Harry Brook mercilessly hounds Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ben Stokes joins bitter sledging as England take revenge at Lord's
India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who played a part in the Day 3 squabble, was sledged mercilessly by the England fielders but none were more relentless than Harry Brook. The No.1-ranked batter was constantly breathing down Nitish Reddy's neck when the India all-rounder came out to bat at No.9 after India lost Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Washington Sundar.
In the 30th over, Brook was caught chirping, 'Who do you think you are? I remember when we were with the Sunrisers, you didn't say anything there.' A ball later, he said, "Jaddu needs to score all the runs. This is not IPL," to Reddy. Interestingly, Brook and Nitish Reddy were teammates at the Sunrisers Hyderabad not too long ago. While Nitish was retained by SRH, Brook was bought by Delhi Capitals in the mega auction. The England batter, however, pulled out of the IPL and attracted a two-year ban from participating in the league.

If Brook going after Nitish Reddy was not enough, England captain Ben Stokes also joined in. He bowled the last ball of the next over, which was successfully defended by Nitish Reddy, only to hear a mouthful from the England skipper. Stokes had a lot to say to Nitish, who shook his head in response.
In between, Nitish showed a lot of courage with his solid defence. He also hit a beautiful cover drive off Strokes to get a boundary. But after serving a marathon spell from the England captain, Nitish got a faint nick through to England keeper Jamie Smith in the last over before lunch on Day 5, bowled by Chris Woakes.
Nitish's dismissal for 13 meant India were tottering at 112 for eight chasing 193. Starting the day at 58 for four and needing another 135 runs on a rapidly deteriorating surface with variable bounce, India needed their experienced batters to fire for their fourth success at the iconic ground since 1932 but it was not to be.
The loss of Rishabh Pant (9 off 12 balls), KL Rahul (39 off 58) and Washington Sundar (0 off 4) inside the first hour made chasing 193 an improbable task for India.

The new law gives district magistrates the authority to postpone, cancel, or change the venue of an event if there's a risk of public unrest or breach of peace. The bill also includes stringent penalties for violations. Organisers who fail to comply with the law may face imprisonment for up to three years and fines up to Rs 5 lakh. In cases of injury or death due to negligence, the organiser is liable to pay compensation. Anand vs Kasparov, Gukesh vs Carlsen locked for Clutch Chess exhibition games in October
Indian great Viswanathan Anand will revive his iconic rivalry with Russian stalwart Garry Kasparov, while world champion D Gukesh will go up against familiar foe Magnus Carlsen in Clutch Chess exhibition matches come October in St Louis, USA. Kasparov and Anand last squared off in 2021 in the Croatia Rapid and Blitz competition at Zagreb where the Indian had emerged victorious. The two have clashed 82 times across formats in their illustrious careers with Kasparov leading in all of them and 30 games ending in draws. "Two former world champions, Garry Kasparov and Viswanathan Anand, go head-to-head in a special Clutch Chess [Legends] exhibition match from [October 7 to 11]. This once-in-a-generation clash celebrates the legacy of two chess greats and officially launches the month of reopening festivities," the St Louis Chess Club stated in a press release. "The exhibition match will be the first event held in the Club's enhanced facility, reaffirming the city's role as the chess capital of the United States and a global leader in the game." The event will feature a $144,000 prize fund to be awarded across a 12-game Chess960 (Fischer Random) match between the two icons. The games will be played at rapid and blitz time controls and "with an innovative scoring system designed to captivate both players and fans." Days after this, there will be a Clutch Chess: Champions Showdown from October 27 to 29 at the same venue. The lineup features World No.1 Carlsen, World No. 2 Hikaru Nakamura, World No. 3 Fabiano Caruana, and Gukesh in what will be the highest-rated chess tournament of the year. "With $412,000 in prize money, including daily win bonuses and a Champion's Jackpot, the stakes have never been higher," the club stated. "The event's 18-game rapid double round-robin format [10 minutes plus a 5-second increment] will feature escalating point values each day. Wins are worth one point on Day 1, two points on Day 2, and three points on Day 3," it added. Carlsen leads Gukesh 31-12, with six draws in head-to-head matches across all formats.

Cricket Asia Cup: Gill Returns as the Vice-Captain
Test skipper Shubman Gill's return to vice-captaincy in T20Is was the only major decision the national selectors took while announcing the squad for the Asia Cup on Tuesday, as the wise men chose not to tinker much with a successful combination. While most members of the squad for the continental bash—due to be held in the United Arab Emirates from September 9–28—picked themselves, the major point of deliberation was: Would Gill return to T20Is and, if so, would he replace Axar Patel as the vice-captain? Well, both those questions were answered with an emphatic 'yes' by the selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar. Gill, who last played a T20I in the bilateral series in Sri Lanka where he was the deputy to Suryakumar Yadav, has been in impressive form since the IPL, and the selectors just couldn't ignore the current superstar of Indian cricket. However, his return will force a change in a settled batting order. Gujarat Titans' captain Gill scored 650 runs in this season's IPL, and he carried that blistering form to England in the five-Test series where he hammered four centuries en route to amassing a record 754 runs. 'The last time when he played T20Is for India, post the T20 World Cup (2024), when we went to Sri Lanka (in July 2024), not the tour of Zimbabwe. Another option is to play Gill at one-drop, which would mean sacrificing the talented Tilak Varma, who scored two back-to-back unbeaten centuries in the series against South Africa last November. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar welcomed the selection headache, saying it's Suryakumar and head coach Gautam Gambhir's problem to solve: 'There are more options for the top order now and Shubman has been in great form anyway. When they get to Dubai, they can decide on the playing XI according to the opposition and the conditions. It's their headache to pick the batting line-up, ours was to pick the 15.' Beyond Gill, there weren't any major surprises, barring the inclusion of lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah. While there wasn't much doubt about his place in the squad—considering the tournament is a major build-up event on the road to the T20 World Cup to be held in India and Sri Lanka early next year—the only point of concern was his workload. 'We have had a nice break from the England series. We are trying to look after him. Most fast bowlers are monitored and it won't change. How we require him for future tournaments is also important,' said Agarkar when asked about Bumrah's workload management.
