EarFun's New Clip Open-Ear Wireless Earbuds Combine Comfort with Great Sound

Geek Dad2 days ago
There are all types of earbuds and earphones for a variety of purposes. Some cover the ear while others go inside the ear. However, one style I I like to use are the open-ear earbuds. EarFun, a brand I currently use and one which my son-in-law swears by, has recently released its latest product, which provides quality sound and without resting inside the ear, does not go over the top of the ear, and is available at a reasonable price. Listen to your favorite media with the new EarFun Clip open-ear wireless earbuds. What Is the EarFun Clip?
The EarFun Clip wireless earbuds connect via Bluetooth to your smartphone or other electronic devices. These earbuds can play for up to 10 hours before needing to recharge. The Clip earbuds have a suggested retail price of $69.99 and are currently available from the EarFun store on Amazon. EarFun is also offering GeekDad readers a 20% discount with the coupon on the page as well as this code EFCPPR01, making the final price only $52.49! What's in the Box?

It is very easy to use the Clip open-ear wireless earbuds. Turn on your device's Bluetooth, open the charging case, pull out the earbuds and remove the insulating film, then return the earbuds to the case. Depending on your device, select EarFun Clip and the earbuds connect. In the future, as long as you are using the same device, turning on the headphones will automatically connect to your device. You can even connect the earbuds to a second device at the same time. For example, I connected them to both my iPhone as well as my laptop. I could use my laptop for a zoom meeting or to watch a video and then answer my phone without having to reconnect from one device to the other.
The EarFun Clip is worn differently from most other earbuds. The left earbud has a silver ring while the right earbud has a red ring. To wear them, place the ball-shaped speaker over the ear canal while the pad reaches around the outside of the ear. This places the speaker right on the outside of the ear canal without being insides like most earbuds. The Clip earbuds clip to the lower ear and are very comfortable to wear. Each earbud has a single button on the top of the pad. Pressing the button on either one twice will play or pause the music or media. A single tap on the right or left earbuds will increase or decrease the volume respectively. Pressing the button on the right earbud 3 times will advance to the next track while pressing the button on the left earbud 3 times goes back to the previous track. Pressing and holding either button will activate the voice assistant, and pressing the button on either earbud twice will answer or end a call.
The earbuds can be charged by placing them in the charging case. They take 60 minutes for a complete charge. The charging case charges completely in 2 hours when using the USB-C cable or within 3.5 hours when using a wireless charger. The earbuds can play up to 10 hours and when including charging from the case without it being recharged, the total play time is 40 hours. The Clip airbuds recharge and store right in the case. The EarFun Audio App can be downloaded for free from the App Store or the Google Play store. The app provides more options. Game mode can be activated within the app which decreases latency to less than 50 ms. You can use the equalizer to select between default sound, preset equalizer with 10 different presets for different types of music as well as bass and treble, or use the custom equalizer to create your own style. You can also set your own sound profile where the app tests your hearing at different frequencies to create a custom setting to ensure you can hear all ranges of sound at the right volume. Theater mode widens the soundstage, providing an immersive surround sound experience while disabling the equalizer. The app also allows you to update the firmware for the earbuds and even customize the controls for each earbud and what different number of taps will activate. Finally, the app includes a find earbud feature that sends a loud sound to the earbuds to help you find them if they have been misplaced. Why You Should Get the EarFun Clip
The EarFun Clip open-ear wireless earbuds have impressive sound. They are Hi-Res audio certified and support the LDAC audio codec. The sound quality is provided by 10.8 mm carbon fiber composite dynamic drivers, which recreate deep, rhythmic bass as well as penetrating treble. They also work great for taking calls or using them during a virtual meeting. The earbuds have 2 microphones which use an AI algorithm noise cancelling technology for clear calls. Finally, these earbuds are very lightweight, each weighing only 5.7 grams. Close-up view of the Clip earbuds. Image courtesy of EarFun.
I like to listen to music or podcasts while I am working in the yard or going for a walk. Since the Clip earbuds don't fit inside the ear, I can still hear what is going on around me and with a click of the button on either earbud, I can pause the program and then restart it as needed. These earbuds are extremely comfortable, which is important when wearing them for longer periods of time. Unlike other outside-the-ear earbuds which have a hook that goes over the ear, I can wear the Clip while also wearing either sunglasses or reading glasses without any issues.
Podcasts, programs and music played through the Clip also sound great. When testing out sound devices, I usually turn to Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture as a great test of their ability, and the earbuds performed well. However I also wanted to try out the theater mode so thought I would try the official motion picture soundtrack from Wicked . It sounded like I was in the theater watching the movie. The app really does a great job letting users set up their earbuds as they wish. I like the ability to select from many different equalizer presets in the app so the settings are customized for various types of music. I have always been impressed with EarFun's earbuds and headphones and have even given them as gifts to family members. They all love them. I recommend the EarFun Clip wireless earbuds for those who are looking for a comfortable device that produces great sound quality for an affordable price. Check out their online store.

Tesla signs US$4.3 billion LGES battery deal, source says, reducing China reliance

An electric plug decal is seen on the back of a Tesla electric car in Trenton, N.J. (AP / Mel Evans) SEOUL — South Korea's LG Energy Solution (LGES) has signed a US$4.3 billion deal to supply Tesla with energy storage system batteries, said a person familiar with the matter, as the U.S. company looks to reduce reliance on Chinese imports due to tariffs. The lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries will be supplied from LGES's U.S. factory in Michigan, the person said on condition of anonymity because the details were not public. LGES announced earlier on Wednesday that it had signed a US$4.3 billion contract to supply LFP batteries over three years globally, without identifying the customer or saying if they would be used in vehicles or energy storage systems. The South Korean company said last week it would try to offset sluggish electric vehicle demand by increasing sales of storage batteries thanks to a global surge in demand for power driven by data centers to train artificial intelligence. 'In accordance with our agreement, we are unable to disclose the customer's identity due to confidentiality obligations,' LGES told Reuters. Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Tesla Chief Financial Officer Vaibhav Taneja said in April that U.S. tariffs had an 'outsized' impact on its energy business, since it sources LFP batteries from China. 'We will also be working on securing additional supply chain from non-China-based suppliers, but it will take time,' he said. Tesla this week also announced a US$16.5 billion deal to buy chips from Samsung Electronics' factory in Texas as South Korean companies expand their U.S. presence to meet local demand. Three South Korean cabinet-level officials met U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick in Washington in a push to close a trade deal ahead of an August 1 deadline for 25 per cent tariffs on U.S. imports from South Korea to kick in, Seoul said on Wednesday. U.S. production LGES is one of the few U.S. producers of LFP batteries, a battery chemistry long dominated by Chinese rivals that have little presence in the U.S. market. It started production of LFP batteries at its Michigan factory in May. The company said it was considering converting some electric vehicle battery production lines in the United States to cater to energy storage systems in response to slowing EV demand. LGES said the contract would last from August 2027 to July 2030 and included an option to extend the deal period by up to seven years and to increase supply volumes depending on discussions with its customer. 'Other players, including South Korean firms like Samsung SDI and SK On, have yet to enter the U.S. LFP market, allowing LGES to enjoy a first-mover advantage,' said Cho Hyun-ryul, a senior analyst at Samsung Securities. 'While rivals have announced plans, LGES remains the only one actively producing at scale.' Tesla's energy storage and generation business accounts for just over ten per cent of its revenue but it has been a bright spot for the company as it struggles with slowing car sales and upcoming cuts to U.S. government support for EVs. 'Energy is growing really well despite headwinds from tariffs and various supply chain challenges,' Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on an earnings call last week. 'I think not that many people appreciate just how gigantic the scale of battery demand is.' Tesla has said its first LFP cell manufacturing facility will be online by the end of the year, but the in-house factory in Nevada will likely account for a small portion of its demand. --- Reporting by Heekyong Yang and Hyunjoo Jin; Editing by Jamie Freed

