Edmonton weather: Cool, cloudy and wet
Daytime highs have been in the 20s for all of the first twelve days of August. But, that streak is about to end.
Afternoon highs will be in the 16 to 19 C range today, tomorrow and Friday.
Temperatures should return to the low to mid 20s through the weekend and next week. But, we're kicking off a short cool spell today.
There were a few scattered showers in the Edmonton region early this morning and we'll get some steadier rain starting mid-morning and that should stick around for a few hours.
We'll stay cloudy through the afternoon, but the precipitation should 'back off' to occasional showers. That heavier, steadier rain will move off into eastern Alberta this afternoon.
There might be a few embedded thunderstorms in the Edmonton region at some point today. But, it's mainly east-central Alberta that we'll be keeping an eye on for the potential for severe thunderstorms.
Areas from around Drumheller northeast towards Lloydminster/Wainwright could see storms with torrential downpours, large hail, damaging wind gusts and there's a tornado risk, as well.
The low-pressure system making it's way across the province today should exit off to the east by Thursday. We'll probably still see some showers in northeastern Alberta Thursday and maybe even a few scattered showers early in the day for the Edmonton region.
But, skies should be clearing through the afternoon.
We won't stay sunny for long, though. We'll get a few more waves of showers sweeping across the province late Friday and again late Saturday.
