PMK founder Ramadoss seeks ban on Anbumani's upcoming padayatra
Speaking to reporters at his Thailapuram residence near Tindivanam on Thursday (July 24, 2025), Mr. Ramadoss said the police should prevent Mr. Anbumani from taking out the padayatra (scheduled to be held from July 25) across the State as it would give rise to law and order issues in north Tamil Nadu.
He also sought police intervention to prevent anyone from using the PMK flag during the yatra. Mr. Ramadoss reiterated that his name should not be used by his son in any context, though he may use his initial.
Mr. Ramadoss said he had assumed charge as 'party president' on May 30, 2025. The executive and administrative committees were revamped and the list of office-bearers, including the honorary president, treasurer, and general secretary have been furnished with the Election Commission of India (ECI).
'I have duly appointed office-bearers to run the party and if anyone prevents them from doing their duties or falsely claims to be office-bearers, they will referred to the Disciplinary Action Committee and expelled from the party,' he said.
Referring to the alleged planting of a bugging device beneath his chair at his residence, Mr. Ramadoss said it was the most obnoxious development in Tamil Nadu, the kind of which was never experienced by any leader in the State.
The PMK founder said he had information that the bugging device was imported from the United Kingdom, and is also said to be available in Bengaluru. He wanted the police to expedite the probe into the case.

Madurai: It has been barely ten days since C Kavin Selva Ganesh was hacked to death in a caste murder in Tirunelveli, but a simple search online will throw up anonymous social media posts with casteist undertones in Tamil supporting the accused Surjith. If outfits promoting their caste's history/culture used to be within closed communities before, it has now taken another form in the digital space. It is in this context that south zone police, through cyber crime police and social media cell, have intensified crackdown on those sharing, promoting casteist content and making such provocative comments on social media platforms. Prem Anand Sinha, inspector general of police (IG), south zone, told TOI that they have arrested 136 people this year across the zone who were involved in posting objectionable casteist and communal content on Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter). "The social media cell is monitoring the content on social media by links that get circulated and gain traction, and searching for hashtags and initiating action," he said. Objectionable casteist content can include anything from hate speech against a particular caste or community to displaying weapons or making certain gestures to showcase the 'pride' of a particular caste, the IG said. According to official data, a total of 119 cases have been registered in 2025 across 10 southern districts, including Tirunelveli city, for objectionable casteist/communal posts on social media platforms. A vast majority of 79 cases were registered just in Tirunelveli district limits alone. It was a sizable increase compared to last year when only 33 cases were booked in the district. "Once we find objectionable casteist content, we can take steps to deactivate/block the account by making a request to the particular social media platform. Steps are also taken to delete/remove any inappropriate videos with casteist content," added Sinha. The cases are generally registered under sections 147, 352, and 353 of BNS, for promoting enmity between different groups, intentional insult, and statements conducing to public mischief. Activists meanwhile called for creating more awareness and sensitization among youths, particularly at school and college levels. "Caste violence is alarmingly being perpetrated by more youngsters than those of older age groups, particularly in districts like Tirunelveli. The need of the hour is a comprehensive caste sensitisation programme," said R Murali, state president, People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), Tamil Nadu. Around 10 students in each college of different castes can be picked as ambassadors and activities such as debates, watching documentary screenings, book readings can be organised regularly to promote harmony and give them exposure to different perspectives, he said.

Stalin woos youth, says DMK govt working for their uplift
Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin made a strong pitch to woo youth towards DMK in the upcoming assembly elections. He announced govt would start giving laptops to college students, countering AIADMK's charges of DMK halting the free laptop scheme. "Youth are the foundation of Tamil society. Primary goal of the Dravidian model govt is to enable growth of youth. This govt is for the youth," Stalin said on Wednesday after distributing appointment orders to around 2,300 youth recruited through state municipal administration department. "Since education alone is not enough, govt is creating job opportunities as well," Stalin said, adding that more than one lakh youth were given jobs through TNPSC, TRB and TNUSB, more than three lakh jobs were provided through Naan Mudhalvan scheme while another 2.65 lakh got employment through job fairs organised by labour department. "Schemes such as Naan Mudhalvan mainly attract students from economically disadvantaged groups. These programmes targeting youth are helping the party consolidate its base," he said. However, professor and economist Krishna Raj said the job figures required closer scrutiny. "Filling one lakh govt vacancies is good. But where are the remaining jobs that were created? If these are in the industrial or informal sector, they may lack social security, insurance or benefits," he said.

Man guns down 25 dogs, animal activists outraged
1 2 Jhunjhunu: A gruesome incident in Kumawas village, located in the Nawalgarh area of Jhunjhunu district, has sparked outrage by animal activists after at least two individuals were filmed shooting and killing more than 25 dogs. The horrific act was committed on Aug 2 and 3 but it wasn't until a video surfaced on social media on Wednesday that local police acted. The video footage shows two individuals on a motorcycle chasing and firing at stray dogs with a gun, leaving their bodies scattered across village streets and fields. Another person on a second bike is partially seen in the same video following and filming the duo on the first bike. It was unclear if the individual on second bike was complicit in the crime. Preliminary police probe later identified one of the accused as Shyochand Bavariya, a resident of Dumra village. Local police have registered a case against Bavariya under multiple sections of the Animal Cruelty Act and the Arms Act. The incident has sparked outrage among animal lovers and local residents, who are calling for strict action against the perpetrators. Superintendent of Police, Jhunjhunu, Brijesh Jyoti Upadhyay confirmed the video's authenticity and dispatched head constable Shubhkaran to the village for further investigation. "We are aware of the video showing a person shooting at dogs in Kumawas village. Immediate steps were taken to investigate the matter," Upadhyay said.