Fintech Ramp secures US$22.5 billion valuation in late-stage funding round

A man holds a phone and a banking card in this undated stock image. (Mikhail Nilov/ Ramp said on Wednesday a late-stage funding round led by investment firm ICONIQ valued the fintech at US$22.5 billion, as it aims to accelerate its AI agent rollout with the fresh capital. The fintech sector is showing early signs of a rebound with a string of late-stage deals and exits after a years-long funding slump. New York-based Ramp, which offers corporate cards, payment services and expense management applications, was last valued at US$16 billion after it raised US$200 million at a Series E funding round in June. The company raised US$500 million in the latest Series E-2 round, taking its total equity financing to US$1.9 billion. The round saw participation from venture capital firms such as Founders Fund, GIC, Coatue, Thrive Capital and General Catalyst. Founded in 2019, Ramp enables tens of billions in purchases annually. It caters to more than 40,000 companies, including commercial real estate firm CBRE and defense technology company Anduril. Earlier this month, the company had launched its first autonomous artificial intelligence agents, which help clients in flagging fraud, updating policies as well as reviewing and approving transactions. 'We're focused on ensuring our only constraint is the scale of our ambition,' Ramp Chief Financial Officer Will Petrie said. Palo Alto Plans CyberArk Buyout: Can This Boost PANW's Identity Edge?

Palo Alto Networks, Inc. PANW is in advanced talks to acquire CyberArk Software Ltd. CYBR, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter. The report further stated that the deal could be worth more than $20 billion. If completed, the acquisition would expand Palo Alto Networks' reach beyond network and cloud security into identity and privileged access management (PAM). As identity threats become more central to cyberattacks, the timing of this potential acquisition may align well with growing enterprise needs. Following the report, shares of CyberArk soared 13.5%, while Palo Alto Networks witnessed a decline of 5.2%. Year to date, CYBR has outperformed the Zacks Security industry, while PANW has underperformed the same. YTD Price Return Performance Buyout Deal to Bolster PANW's Foothold in Identity Security Identity and access management (IAM) is emerging as one of the fastest-growing areas within cybersecurity. According to a MarketsandMarkets report, the global IAM market size is anticipated to reach $34.3 billion by 2029, reflecting a CAGR of 8.4% during the 2024-2029 period. As organizations move more workloads to the cloud and adopt hybrid work models, managing and protecting user access has become a core security priority. CyberArk is a leader in this space, particularly known for its privileged access management tools that protect sensitive accounts often targeted in breaches. CyberArk's acquisition would strengthen Palo Alto Networks' foothold in a category where it currently lacks scale. PANW has already built out capabilities in endpoint and network security through its Cortex and Prisma platforms. However, identity-driven threat protection has remained a weaker link, an area where competitors like CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc. CRWD and Okta, Inc. OKTA have moved more aggressively. Okta focuses solely on identity, while CrowdStrike is pushing deeper into identity protection with native offerings such as Falcon Identity Threat Protection, Falcon Identity Threat Detection and Falcon Privileged Access. By integrating CyberArk's capabilities, Palo Alto Networks would be able to deliver a more comprehensive, unified platform that spans cloud, endpoint, network and identity protection. CYBR Buyout Aligns With PANW's Platformization Approach The acquisition of CyberArk aligns with Palo Alto Networks' 'platformization' strategy, which combines network, endpoint and cloud security in one ecosystem. Adding CyberArk would expand that platform into identity, a missing layer that customers now consider essential. Palo Alto Networks' platformization approach has been gaining significant traction. In the third quarter of fiscal 2025, the company added more than 90 new platformized deals. This brings the total to around 1,250 platformizations among its top 5,000 accounts. Moreover, customers who use more than one PANW platform grew nearly 70% year over year during the third quarter. Management believes platformization is key to reaching its $15 billion Next-Gen Security Annual Recurring Revenue target by fiscal 2030, with 60-70% of that total expected to come from platformized customers. With approximately 2% of PANW's more than 70,000 customers fully platformized, the runway remains wide open. Conclusion: CYBR's Addition to Bolster PANW's Prospects The potential CyberArk acquisition could give Palo Alto Networks the tools it needs to lead in identity-first security, a fast-growing segment in which rivals like Okta and CrowdStrike are continuously growing their expertise. By combining identity, cloud and endpoint protection, PANW would be better positioned to serve large enterprises looking for broad, integrated solutions. We believe that the deal, if it materializes, may define Palo Alto Networks' next chapter in the cybersecurity race. Palo Alto Networks carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) at present, while CyberArk sports a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).
