Sonam Raghuvanshi, 24, was arrested in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, linked to her husband's murder.
Police allege she orchestrated the murder by hiring contract killers to eliminate Raja Raghuvanshi.
An old meme, "Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai," has resurfaced in connection with the murder case.
Sonam Raghuvanshi, 24, the missing wife of murdered Indore man Raja Raghuvanshi, 29, has been arrested in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, with the police claiming that she allegedly orchestrated the entire incident by hiring contract killers. Officials said they found Sonam in an unconscious state on Saturday night at a 'dhaba'. She was taken to the Ghazipur Medical College for treatment, where she surrendered before the police and was subsequently arrested.
In the aftermath of Sonam's arrest, an old internet meme trend has resurfaced, with social media users making the connection. The phrase Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai, translating to 'Sonam Gupta is unfaithful', first surfaced in August 2016 when a photo of a Rs 10 note with the said phrase written on it went viral on social media.
The note, believed to have been written by a jilted lover, was shared far and wide on social media, with others emulating it as well, leading to authorities issuing guidance to not soil the currency notes.
The identity of both the original spurned partner and the now infamous Sonam Gupta remain a mystery, with many believing she may not even exist. While the trend died, as is the case with most viral items, it caught life yet again when the Indian government announced demonetisation in November of the same year.
Nine years later, the trend has picked up pace, but this time, it is related to a grisly murder case where the accused, Sonam, may have plotted to kill her husband.
"Whosoever wrote this long ago was a visionary. Sonam has proved that she is bewafa. In the #Indorecouple case, Sonam Raghuwanshi has hired killers to get rid of his own husband," wrote one user, while another added: "Now I know why Sonam Bewafa hai was a meme a few years ago!!!"
A third commented: "I thought of this angle. Had a feeling that Sonam bewafa hai."

Police investigating
The newlywed couple, Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam, were visiting Cherrapunjee in the East Khasi Hills in Meghalaya for their honeymoon when they went missing on May 23. The couple arrived in Nongriat a day earlier and were last spotted checking out of Balaji Homestay. A scooter that they had rented was found abandoned at Sohrarim a day after they went missing.
It is believed that Sonam was having an extramarital affair with her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, that drove her to plot the murder. As per Vipul Raghuvanshi, Raja Raghuvanshi's brother, Raj was Sonam's employee, and they would speak on the phone a lot.

Is a pen drive at centre of SMC-CID clash?

Ahmedabad: The dust may just be beginning to settle over the clash between two Gujarat police units, State Monitoring Cell (SMC) and CID (Crime), last week. In the meantime, new details emerged, suggesting that a pen drive could be at the centre of the flashpoint between the two units. According to sources, two relatively junior officers walked into the office of CID (Crime) chief Parikshita Rathod — a DIG-rank officer from the state police service — and questioned her about pending applications with the department. Alongside those inquiries, the two junior officers reportedly asked about a pen drive linked to a project in Gandhinagar. The pen drive had reportedly been in CID custody long before Rathod assumed her post, and she is said to have denied any knowledge of it. "It is obvious that the contents of the pen drive hold immense value to some officers," said a source close to the development. It is learnt that top bosses in the state govt are upset and seek to get to the bottom of the entire episode. On Monday, minister of state for home Harsh Sanghavi held a meeting with all the cops involved in the operation, seeking an account of what transpired during last week. Sources say this is not the first time details were sought from the CID (Crime) office. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo While Rathod was on leave last week, a police team from a different department reportedly approached her office to seek details about some pending inquiries. Neither DGP Vikas Sahay nor SMC DIG Nirlipt Rai responded to queries regarding the incident. For the uninitiated, the matter traces back to a complaint filed by a Vadodara-based businessman over a Rs 15 crore fraud involving a foreign company. Dissatisfied with CID's response, he is believed to have sought help from a 2013-batch IPS officer, who informed DIG Rai, leading to the SMC's intervention. The confrontation peaked when two SMC constables questioned Rathod and a fellow officer in her office. Following objections from CID officials, the constables were asked to leave. The internal discord prompted emergency meetings and the suspension of a police sub-inspector.

400 sanitary workers arrested for holding road blockade protest in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: The city police on Tuesday arrested more than 400 contract sanitary workers of the Coimbatore corporation for blocking the State Bank Road while conducting a sit-in protest in front of the district collectorate. It was the second consecutive day of the protest. Garbage was not collected in many areas of the city in the last two days due to their protest. More than 3,700 sanitary workers, vehicle drivers and other cadres are working in the city municipal corporation on a contract basis. The corporation was paying their salaries through private contractors. The district administration has fixed a daily wage of Rs 770 for the temporary sanitary workers and other cadres, but the contractors allegedly failed to provide the amount to the sanitary workers. Sanitary workers boycotted work and staged a sit-in protest in front of the district collectorate on Monday morning. They demanded that district collector Pavankumar G Griyappanavar intervene in the issue immediately. On Tuesday morning, more than 400 sanitary workers gathered in front of the district collectorate and sat on the busy State Bank Road. They staged a road roko, and traffic was badly affected. The police held talks with them, but the protesters refused to disperse from the place. The police arrested more than 400 sanitary workers and taken them away from the protest venue in vehicles. The sanitary workers said they would intensify their protest if their demands were not met.

Gujarat court denies maintenance to woman who willingly resigned from job

Ahmedabad: A court turned down a woman's application seeking maintenance from her husband on the grounds that she had willingly resigned from her regular job. The JMFC court in Rajkot had first rejected the woman's request for maintenance in March 2023 because she was gainfully employed. Four months after this order, she resigned from her job and filed another application seeking maintenance, but the court dismissed the second application as well. The couple engaged in the legal battle got married in 2017. While the woman is from Rajkot, the husband lives in Gandhinagar. The woman, who is a PhD holder, got a job as an assistant professor in a Gandhinagar college. The couple lived together for eight months, and marital discord began, resulting in the woman filing multiple litigations against her husband and an FIR against him and the in-laws. She sought interim maintenance from her husband, claiming that he was earning Rs 1.50 lakh per month. The husband established that his salary was Rs 66,000, while the wife was earning Rs 31,000 per month. He also claimed that his wife was a careerist, and she did not want a child, and therefore left her matrimonial home. Moreover, the woman had several FDs in her name, and she admitted that she had no other liability. Four months after the court rejected the woman's application for interim maintenance, she voluntarily resigned from her job and filed another application on the grounds that she was unemployed and did not have any regular income. After perusing the resignation letter and relieving order, the court said, "The applicant left her job willingly. She holds a high degree and was getting a good salary of Rs 31,000 in this job… Considering all the circumstances, it does not appear proper to grant the applicant's application at this stage. A final decision on her application will be taken after the final hearing by considering all the evidence."
