3 fours in 1 over and OUT: Vaibhav Suryavanshi fails to fire in 1st Youth Test vs England
NEW DELHI: He arrived with intent, played a few crisp strokes, found the boundary rope early, and was then sent back — that summed up Vaibhav Suryavanshi's outing in the opening match of the Youth Test series against England Under-19s.
Coming off a stellar run in the Youth ODIs, the young batter showed flashes of his talent but couldn't turn his promising start into a meaningful score.
Walking in with confidence, the right-hander immediately made his presence felt, cracking three boundaries in the very first over — all off England pacer James Minto — briefly putting the hosts under pressure.

But just as he looked to settle, England's Alex Green delivered the breakthrough.
Vaibhav was dismissed for 14 off 13 balls — a short but eventful innings marked by three boundaries and a strike rate of 107.69.
Caught by Ralphie Albert off Green's bowling, the early dismissal was a setback for the 14-year-old, who had hoped to carry his white-ball momentum into the red-ball format.
However, with one innings still potentially to come, Suryavanshi may get another opportunity to make his mark in the longer format.

India U-19, meanwhile, failed to finish on a high, losing the fifth Youth ODI by seven wickets. They had already sealed the five-match series 3-1 with a 55-run win in the fourth game.

Nothing can separate England and India as 3rd test turns feisty at Lord's
LONDON: Three days in and nothing can separate England and India in a tightly fought and increasingly feisty third test at Lord's. Replying to England's 387 all out, India was dismissed for exactly the same total 15 minutes before the end of play at the home of cricket on Saturday. It was only the ninth time in nearly 150 years of test cricket that the scores were level after the first innings. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Top 25 Most Beautiful Women In The World Articles Vally Undo England closed on 2-0 after just one over of the second innings - played to a backdrop of needle and spiciness, with the India team angry that openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley tried every stalling tactic possible to reduce the number of balls bowled. Things got heated, especially between Crawley and India captain Shubman Gill as they squared up to each other. The test effectively boils down to a one-innings match. The series is also locked at 1-1. Live Events "You toil away for three days and you sit here with a two-run lead," England bowling coach Tim Southee said. "Looking forward to a two-day shootout." Lokesh Rahul was India's top scorer with exactly 100, before losing his wicket off his very next ball soon after lunch when he edged spinner Shoaib Bashir to Harry Brook at slip. Ravindra Jadeja added a vital 72 to go with a typically entertaining knock of 76 by Rishabh Pant , who was run out brilliantly by England captain Ben Stokes off what proved to be the last ball of the morning session. Pant was looking for a quick single to give Rahul - on 98 at the time - the strike in the final over before lunch. Nitish Kumar Reddy (30) and Washington Sundar (23) chipped in with decent lower-order contributions. Finger-pointing at the finish Duckett and Crawley ambled to the middle for a very brief start to England's second innings and, with shadows lengthening, began their stalling tactics that ultimately worked. The Indians managed just one over - from star bowler Jasprit Bumrah - when they could maybe have forced three. India's players, especially Gill, were livid and much of their ire was directed at Crawley, who held up Bumrah by saying there was movement behind the bowler's arm and again when he took some time to recover from being hit on the glove. The Indians surrounded Crawley, who barked back, and there was plenty of finger-pointing before the teams walked off the field, with the sledging continuing. England players were seen laughing up on the balcony outside their dressing room. "I understand, from an opening batter's point of view, it's something that happens a lot," Rahul said of what he described as "theatrics" at the end of play. It remains to be seen if India's players are still as fired up at the start of Day 4, with the late-day drama lighting up what had been an attritional test match until that point. Injury to Bashir Bashir, England's frontline spinner, had to go off the field with an injury to the little finger on his left hand, sustained after lunch off his own bowling when he stopped a fierce shot down the ground from Jadeja. The spinner didn't reappear for the rest of the innings and was facing further assessment after stumps.

IND vs ENG: Six ducks in seven innings! Jasprit Bumrah's batting woes continue at Lord's
India's Jasprit Bumrah (AP Photo) Jasprit Bumrah might be the spearhead of India's bowling attack, but his form with the bat has taken a dramatic nosedive. In the ongoing third Test at Lord's, the pace ace recorded his sixth duck in seven innings, further highlighting a woeful run that continues to haunt India's lower order. Coming in at No. 10 during India's first innings, Bumrah lasted just eight deliveries before edging a Chris Woakes delivery, departing for a duck yet again. It marked his third consecutive zero in this series against England, adding to a string of poor scores dating back to the Australia tour earlier this year. Since the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne in December 2024, Bumrah's scores read: 0, 0, 22, 0, 0, 0, 0. The only bright spot — a gritty 22 in Sydney — feels like a distant memory amid a sea of single-digit collapses. Poll What should be Bumrah's priority in the next match? Focus on bowling Improve batting Both equally In three innings against England alone, Bumrah has scored 0, 0, and 0 — a rare and unwanted statistical streak for any batter. While Bumrah's primary job is to lead India's bowling unit, and he did so with distinction, claiming 5 for 74 in England's first innings, the lack of resistance with the bat at the tail end is increasingly problematic, especially in tight contests like the one currently unfolding at Lord's. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like She's 75 and Retiring - Her Handcrafted Jewelry Is 80% OFF The Heritage Journal Read More Undo India were eventually bowled out for 387, matching England's first-innings total exactly, only the ninth such occurrence in Test cricket history. Bumrah's dismissal left India with no chance to build even a slender lead before the end of Day 3. The Test is now delicately poised, with England at 2/0 in their second innings and all to play for. But for Bumrah, a return to even minimal batting form could prove crucial in a low-scoring finish.
