"Will they apologise to the country for emergency?": Haryana CM Saini targets Congress
Gurugram (Haryana) [India], June 28 (ANI): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for allegedly misleading the public during election campaigns.
He further questioned the party for failing to apologise for the Emergency and the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
The Chief Minister made these remarks while addressing a 'State-level Mock Parliament' organised by the BJP Mahila Morcha, Haryana's Gurugram.
He exhorted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country has been functioning according to the Constitution.
Addressing the event in Gurugram, CM Saini said, 'During elections, Yuvraj (Rahul Gandhi) picks up the holy Constitution book and campaigns that if Modi Ji becomes the Prime Minister, the Constitution will be abolished. Under Modi Ji's leadership, this country is running according to the Constitution...'
'I want to ask the Congress people, will you apologise to the country for the Emergency? You have not apologised to date. In 1984, a particular community was massacred, and no apology was made for that either. According to this holy Constitution, if anyone has tried to get them justice, it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi,' the Chief Minister added.
In a post on X, Saini alleged that during the Emergency, people faced atrocities 'worse' than those under British rule and paid respects to all those who endured such suffering.
The social media post reads, 'Gratitude to the maternal forces present at the 'State-level Mock Parliament' organized by BJP Mahila Morcha, Haryana, in the vibrant city of Gurugram, led by Guru Dronacharya!'

'During the Emergency, people faced atrocities worse than those under British rule; I pay my respects to all those who endured such suffering. In that era, there was neither instability in the country, nor any natural disaster, nor any earthquake. Solely for their selfish motives, the Congress government trampled upon the Constitution,' it added.
Between 25 June 1975 and 21 March 1977, India was placed under a state of Emergency under Article 352 of the Constitution. On 25 June 1975, the then President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed issued the Emergency proclamation under Article 352, citing threats from internal disturbance. This was the third Emergency in India's history, but the first one declared in peacetime. Earlier proclamations were during wars with China (1962) and Pakistan (1971). (ANI)

Senate holds rare weekend vote to meet Trump's tax, spending cuts deadline
The Senate is taking a key procedural vote during a rare Saturday evening session as Republicans race to pass US President Donald Trump's package of tax breaks, spending cuts and bolstered deportation funds by his July 4 deadline. But the tally was tight and voting came to a standstill as Vice-President J D Vance arrived at the Capitol to break a potential tie. Several Republican senators were registering their opposition to proceeding to open debate on the bill. Republicans are using their majorities in Congress to push aside Democratic opposition, but they have run into a series of political and policy setbacks. Not all GOP lawmakers are on board with proposals to reduce spending on Medicaid, food stamps and other programs as a way to help cover the cost of extending some USD 3.8 trillion in Trump tax breaks. Ahead of the expected roll call, the White House released a statement of administrative policy saying it strongly supports passage of the bill that implements critical aspects of the president's agenda. Trump himself was at his golf course in Virginia on Saturday with GOP senators posting about it on social media. "It's time to get this legislation across the finish line," Senate Majority Leader John Thune said. But as the day dragged, billionaire Elon Musk lashed out, calling the package utterly insane and destructive. The latest Senate draft bill will destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense strategic harm to our country! the former top Trump aide said in a post. The 940-page bill was released shortly before midnight Friday, and senators are expected to grind through the days ahead with hours of potentially all-night debate and countless amendments. Senate passage could be days away, and the bill would need to return to the House for a final round of votes before it could reach the White House. With the narrow Republican majorities in the House and Senate, leaders need almost every lawmaker on board in the face of essentially unified opposition from Democrats. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said Republicans dropped the bill in the dead of night and are rushing to finish the bill before the public fully knows what's in it. He is expected to call for a full reading of the text in the Senate, which would take hours. Make-or-break moment for GOP The weekend session could be a make-or-break moment for Trump's party, which has invested much of its political capital on his signature domestic policy plan. Trump is pushing Congress to wrap it up, even as he sometimes gives mixed signals, allowing for more time. At recent events at the White House, including Friday, Trump has admonished the grandstanders among GOP holdouts to fall in line. The legislation is an ambitious but complicated series of GOP priorities. At its core, it would make permanent many of the tax breaks from Trump's first term that would otherwise expire by year's end if Congress fails to act, resulting in a potential tax increase on Americans. The bill would add new breaks, including no taxes on tips, and commit USD 350 billion to national security, including for Trump's mass deportation agenda. But the cutbacks to Medicaid, food stamps and green energy investments, which a top Democrat, Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon, said would be a death sentence for America's wind and solar industries, are also causing dissent within GOP ranks. The Republicans are relying on the reductions to offset the lost tax revenues but some lawmakers say the cuts go too far, particularly for people receiving health care through Medicaid. Meanwhile, conservatives, worried about the nation's debt, are pushing for steeper cuts. Senator Thom Tillis, who said he spoke with Trump late Friday explaining his concerns, announced Saturday that he cannot support the package as is, largely because of the changes to health care that he said would force his state to make painful decisions like eliminating Medicaid coverage for hundreds of thousands. Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky has been opposed to the bill's provision to raise the nation's debt limit by USD 5 trillion. And GOP Senator Tim Sheehy of Montana said he would agree to proceeding only after being assured a provision for public lands sales he opposes would be taken out with an amendment. After setbacks, Republicans revise some proposals The release of that draft had been delayed as the Senate parliamentarian reviewed the bill to ensure it complied with the chamber's strict Byrd Rule", named for the late Senator Robert C. Byrd. It largely bars policy matters from inclusion in budget bills unless a provision can get 60 votes to overcome objections. That would be a tall order in a Senate with a 53-47 GOP edge and Democrats unified against Trump's bill. Republicans suffered a series of setbacks after several proposals, including shifting food stamp costs from the federal government to the states or gutting the funding structure of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, were deemed out of compliance with the rules. But over the past days, Republicans have quickly revised those proposals and reinstated them.

