Man who claimed to have been abducted at gunpoint in Ottawa Valley now charged with public mischief
Police say the investigation began March 17, when a delivery driver said he had encountered a man and a woman in Brundell-Lyndoch-Raglan Township, approximately 70 kilometres west of Renfrew. He said they had a gun and held him against his will, driving along several streets before they got out of the van and ran away.
Officers could not find the two suspects.
Police said Friday an in-depth investigation determined the man's claims were false.
The 30-year-old is now facing a public mischief charge and is due in court in Pembroke on July 7.

An anesthesiologist from a Surrey, B.C., pain clinic has been charged with sexually assaulting a female patient. Update: Dr. Olumuyiwa Bamgbade was found not guilty on this charge by a judge on Aug. 8, 2025. A 54-year-old anesthesiologist from a Surrey, B.C., pain clinic has been charged with sexually assaulting a patient, and authorities are asking anyone with 'additional information' to come forward. Authorities said the alleged assault happened on July 18, while a woman was undergoing a physical exam at a clinic on 152A Street near 66 Avenue. The B.C. Prosecution Service approved one count of sexual assault against Dr. Olumuyiwa Bamgbade earlier this month, following an investigation by the Surrey RCMP Special Victims Unit. The RCMP released an image of Bamgbade on Wednesday, in what Cpl. Vanessa Munn said was an 'attempt to further the ongoing investigation.' 'We believe that there are likely people in our community who have additional information and we encourage them to reach out to investigators,' Munn said in a news release. The doctor has been released on conditions including that he can only see female patients if 'in the immediate and continuous physical presence of a female chaperone over 19 years of age.' He also must display a notice in his office and in every examination room detailing the chaperone requirement. Authorities said Bamgbade has been operating the Surrey pain clinic since October 2021, and previously practiced in neighbouring Delta. Surrey RCMP asked anyone with information to call the detachment at 604-599-0502.

Driver facing impaired charges after calling police to alleged hit-and-run
A driver from Grand Bend has been charged after Brant County Ontario Provincial Police were called to a hit-and-run on Highway 403 near the Paris Road off-ramp. Officers said it happened around 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 15. They were told the driver of a white Honda Civic hit another vehicle and then took off. While speaking with the complainant, officers said they noticed signs of potential impairment. The driver was asked to take a roadside breath test, which they failed. The driver, a 41-year-old man from Grand Bend, was charged with impaired operation and failure or refusal to comply with demand.
