Lakers to reportedly make changes to one of their jerseys next season

The Los Angeles Lakers have always had some of the most iconic uniforms in all of sports. Ever since the late 1960s, when they adopted their current wordmark logo and purple and gold colors, there have been only mild alterations to their jerseys and shorts every so often. In recent years, some have complained about the design of the Lakers' Statement Edition uniforms. They feature a purple background and black numbers with a gold drop shadow, as well as a black side stripe, which is a departure from tradition since black isn't a team color. Advertisement According to ProLine Mockups, the team's Statement Edition jerseys will look somewhat different next season. The photo that was leaked shows them with white numbers that have a gold shadow and the Lakers' wordmark logo in white. ProLine Mockups stressed that the photo shown is of a base design, which means that the final design may look a little different. Jaxson Hayes feels he improved this season

After the Los Angeles Lakers landed Luka Doncic in that stunning early February trade, Jaxson Hayes was their only true center who was on a standard contract. While he often made a concerted effort to help them out, his limitations were clear, and they were usually at a disadvantage in the middle. He averaged 6.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 19.5 minutes a game during the regular season, and he provided Doncic with a lob threat. However, in the first round of the NBA playoffs against the Minnesota Timberwolves, he was practically invisible, as he played just 7.8 minutes a game throughout the series. Advertisement Once it was over, he did say that he felt he improved this season. Via Lakers Nation: 'I feel like I grew a good amount in certain ways,' Hayes said in his exit interview when reflecting on his year. 'On the defensive end, stepping up and showing that I can compete at that high level and not just be a backup for a team. I feel like I showed I can be out there playing more. Obviously there's still a ton of things that I need to work on, but I felt pretty good throughout the season.' The Lakers will undoubtedly make a strong effort to secure a clear upgrade at the center position. Hayes will be a free agent this summer, but there may be a good chance he sticks around, especially considering the Lakers' lack of trade assets that they could use to acquire multiple big men capable of playing the center position. Austin Reaves talks about his experience this season with Lakers

For the third year in a row, Austin Reaves elevated his production and overall game for the Los Angeles Lakers this season. While his shooting efficiency was up and down throughout the season, he raised his scoring average from 15.9 points a game the previous year to 20.2 points a game, and he also posted 5.8 assists a game. The Feb. 1 acquisition of Luka Doncic made life easier for Reaves, as it meant he didn't have to work hard to create offense off the dribble as much. As a result, his shooting efficiency increased shortly after the trade, and he put up 24.9 points on 52.4% overall shooting and 42.4% from 3-point range in his last 17 regular-season games. Advertisement Reaves didn't play well in the Lakers' five-game loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the NBA playoffs. But he seems to have a positive outlook on how the season went. Via Lakers Nation: 'I had a lot of fun,' Reaves said in his exit interview. 'Forget the basketball, I enjoyed every single day going to work and being around these guys, the coaching staff, training staff, weight staff, everybody in the organization. From game one to game 82 and now, I just had a lot of fun. I always speak about how growing up playing with your best friends in high school, sometimes nothing will ever top that because you've been able to play high school basketball with guys you grew up with your whole life. 'But this is right up there with all of that. I really enjoyed it and like I said, I had fun regardless of statistics or anything. I enjoyed going to work every single day and putting in the work and going to battle with these guys.' There is a growing feeling among some people that the Lakers may have to trade Reaves in order to become a true championship contender. But Jovan Buha of The Athletic said recently that the chances of him being traded this summer are low. As long as he remains with the team, his ability to assume some of the ball-handling, facilitating and scoring duties should help it in its efforts to win an 18th NBA championship while also keeping LeBron James' workload at a reasonable level. Jaxson Hayes expressed shock at how quickly the Lakers' season ended

Many people felt the Los Angeles Lakers had a real shot at winning this season's NBA championship or at least making a deep playoff run when the playoffs started last month. But instead of giving themselves a chance to do something special, the Lakers lost in the first round to the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games. One of the biggest reasons they flamed out so early was their weak center rotation. Jaxson Hayes, their starting center and the only true center in their rotation, had his moments during the regular season, but he barely played versus Minnesota. He ended up averaging 1.8 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.3 blocks in 7.6 minutes a game during the series. Advertisement Once it was over, he seemed shocked at how quickly L.A.'s season came to an end. Via Lakers Nation: 'It just doesn't feel real,' Hayes said. 'I feel like we had a great team. We were coming along and after the All-Star break I feel like we really started clicking a lot. So it just doesn't even feel real that the season is over.' Addressing the center position will be the Lakers' top task this offseason. While they also need a little more guard and wing depth, simply adding a starting-caliber defensive center to their roster would greatly increase their chances of winning it all next season. Hayes could be a solid reserve center, but it has been proven that he's incapable of being a starter on a team that hopes to make lots of noise in the postseason. Anthony Edwards on how the Lakers defended him in Game 2

It may not fully seem like it, but through two games of their first-round playoff series versus the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Los Angeles Lakers have done a pretty good job containing Anthony Edwards. In Game 1, even though Minnesota won by a final score of 117-95, he shot just 8-of-22 from the field and scored 22 points. In the Lakers' Game 2 win on Tuesday, he was more efficient by going 10-of-22 overall, but he only managed to score 25 points, which was below his regular-season average of 27.6 points a game. Advertisement The Lakers' defense was noticeably more active and physical in Game 2, something that Edwards acknowledged afterward. Edwards did have one big highlight early in the third quarter of Game 2 when he put on his cape, got in his personal elevator and dunked on L.A. starting center Jaxson Hayes. He will likely be energized by returning home for Game 3 and Game 4, and thus L.A.'s defense will need to be ready as the team tries to regain the home-court advantage it lost in Game 1.