Preamble sacrosanct, says V-P Dhankhar
New Delhi: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Saturday asserted the preamble of a constitution is "not changeable" but was changed in India during the Emergency which signals a betrayal of the "wisdom" of the framers of the Constitution. He also said the words inserted in the Preamble in 1976 during the period of Emergency, were a "nasoor" (festering wound) and could cause upheaval. "It is nothing but belittling the civilisational wealth and knowledge of this country for thousands of years. It is a sacrilege of the spirit of Sanatan," the vice president said at a book launch event here. Dhankhar described preamble as a "seed" on which a constitution grows. He also underlined that the preamble of no other constitution has undergone change except that of India. "The Preamble of a constitution is not changeable. But this Preamble was changed by the 42nd Constitution (Amendment) Act of 1976," he said noting that the words "socialist", "secular", and "integrity" were added.

Revanth to tap Amit Shah for central funds for city projects
Hyderabad: Continuing his tirade against Union Minister G Kishan Reddy, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday wondered what he (Kishan Reddy) had achieved for Hyderabad and what was Prime Minister Narendra Modi's contribution for the city's development. A day ahead of Union Minister Amit Shah's visit to Hyderabad on Sunday, the Chief Minister said that the state government would urge Shah to give his nod for Metro expansion and support RRR (Regional Ring Road) and Musi Riverfront projects. Speaking after inaugurating the 1.2-km PJR flyover at Gachibowli that was constructed at a cost of Rs 182.72 crore, Revanth Reddy regretted that none of the eight BJP MPs from Telangana had secured central funds for various developmental projects taken up in the state. 'Kishan Reddy should tell us if he has brought anything from Modi? Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, both ruled by Opposition parties, were given Metro. Andhra Pradesh has also benefitted. Bullet train was given to Gujarat at a cost of Rs two lakh crore. The central government's funds were give Sabarmati Riverfront in Gujarat, Yamuna Riverfront in Delhi and Ganga Riverfront in Uttar Pradesh. But why this step-motherly attitude towards our Musi Riverfront, Metro Rail and RRR projects?' he scorned. He wanted to know if the BJP felt that Telangana's demands were not legitimate or if there were any defects in the reports and proposals presented by the state government. Over the issue of Kancha Gachibowli lands, the Chief Minister reiterated that the state government was committed to development and would continue the legal fight till it reached its logical end. 'We are taking steps forward by dividing Telangana into Core Urban Region, Semi Urban Region, Rural Telangana. Delhi is in an uninhabitable condition due to pollution. Chennai is facing flood problems, while Bangalore is struggling with traffic woes. We should learn lessons from Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore. Don't forgive those who obstruct government programmes under the guise of politics. We tried to bring IT companies to Gachibowli and provide employment to lakhs of people, but they obstructed our plans. We will fight a legal battle over Gachibowli lands and provide employment to millions,' he reiterated. Reminding the services of Congress leader P Janardhan Reddy, Chief Minister directed officials to undertake a feasibility study for a statue near Gachibowli. 'Similar to Mammohan Singh's upcoming statue in the Financial District, we will have one of PJR,' he said. On the proposed delimitation, Revanth Reddy said that constituencies like Serilingampally may be divided into four segments. He urged the local MLA Arikepudi Gandhi to ensure Congress wins in all these constituencies, just like the feat achieved by PJR during whose time Khairatabad was divided into several constituencies and despite all that Congress achieved good results across segments. Highlighting the issue of pollution, the Chief Minister said that the government was encouraging Electric Vehicles (EV) in the city by way of tax exemptions. Citing the example of N-Convention Centre, he said that actor Nagarjuna had voluntarily given up two acres of land, while contributing for the development of the city. He said that this was possible only because of HYDRAA. He also said that Bathukamma Kunta's encroachment was removed after several decades and this time Bathukamma could be celebrated on that very restored land.
