Lakers jersey history No. 2 — Anthony Miller

USA Today5 days ago
Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary.
As the Lakers approach their 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years.
We now take a look at Anthony Miller, a power forward who suited up for the Lakers in the 1990s.
Miller grew up in Benton Harbor, a small town in southwest Michigan, and played three seasons of college basketball at Michigan State University. The Golden State Warriors took him in the second round of the 1994 NBA Draft, and he was subsequently traded to the Lakers.
He played two seasons with the Purple and Gold and averaged 3.1 points and 2.4 rebounds in 8.9 minutes a game. The 6-foot-9 big man was nicknamed "Pig" because his facial features resembled those of that specific mammal.
After leaving the Lakers, Miller spent six more seasons in the NBA. He also spent time with the Yakima Sun Kings of the Continental Basketball Association and won league championships there in 2003 and 2006.

"That would say she's statistically better"- Patrick Beverley argues that Paige Bueckers is better than Caitlin Clark

"That would say she's statistically better"- Patrick Beverley argues that Paige Bueckers is better than Caitlin Clark originally appeared on Basketball Network. Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark's popularity has transcended the WNBA realm. Clark is credited with elevating the women's game to new heights. Now she has become a popular discussion subject even in NBA-related podcasts. Last week, it was Jeff Teague who took a shot at CC by saying that the Fever are better off without her than with. Now it's former NBA player Patrick Beverley who is trying to argue that Paige Bueckers is better than Caitlin. "Ain't nobody doing this Paige Bueckers, Caitlin Clark debate. She's nice. Paige is nice. Who's better?" Beverley said. "Caitlin Clark was also Rookie of the Year, correct? So if Paige Bueckers was fastest to reach these milestones, that would say that she was statistically better than Caitlin Clark, correct?" Bueckers breaking rookie records Paige was the 2021 Naismith Player of the Year at UConn, while Caitlin won the same trophy in 2023 and 2024. Bueckers was the No.1 overall pick of the 2025 NBA Draft by the Dallas Wings, just like Clark was the Fever's top overall pick last season. CC went on to win Rookie of the Year honors while setting several records in the process. Paige is just 24 games into her rookie season, and not only is she favored to win the Rookie of the Year award, but she is also breaking rookie records left and right. Last month, Bueckers tied Clark's record of 300 points and 100 assists in her first 19 games. But she took it to the next level when she became the first player in WNBA history to stack up 350 points and 100 assists in her first 20 games played. Just recently, Paige also became the fastest player since 1997 to get 400 points and 100 Paige's pace, Caitlin will still end up with the better rookie season Currently, Paige is averaging 18.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 1.8 steals per game with shooting splits of .457/.333/.861 for the 8-22 Wings. For comparison's sake, Clark put up 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 8.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game with shooting splits of .417/.344/.906 during her freshman year. More importantly, Caitlin helped end Indiana's seven-season playoff drought by leading them to a 20-20 regular season record. After Paige put up 21 points and eight rebounds last Tuesday night in another losing effort against the New York Liberty, 76-85, Beverley tweeted after the Wings' latest loss, "Y'all not ready to have that Paige Bueckers argument yet, huh? Say less." The main reason people may not be ready to make the argument just yet is that, while Paige is on track to break records, it's still unclear whether she can surpass Caitlin's overall rookie numbers, which carry more weight than simply being the "first to" reach certain milestones. Perhaps Beverley was looking at this season's stats because if that's the case, Bueckers is undoubtedly playing better than Clark. But overall, including the ability to lead the team to the playoffs, it's evident that Caitlin is better, at least for story was originally reported by Basketball Network on Aug 7, 2025, where it first appeared.

Warriors' Jonathan Kuminga betting on himself in 2025-26

Warriors' Jonathan Kuminga betting on himself in 2025-26 originally appeared on The Sporting News As Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga enters the final year of his deal, there are questions about his future with the franchise. Kuminga and his team reportedly rejected the Warriors' two-year, $45 million contract offer, and Golden State is disinterested in a sign-and-trade with teams like the Sacramento Kings and the Phoenix Suns. Here is what one Western Conference executive told NBC Sports Bay Area about the Kuminga situation: 'There will be some teams with money next year. Kuminga might have to just have to ride this out one more year and see what happens. It might come to fruition. Maybe he becomes more like 'the guy' there. There are people who believe he should play more, that he should do this more or do that more. 'But you still got Steph (Curry) there. You got Jimmy (Butler) there.' Kuminga, 23 in October, has not quite lived up to his 7th overall in the 2021 Draft billing. However, he has also averaged 15.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.3 stocks per game while playing only 25.6 minutes per game over the last two seasons. Perhaps Kuminga is destined for more, and his athleticism and upside could help the Warriors reach their prime dynasty heights for one final ride or two in the Curry era. On the other hand, Kuminga will still be strapped for minutes — barring injuries — due to an awkward on-court fit with Golden State's starting five. We know head coach Steve Kerr wants to roll with at least three guards, and while Draymond Green is more than capable of playing the five, Kuminga leaves them with spacing issues at the four. This could also be a win-win scenario for the Warriors. If Kuminga breaks out, great, you have an aging core of Curry, Butler, and Green, and need all the instant reinforcements you can get. If Kuminga plateaus, losing the upcoming restricted free agent to a more desperate team is not the end of the world. Either way, this crucial contract year will set the tone for the rest of Kuminga's time in the NBA.

Final NBA approval for Boston Celtics reportedly to be approved in next two weeks

For fans of the Boston Celtics, the sale of the team to new majority owner Bill Chisholm is old news at this late hour of the 2025 NBA offseason. But in a strictly technical sense, the deal is not quite done, with the NBA Board of Governors needed to put their stamp of approval on the ownership transfer. But recent reporting from Sportico's Kurt Badenhausen and Scott Soshnick relates that the sale is about two weeks away from being finalized with the NBA. According to Sportico, the sale will cross that final finish line "late next week or early the following week," per multiple sources. The vote, comprised of the other 29 team governors, could also end up taking place virtually, with presential meetings not required for the transfer to be approved. The $6.1 billion sale set records for the valuation of an NBA team at the time of the sale, and will see Chisholm officially take on the mantle as majority owner that also has ArcelorMittal exec Aditya Mittal serving as the second-largest stakeholder in the ownership group. Private equity group Sixth Street will reportedly also have a major stake in the Celtics new ownership group. Listen to "Havlicek Stole the Pod" on: Spotify: iTunes: YouTube:
