Real Madrid dealt fresh injury blow
This comes amid confirmation that defensive star David Alaba has suffered a setback in his ongoing efforts to recover from injury.

Stopper Alaba has for his part been sidelined since back in April, after his long-awaited return from an ACL injury was followed first by an adductor problem, and then a meniscus issue in his left knee.
The Austrian had spent recent weeks closing on a return to the pitch, with a view to making himself available for pre-season training.
As alluded to above, however, this weekend, such hopes on Alaba's part have been dashed.
This comes amid confirmation on the part of the reliable Arancha Rodríguez of COPE that the former Bayern Munich man has picked up yet another injury:
'Alaba will be sidelined for another month due to a muscle injury in the soleus of the left leg.'

Son draws fans to airport as LAFC calls Wednesday news conference
South Korean star Son Heung-min has not even been officially announced as joining Los Angeles FC of MLS, but excited fans are already waiting to welcome him. ESPN and The Athletic report that Son, who left Tottenham Hotspur last weekend, will sign with LAFC for an MLS-record transfer fee of $26 million. LAFC on Tuesday night announced a news conference for a "major announcement" on Wednesday at 2 pm local time (2100 GMT) that would seem to be the unveiling of Son. After press reports about Son's possible arrival on Tuesday at Los Angeles International Airport, about 40 fans of Son went to see if they could get an autograph or photograph or even a glimpse of their idol. They were unable to see Son, however, after his sendoff in South Korea a few hours earlier. "Son is immensely important to me. I used to wake up at five or six in the morning to watch him play in England," Jun Kwon, a 19-year-old fan, told AFP. "He's going to change things here. My father and I, who had no interest in MLS, are already won over." He was wearing a gold and black LAFC jersey purchased Tuesday morning and printed with his idol's name. In a decade with Spurs, Son scored 173 goals in 454 matches. The winger confirmed his plans to leave Tottenham in Seoul last weekend after a final match with the Premier League club. At LAFC, Son will replace French striker Olivier Giroud, who was sold to Lille in July, and will share a dressing room with French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, his former teammate at Tottenham. bi-rg/gbv/js/jgc

Rugby Australia relaxes 'redundant' limit on foreign-based players
Rugby Australia has signalled that more overseas-based players will be allowed to represent the Wallabies, shifting away from a strict policy that has heavily favoured domestic players. The so-called "Giteau Law" -- named after former fly-half Matt Giteau -- has for years put restrictions on overseas-based players being selected for the Wallabies. But with Test stars such as lock Will Skelton, flanker Tom Hooper and prop Taniela Tupou all joining an exodus to Europe, Rugby Australia has indicated the Giteau Law has been dropped. That gives head coach Joe Schmidt a free selection hand when he names his squad for the Rugby Championship this week. "Joe's got no impediment to select whoever he wants," Rugby Australia head of high performance Peter Horne said. "The Giteau Law, it's kind of redundant right," Horne added in comments reported by Schmidt is due to name his squad Thursday for the Rugby Championship which begins this month. Scrapping the rule would also benefit incoming head coach Les Kiss, who takes over the Wallabies next year tasked with preparing for the Rugby World Cup on home soil in 2027. The Giteau Law was adopted by the Wallabies in 2015, allowing overseas-based players to represent the side only if they had played 60 Tests for Australia and seven seasons of Super Rugby. It enabled players such as Matt Giteau, who was then starring for Toulon, to be picked for the 2015 Rugby World Cup. Before then, Australia had a blanket ban on overseas-based players representing the Wallabies. sft/dh

Max Muncy makes triumphant return for Dodgers amid Tommy Edman injury concerns
The post Max Muncy makes triumphant return for Dodgers amid Tommy Edman injury concerns appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Los Angeles Dodgers got a much-needed boost Monday night as veteran slugger Max Muncy returned to the lineup after a month-long stint on the injured list. His comeback comes at a critical time, with versatile infielder/outfielder Tommy Edman expected to be sidelined once again due to a recurring ankle injury. 'He's back!' the Dodgers announced on X, revealing Muncy's name in the starting lineup at third base for the series opener against the St. Louis Cardinals at Dodger Stadium. Muncy, who had been out since July 3 with a bone bruise in his left knee, was reinstated from the 60-day IL just hours before first pitch and slotted back into his usual spot at the hot corner. Meanwhile, Edman's absence casts a shadow over the Dodgers' infield depth. The 30-year-old utility man re-aggravated the same right ankle that forced him out of action earlier this season — this time while rounding first base during Sunday's win over the Tampa Bay Rays. It was eerily similar to an incident last week against the Red Sox, where he limped off under nearly identical circumstances. Max Muncy makes his Dodger return amid Tommy Edman injury 'It's a recurrence of what he's been dealing with,' manager Dave Roberts said postgame. 'I just don't see how it's not an IL [trip].' Roberts indicated that Muncy's return made the roster move a 'natural' one-for-one swap. Edman, who's slashing .226/.280/.395 with 12 home runs and 44 RBIs through 85 games, has struggled to regain his early-season form since his lower-body injuries started piling up. While his bat hasn't been hot, his ability to play multiple positions — including second base, shortstop, and all three outfield spots — has made him an invaluable piece for the Dodgers, especially with injuries already limiting Hyeseong Kim and Kike Hernandez. With Edman likely IL-bound, the Dodgers will lean on Miguel Rojas and Alex Freeland to share duties at second base. Rojas got the nod Monday night and hit ninth in the lineup, while Muncy returned to the five-hole behind Will Smith. The Dodgers' lineup otherwise remained intact, with Shohei Ohtani leading off as the designated hitter and Mookie Betts again batting second despite his recent slump. Tyler Glasnow took the mound for Los Angeles, coming in with a 2.45 ERA in his last four starts since returning from the IL. He faced off against Cardinals ace Sonny Gray, who shut out the Dodgers over 6.1 innings back in June. While Muncy's bat provides some much-needed pop, Edman's absence will still be felt — especially on defense and in late-game versatility. The Dodgers are hoping Edman's time away is short, but with two injuries to the same ankle in the span of a week, caution will be key heading into the final playoff push.
