised & thrown into Kanh river

Indore: Tensions prevailed near Sanjay Bridge in Indore after statues from a temple on the banks of the Kanh river were found uprooted and thrown into the water. The incident came to light on Saturday morning when locals arrived at the temple and found the statues missing. Upon learning of the incident, Bajrang Dal activists and locals began a search in the river, where they managed to retrieve some of the vandalised statues. The recovered statues were washed and cleaned by the community members. Following the discovery, the activists proceeded to Kotwali police station to demand that an FIR be registered. The protesters' anger was fuelled by the fact that this was not the first time the temple was targeted. Just a day earlier, on Friday, a similar incident occurred at a Lord Shiva temple on the banks of the river, where cattle remains were allegedly found. Kotwali station house officer Ravindra Parashar assured the protesters that the culprits would be apprehended within a week. The police have taken an application regarding the statues being thrown into the river and have launched an investigation. The repeated incidents of vandalism at the temple have left the local community deeply angered, demanding immediate action from the authorities. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "We have registered a case under section 299 (which deals with deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) and 331 (1) of BNS (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking). Ludhiana police civil department clerk conned in NRI marriage cyber scam.

Ludhiana: A Punjab Police civil department employee lost nearly ₹79 lakh after being tricked by a cyber fraudster who posed as an NRI suitor and proposed marriage, authorities said. Amarjit Kaur, a clerk posted at the DIG Ludhiana range office and resident of Pamal village, filed a complaint after realising she had been defrauded. She had advertised for marriage when a man claiming to be from England contacted her over WhatsApp, police said. According to her statement, the man introduced her to a woman posing as his mother and another as his sister to gain her trust. He later told her he was sending an expensive "shagun" gift that had been stopped at customs, demanding repeated payments to secure its release. Investigators said Kaur deposited funds five times, totalling ₹79 lakh, through accounts provided by the accused. When the man's phone was later switched off and no gift arrived, she reported the fraud to SSP Ludhiana Rural Ankur Gupta. The cyber crime police station has registered a case against unknown persons. Ghazipur gang running matrimonial fraud busted, 2 women held

Varanasi: A gang operating in Ghazipur, duping individuals from Rajasthan in the name of marriage, was busted when the targets grew suspicious and drove two women to Mirzamurad police station, on Saturday evening. Mirzamurad police station officer Pramod Pandey said on Sunday that, on the complaint of Bhanu Jaga, a resident of Rajgarh in Alwar district of Rajasthan, an FIR was lodged. Apart from the woman who posed as the bride, Puja, one of her accomplices, Kiran, was also arrested. Their other two accomplices, Nisha and Nandlal, managed to escape. According to police, Bhanu Jaga's family had been on the lookout for a bride for his brother Girish. Nandlal, a resident of Yusufpur, Jamnia (Ghazipur), came in contact with them on phone and offered to arrange the marriage for a consideration of Rs 1,80,000 and asked them to come to Ghazipur. Jaga's family arrived and handed over the money, after which one accused woman was introduced to them Puja and her wedding was solemnised with Girish at a hotel. Jaga and his brother got suspicious and told the driver to take the vehicle to the nearest police outpost. At the police station, Puja created a scene and claimed she was being abducted. When Jaga and his brother showed Mirzamurad police personnel a video of the rituals performed, it came to light that the two women belonged to a gang that duped bride-seekers from Rajasthan and other states. On being questioned by police, it was revealed that Puja's actual name was Rekha and she was mother of four children. Puja, Kiran and Nisha hail from Durgawati in Bihar. After the farewell of bride and groom, Nandlal and Nisha had boarded another vehicle to follow Jaga's SUV to ensure that when Puja and Kiran got off the vehicle, they would flee with the duo. But, as Jaga asked the driver to take another route to reach the police outpost, Nandlal failed to trace them. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
