India hails Shubhanshu Shukla's historic spaceflight with widespread praise

India Todaya day ago
With Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla's safe return to Earth after his groundbreaking voyage to the International Space Station (ISS), leaders from across India's scientific and space communities have lauded the mission as a critical precursor to India's human space exploration goals, most notably the upcoming Gaganyaan mission and long-term ambitions of lunar expeditions.Shukla, who became the first Indian to visit the ISS, spent 18 days in space as part of the multinational Axiom-4 (Ax-4) mission, conducting over 60 scientific experiments, including seven designed and coordinated by Isro and Indian research institutions.advertisementPraising his contributions, Lt. Gen. AK Bhatt (retd.), Director General of the Indian Space Association (ISpA), said, 'We congratulate Axiom and Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla on completing a successful mission. This achievement is a stepping stone for India's future crewed space journeys, including the Gaganyaan mission and our ambitious goal of landing an Indian on the Moon by 2040. It will support Isro and energize both global and Indian private space industries.'
Echoing the sentiment, astrophysicist Somak Raychaudhury, Vice Chancellor of Ashoka University, stated, 'This mission is not just a step forward – it is a giant leap in translating ambition into capability... The insights gained will be vital as we prepare for Gaganyaan in 2027, an Indian space station by 2035, and a Moon landing by 2040. It's a foundation for capability-driven space exploration.'Dr. Subba Rao Pavuluri, CMD of Ananth Technologies, emphasised the scientific success of the mission, 'Group Capt Shubhanshu Shukla successfully completed all seven Indian-designed experiments, including studies on tardigrades, muscle cell growth, and crop germination. This mission is a precursor to our own Gaganyaan mission, aligning with the vision of Viksit Bharat where planetary exploration is driven by experimentation.'Adding to the chorus, Anil Prakash, Director General of SIA-India, celebrated the mission's biotech impact, 'This mission launches India into the space-biotech frontier. It showcases the power of public–private partnerships—featuring Isro, SpaceX, Axiom Space, Skyroot—and sets the stage for sustainable, orbit-based life-support systems.'As India steps into a new era of human spaceflight, Shubanshu Shukla's mission is being hailed as a defining launchpad for India's future among the stars.- EndsTune InMust Watch

'Holding family in arms felt like home': Shubhanshu Shukla's emotional reunion with family in Houston

Shubhanshu Shukla has etched his name in history as the first Indian to orbit aboard the International Space Station and only the second Indian to venture into space, following Rakesh Sharma's 1984 mission read more Emotional images of Indian astronaut Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla reuniting with his family following Tuesday's (July 15) splashdown have emerged on social media. Shukla, who just completed 1an 8-day journey aboard the International Space Station (ISS) and became the first Indian to do so, was greeted by his family at a designated facility in Houston. Kamna, Shubhanshu Shukla's mother, wrapped her arms around him in a tearful embrace, overcome with emotion as she reunited with her son. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Shukla then scooped up his four-year-old son, who had been with him in the US, in a heartfelt hug. It was the first time the astronaut had seen his family in nearly two months, having been in quarantine for over a month before the launch. Shukla, in his Instagram post, mentioned how it was challenging for him to stay away from family, and that reuniting 'felt like home'. 'It was challenging. Coming back to Earth and holding my family back in my arms felt like home. Find a loved one today and tell them that you love them. We often get busy in life and forget how important the people in our lives are. Human spaceflight missions are magical but they are made magical by the humans,' wrote Shukla. The quarantine, initially set for 15 days, kept extending, making the reunion even more emotional. Shubhanshu Shukla has etched his name in history as the first Indian to orbit aboard the International Space Station and only the second Indian to venture into space, following Rakesh Sharma's 1984 mission. Affectionately nicknamed 'Shux' by his crewmates, Shukla undocked from the ISS on Monday afternoon (India time) and returned to Earth after a 22-hour journey aboard SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD During his time in orbit, Shukla contributed to a range of international scientific experiments in biology, materials science, and artificial intelligence. His work on the Sprouts Project, which explores plant growth in microgravity, could pave the way for sustainable farming in space, marking a significant step for future space missions.

Subhanshu Shukla's Earth Reentry Captured In Stunning Dragon Capsule Video

Last Updated: The capsule's fiery plasma trail appears to streak across the heavens, a slow-motion shooting star descending toward the ocean's surface A stunning video of astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla's Dragon capsule re-entering Earth off the coast of California has been captured and widely shared across social media. The clip, shot from Marin County, California, shows the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft piercing the twilight sky like a glowing comet before splashing into the Pacific Ocean. Shared on X by space enthusiast Scott Manley, the footage was quickly picked up and reposted by Axiom Space official handle. Axiom 4 Reentry from Marin county: — Scott Manley (@DJSnM) July 15, 2025 Manley's caption simply read, 'Axiom 4 Reentry from Marin County." With 1.79 million YouTube subscribers and over half a million X followers, his stunning visuals of the Axiom-4 mission reentry have reached a vast audience. He later shared another version filmed from the International Space Station, writing, 'is this the longest tracking shot in history with the camera moving at 5miles a second?" Shukla and his three fellow astronauts of the Axiom-4 mission concluded an 18-day stay aboard the International Space Station (ISS) and embarked on their return journey. The Dragon capsule 'Grace" undocked from the ISS on Monday at 4:45 pm IST (2:15 am PDT), and carried the crew safely back toward Earth. SpaceX had scheduled the de-orbit burn for 2:07 pm IST over the Pacific Ocean, followed by the release of the spacecraft's trunk and heat shield orientation at 2:26 pm IST. Atmospheric entry brought fierce heat—reaching nearly 1,600 °C—before four parachutes deployed in stages: stabilising chutes at about 5.7 km altitude, followed by main parachutes at roughly 2 km, resulting in a dramatic splashdown around 3:01 pm IST (2:31 am PDT). This mission marked a historic milestone for India, Poland, and Hungary, sending astronauts from all three countries to space after several decades. Shukla also became the second Indian to travel to space, following Rakesh Sharma's landmark journey in 1984.
