"Will they apologise to the country for emergency?": Haryana CM Saini targets Congress
He further questioned the party for failing to apologise for the Emergency and the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
The Chief Minister made these remarks while addressing a 'State-level Mock Parliament' organised by the BJP Mahila Morcha, Haryana's Gurugram.
He exhorted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country has been functioning according to the Constitution.
Addressing the event in Gurugram, CM Saini said, 'During elections, Yuvraj (Rahul Gandhi) picks up the holy Constitution book and campaigns that if Modi Ji becomes the Prime Minister, the Constitution will be abolished. Under Modi Ji's leadership, this country is running according to the Constitution...'
'I want to ask the Congress people, will you apologise to the country for the Emergency? You have not apologised to date. In 1984, a particular community was massacred, and no apology was made for that either. According to this holy Constitution, if anyone has tried to get them justice, it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi,' the Chief Minister added.
In a post on X, Saini alleged that during the Emergency, people faced atrocities 'worse' than those under British rule and paid respects to all those who endured such suffering.

'During the Emergency, people faced atrocities worse than those under British rule; I pay my respects to all those who endured such suffering. In that era, there was neither instability in the country, nor any natural disaster, nor any earthquake. Solely for their selfish motives, the Congress government trampled upon the Constitution,' it added.
Between 25 June 1975 and 21 March 1977, India was placed under a state of Emergency under Article 352 of the Constitution. On 25 June 1975, the then President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed issued the Emergency proclamation under Article 352, citing threats from internal disturbance. Patriots Day is observed every year in Manipur on August 13 to commemorate the hanging of Bir Tikendrajit and Thangal General by the British on this day in 1891 for waging war against the British empire. Manipur is under President's rule. At least 258 people have been killed and over a thousand people injured in the ethnic violence in the state between the tribal Kuki-Zo and the non-tribal Meitei people since May 3, 2023. More than 60,000 people have been displaced from their homes and villages, They are staying in relief camps in different districts.

HC modifies order, says washrooms in fuel outlets should remain open to public round the clock
The Kerala High Court has modified its interim order that had put curbs on members of the public being permitted to use washrooms in petroleum retail outlets located beside national highway corridors. The court on Wednesday directed that the washrooms remain open to members of the public round the clock. Display boards announcing their availability too must be put up, the court said, adding that permission to use washrooms would be subject to matters like safety protocol and security considerations. The modified order by a Bench of Justice C.S. Dias comes in the wake of a submission by the State government about guidelines issued in December 2020 by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. It speaks of the need for drinking water and washrooms in retail fuel outlets round the clock, for use by the public. In its affidavit, the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) said as per its marketing guidelines, washrooms must be available to customers and transit travellers at all times, subject to safety protocols. However, it maintained that these cannot be termed as public toilets by local bodies. Allowing access to people who are not customers and travellers, remained the discretion of the retail dealer or manager. The other petroleum majors sought more time to submit their responses. The court had in June issued an interim order stating that the government cannot insist that toilets in private petroleum retail outlets be allowed for use by members of the public. The order was passed on a petition filed by the Petroleum Traders Welfare and Legal Service Society and five retailers, challenging a move by the government and local bodies to convert these toilets as public toilets. They contended that the private toilets they maintained at their retail outlets for emergency use by customers were often being forced to be opened for public use. Many members of the public and even those who arrived on tourist buses were thus seeking access to the toilets, disrupting regular functioning of the outlets and sometimes leading to altercations on the high-risk premises. Citing protection under Article 300A of the Constitution, they argued that toilets they built within their premises were private property.
