Jason Segel hails Shrinking co-star Michael J. Fox
Michael J. Fox has been a "huge inspiration" for Jason Segel.
The 63-year-old actor stars alongside Jason, 45, in the Apple TV series 'Shrinking', and Jason has relished the experience of working with one of his idols.
Jason - who starred on 'How I Met Your Mother' from 2005 until 2014 - told People: "I got the chance to tell him that he was a huge inspiration to me while I was in a weirdly similar situation doing 'How I Met Your Mother' and movies at the same time and being tired.
"We always would talk about Michael J. Fox and what he was doing with 'Back to the Future' and 'Family Ties' at the same time. He's an idol for sure."
Bill Lawrence, the co-creator of 'Shrinking', previously revealed that Michael served as the inspiration for the comedy-drama series.
The 56-year-old producer explained that Michael's journey with Parkinson's disease inspired Harrison Ford's on-screen character, who is also battling the neurodegenerative disease.
Bill - who previously worked with Michael on 'Spin City' - told People: "It's cool to get to write about things you care about now. And Michael J. Fox is my first mentor. So we wanted to represent it in hopefully an inspiring and not sad or tragic way."
Bill has been amazed by how Michael has coped with his health struggles.
He shared: "I found the first mentor in my life and career, Michael J. Fox, to be so inspiring with the way he took it in stride and continues to work harder than anybody I know. And we want to kind of carry that spirit if we can into the show."
Meanwhile, Michael previously admitted that his meteoric rise "made no sense" to him.
The actor - who moved from Canada to the US at the age of 18 - initially struggled to find work in Hollywood, but he ultimately shot to international stardom as Marty McFly in the 'Back to the Future' franchise.
He told 'Entertainment Tonight': "I was dumpster diving because I knew the grocery store would throw baked goods out. We'd steal jam and peanut butter from the IHOP or Denny's. It was a tough existence.
"But in a relatively short period of time I was famous and I was the biggest movie star in the world ... It was crazy. It made no sense."

Katrina Bowden is pregnant. The '30 Rock' actress and her musician husband, Adam Taylor, 33, are expecting their first child together and Katrina, 36, says the pregnancy has brought them even closer. She told PEOPLE: 'It definitely has brought us closer together. In the beginning, it was a little bit scary, and it's still a little bit scary because it's something so unknown and so different. It brought us closer together talking about how we want to parent, names, just preparing for something that we've never had to think about before, so it's definitely bonded us in a way that we've never bonded before." Katrina discovered she was pregnant while Adam was away on a ski trip with friends, because she was so excited she couldn't wait to take the test. She explained: "Adam was on a ski trip with his friends, and I took a test. I was going to wait until he got home, but I couldn't wait," she shares. "Then, I told him when he got home, and we were both very excited, so ... I was really hard to keep it to myself for a full day. "We had just started trying, so we didn't expect it to happen so fast. It was really surprising and exciting. [Taylor] was very excited and immediately wanted to tell everybody." And, the couple are already making travel plans for when the baby arrives. Katrina said: 'We really plan to, in the beginning [during] the first year, try to travel just to get the baby used to being in new places and around different environments. We want to try to do a big trip or a good, fun vacation type of trip, the two of us with the baby, and then just immerse the baby in something new and something different and different experiences." The couple tied the knot in Hawaii in November 2024.

Taylor Swift now owns her master recordings 'in spite of Scooter Braun, not because of him'. The 35-year-old singer / songwriter revealed in an emotional open letter to fans on her website that she had recently bought back the rights to her first six albums, which Braun acquired from her former record label, Big Machine Records, in 2019. In 2020, Braun went on to sell them to private equity firm Shamrock Capital and although it was recently claimed the music manager had 'encouraged' Shamrock Capital to make a deal with Taylor, he was not involved in the recent acquisition. A source told PEOPLE: 'Contrary to a previous false report, there was no outside party who 'encouraged' this sale. All rightful credit for this opportunity should go to the partners at Shamrock Capital and Taylor's Nashville-based management team only. Taylor now owns all of her music, and this moment finally happened in spite of Scooter Braun, not because of him.' After Scooter bought the rights to her music, Taylor decided to re-record her previous albums, calling them 'Taylor's Version'. And, she revealed in her message to fans that the huge success of her 'Eras' tour and the new versions of her albums, actually helped her to buy back her music. She wrote: "To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it. To my fans, you know how important this has been to me - so much so that I meticulously re-recorded and released 4 of my albums, calling them Taylor's Version. The passionate support you showed those albums and the success story you turned The Eras Tour into is why I was able to buy back my music. I can't thank you enough for helping to reunite me with this art that I have dedicated my life to, but have never owned until now.
