Boxing legend Ricky Hatton, 46, to come out of retirement - but misses big announcement in Dubai due to BIZARRE injury suffered at Oasis gig
The former world champion, 46, will face fellow veteran Eisa Al Dah in a middleweight contest on December 2 in Dubai.
It marks Hatton's first professional bout since 2012, when he was stopped by Vyacheslav Senchenko in Manchester.
Hatton did return to the ring for an exhibition against Marco Antonio Barrera in 2022, but this upcoming clash will be fully sanctioned.
Al Dah, also 46, is the United Arab Emirates' first professional boxer, having made his debut in 2007.
Hatton was set to fly to Dubai this week for Sunday night's high-profile launch press conference but was forced to stay home after suffering an eye injury from his designer at the Oasis reunion gig, leaving him unable to travel until it heals.
The Gallagher brothers made their long-awaited reunion this weekend after 16 years apart.
Hatton was famously escorted to the ring by Noel and Liam Gallagher for his 2008 victory over Paulie Malignaggi.
Unable to attend the announcement of the fight in person, Hatton joined the press conference via video call to promote the fight.
He said 'I'm very much looking forward to it myself, to be honest with you.
'What you're trying to do there for boxing in Dubai is fantastic.'
An enthusiastic Al Dah added: 'Trust me, this fight will not be like the Jake Paul and Mike Tyson fight.
'It will be a true fight, true action. And I will do my best, because everybody in the UAE and the Gulf, they will watch this fight. The place will be sold out and it will be watched around the world.'
Hatton is still regarded as one of Britain's greatest and most beloved boxers, having racked up an incredible 43 straight wins before suffering his first defeat at the hands of Floyd Mayweather Jr in their 2007 clash for the WBC and The Ring welterweight titles.
During that unbeaten run, Hatton became a multiple-time world champion at super lightweight and also captured a welterweight belt.
His defining night came in June 2005, when he toppled Australia's Kostya Tszyu to claim the IBF and The Ring super lightweight titles in a career-best performance.
After his loss to Mayweather, Hatton bounced back with impressive victories over Juan Lazcano and Paulie Malignaggi, successfully defending his IBO and The Ring super lightweight belts.
However, his reign came to an end in brutal fashion when he was knocked out by Manny Pacquiao in May 2009.
That defeat led to a two-and-a-half-year hiatus from the sport, before Hatton made a comeback in November 2012 against Vyacheslav Senchenko — a return that ended in disappointment as he was stopped in the ninth round.

Oleksandr Usyk warns Daniel Dubois his boxing IQ is too much for him ahead of undisputed title fight at Wembley
OLEKSANDR USYK has warned Daniel Dubois that his boxing brain is one nut Britain's best and biggest cannot crack. Derek Chisora gave the 38-year-old Ukraine icon five torrid 2020 rounds before being outpointed. 3 3 3 Anthony Joshua tried to outbox the fox and was handed back-to-back defeats in 2020 and 2021 And 6ft, 9in Tyson Fury tried to abuse and bully the former cruiserweight king and was also handed consecutive 2024 losses. Respectful and reserved Dubois gave it a decent whack in 2023 but he surrendered in the ninth after running out of ideas and energy. But now the rematch is back at Wembley - for all four world titles and undisputed legacy - and Dubois looks like the last Englishman tasked with trying to best the greatest IQ in modern boxing. Chisora told SunSport that Usyk is having his supreme engine and southpaw skills boosted by the ongoing invasion of his beloved country. And he agreed. 'What Chisora said is true.' Usyk told us. "You can't crack my head. 'Everyone wants to talk about their punches or their power. I just wait for my time. I just wait for the bell to go DING and the referee to say: 'box'." Usyk's training regime defies sports science; he swims for hours, ships in the best giants sparring partners from all around the world and throws in mind games and magic tricks - the man can really dance too. But it's his brain that has helped him keep ice cool against verbal and physical provocation from some of the most dangerous men on the planet, while he counters with a gap-toothed grin and a boxing masterclass. 'The brain and the body are the same,' he explained. 'If you have the brain but no fitness, it's bad. In camp with Daniel Dubois ahead of Oleksandr Usyk bout 'But if you have the best conditioning but a weak brain, it's also bad. 'When you do conditioning training, it has to hurt, you have to come through that and that's mental.' One other weapon in Usyk's artillery is the inspiration he takes from his father. Oleksandr Sr died days after his son's 2012 Olympic win, before his boy could get the medal back to him. Instead the gold went into his coffin and, in the following years, pre-fight dreams would be the only time he saw his father. Now his mum Nadiya guides the ship and she had strict instructions for her lad, after the family jewels took an almighty whack in the first fight. 'She told me to have a big groin protector.'

England boxing referee suspended after pestering woman for threesome on social media
AN ENGLAND Boxing referee was suspended after pestering a woman for a threesome on social media. Paul Rosendale was handed a 10-week ban in March after he admitted sending an inappropriate message to the female official online. 1 She had been on a course run by Rosendale in September 2022 when he first made a request for a threesome in person. Rosendale followed it up with another approach on social media a day later. And a disciplinary panel for England Boxing handed down a 10-week punishment to the official earlier this year. According to the Telegraph, the panel ruled Rosendale's actions were 'serious and fundamentally inconsistent with the work of England Boxing in seeking to encourage more females to become involved in boxing, coaching and officiating.' The amateur boxing referee, who is in his 40s, has been running courses in officiating for several years. He previously trained 'in excess of 80 new and existing officials from the East Midlands, Yorkshire and Royal Air Force associations.' Rosendale was nominated for 2023's England Boxing official of the year. It was declared at the time that 'his contribution has led the RAF Boxing Association having more officials than ever before.' But a panel handed down a 10-week ban on 14 March this year. A report stated: 'Following the verbal request, (Rosendale made) a request again for the female official to join a threesome with him.' It continued: 'The panel did consider whether Mr Rosendale should be required to attend some form of training as it was concerned that Mr Rosendale was of the view that how a female acts (or is perceived to act) should determine what is/is not appropriate to say/send to her and that the appropriateness or otherwise of communications should be determined by the absence (apparent or otherwise) of offence on the part of the recipient. 'Having given it due consideration, the panel was of the view that this would not be necessary as it expected that the experience of dealing with the charges, his remorse and the steps he was taking to address his underlying behaviours coupled with this decision, should be sufficient.' England Boxing has been contacted by SunSport for comment.
