Saudi VC Company iMENA Raises $135 Million to Accelerate IPO Plans
Saudi-based venture capital investment company iMENA Group has raised $135 million in a pre-IPO investment round, securing backing from Sanabil Investments, FJ Labs, Saygin Yalcin, and other Saudi investors. The capital raise, comprising a private placement and in-kind contributions, represents the first tranche of iMENA's pre-IPO funding efforts. Proceeds will be directed toward increasing iMENA's shareholding in OpenSooq, SellAnyCar, and Jeeny, in addition to supporting vertical and geographic expansion and enhancing platform synergies.
In a step toward a future public listing, iMENA has restructured into a Saudi Closed Joint Stock Company (CJSC) under the name iMENA Holding. Saygin Yalcin will join the Board of Directors and management committee to contribute to the company's strategic direction. The transaction was described as an important milestone in iMENA's path to IPO-readiness, closely aligned with opportunities created by Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030.
The newly appointed Board of Directors includes Nasir Alsharif, Khaldoon Tabaza, Adey Salamin, Saygin Yalcin, Mazin AlDawood, Usman Sikandar, and Marco Somalvico, with a representative from Sanabil Investments to be named soon. iMENA's platforms — OpenSooq, SellAnyCar, and Jeeny — are market leaders across the real estate, automotive, and mobility sectors in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Oman, Kuwait, and the wider Middle East. These businesses are profitable, with an annual growth rate exceeding 55%, and revenue contributions are balanced between Saudi Arabia and the UAE, each accounting for approximately 40%.
Founded in 2012 by Nasir Alsharif, Khaldoon Tabaza, and Adey Salamin, iMENA has a track record of launching, acquiring, scaling, and exiting digital businesses across the region. Its leadership team brings extensive expertise in technology, marketplaces, investment, and venture capital within the MENA landscape.

Saudi to Allocate 2.5 Million Airline Seats for Umrah by End of 2025

Routes from Europe, including Paris, Lyon and London, are part of a wider strategy to improve access to Madinah and Jeddah. Saudi Arabia has announced plans to allocate a total of 2.5 million airline seats for Umrah pilgrims by the end of 2025, with over 700,000 seats already utilised during the first quarter of the year. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance air connectivity to the Kingdom's key pilgrimage cities, including Madinah and Jeddah, and to streamline travel for visitors from across the globe. The expansion was unveiled during the Umrah and Ziyarah Forum, held in Madinah from April 14th to the 16th, which brought together 150 exhibitors representing over 100 countries. The event focused on infrastructure, travel technologies, and Madinah's historical significance. So far in 2025, 12 airlines have joined the Kingdom's air connectivity programme, introducing 20 new international routes and adding 1.5 million seats to the network. Participating carriers include ITA Airways, British Airways, Wizz Air, and Eurowings. Several of the new connections focus on Europe. Germany's Stuttgart has been added to the growing list of cities with direct flights to Jeddah, alongside Berlin and Cologne. Transavia, the France-based carrier, will soon operate flights from Paris and Lyon. In the United Kingdom, daily flights from London's Gatwick Airport to Madinah are scheduled to begin in August, contributing 180,000 seats to the Umrah travel system. The expansion reflects Saudi Arabia's ongoing efforts to facilitate religious tourism and improve access to holy sites as part of Vision 2030, which seeks to increase the number of annual Umrah visitors to 30 million.

UAE LegalTech Startup Qanooni Raises $2 Million in Pre-Seed Round

With backing from global and regional investors, Qanooni plans to expand its AI-powered legal platform across the UAE and UK. Jun 11, 2025 Qanooni, a UAE-based legal technology startup, has secured $2 million in a pre-seed investment round led by Village Global, Salica Investments' Oryx Fund, TA Ventures, and a group of strategic angel investors. The funding will support Qanooni's expansion across the UAE and the UK, and further development of its proprietary AI systems designed to streamline legal workflows. Founded by Anuscha Iqbal, Ziyaad Ahmed, and Karim Shiyab, Qanooni is building an AI-powered platform that integrates directly with the tools most commonly used by legal professionals, including Microsoft Outlook and Word. The platform allows lawyers to prepare and review documents with greater speed and accuracy, while adapting to individual tone, style, and formatting preferences. It also connects with existing document management systems, eliminating the need for additional standalone software. The investment comes amid growing interest in LegalTech across the UAE, where regulatory reforms and digitisation initiatives have opened new space for innovation in the legal sector. Over the past two years, the country has seen a steady rise in LegalTech startups offering services such as automated contract review and AI-assisted compliance tools. Accelerators and regulatory sandboxes supported by bodies like the DIFC Innovation Hub and Abu Dhabi Global Market have provided early-stage support, while law firms and corporate legal departments have shown increasing willingness to adopt technologies that enhance efficiency and reduce overhead. According to Grand View Research, the UAE legal technology market generated US $114.5 million in 2023 and is forecast to reach $234.4 million by 2030, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.8%.
