Murray's consistency leads to season-high eruption in Kings' win
Consistency can often lead to success.
Surely, that was Kings forward Keegan Murray's message after dropping a season-high 26 points in Sacramento's 118-101 road win over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night at Delta Center.
'I mean, just staying consistent,' Murray told NBC Sports California's Kyle Draper and Morgan Ragan.
'I just felt more involved today, coming down pindowns in transition and things like that. Just staying consistent in my work and knowing that things will change.'
On the floor, Murray was due for a big break, clearing the 20-point mark for the first time since Nov. 24.

In his best offensive game of the season, Murray shot 9 of 16 and 5 of 10 from beyond the arc, displaying his vast potential as one of Sacramento's X-factors on both sides of the floor.

Kings interim coach Doug Christie, more than most, knows there's tremendous upside to Murray's potential. So, the former guard is doing what he can to unlock the 24-year-old's untapped potential.
'I push him and prod and he laughs a lot, but he probably hates it,' Christie told reporters. 'But, it's my way to deal with him and bring out what I feel is inside of him.
'And there's a lot of good stuff in him, man. Like there's a quiet storm. My grandmother would say, 'Still waters run deep.'
'And I think when I look at him, there's an intensity inside of him, especially on the defensive end that I really like. And it looks like he's begging to find his way.'
Murray was one of seven Sacramento players to score in double-digits in the first of a four-game road trip.
All five starters scored in double digits, with center Jonas Valančiūnas chipping in 15 points and guard Keon Ellis contributing 11 points and two assists off the bench.
Although Murray's season has been marred with instability, the forward's recent consistent efforts to improve are in full effect.

Of course, the Kings have only one championship to their name, which came in 1951 when they were still the Rochester Royals. Despite the Kings' struggles over their franchise's history, they have produced a quite a few franchise legends and two of them made it onto Bleacher Report's list of the top 100 players in NBA history. The two players who made bleacher Report's list are Chris Weber, who was the 90th ranked player, and Oscar Robertson, who was ranked No. 14. For Webber, he dominated the first five seasons of his career with both the Golden State Warriors and Washington Bullets, now the Washington Wizards, but he turned into a superstar after being traded to Sacramento in 1998. In Sacramento, Webber blossomed into a star as he made four All-Star teams and was also a five-time All-NBA selection. Despite his success, the Kings were never able to make it over the hump and into the NBA Finals, mainly due to the dominance of the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs. While Webber found success in Sacramento, Robertson is known as arguably the greatest Kings player in the history of their franchise, though his career was spent went they were still known as the Cincinnati Royals. Robertson got off to a fast start in his career, winning Rookie of the Year and finishing fifth in the MVP race his rookie season. He then went on to win one MVP award during his career with the Kings and was also a 10-time All-Star and 10-time All-NBA selection and he also became the first player in league history to averaged a triple-double throughout the entirety of a season in 1961-62. Of course, Robertson left the Kings for the Milwaukee Bucks to join Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1970 where he won the only championship of his career. While these are the only two players the Kings had representing them on Bleacher Report's list, they hope that some of their current stars can eventually make it in the future. Can Viktor Arvidsson give the Bruins much-needed scoring punch?

Entering a contract season, Arvidsson believes the opportunity afforded in Boston to play for Sturm and potentially earn featured offensive reps was too good to pass up. 'I'm going to come there, play a responsible game, and I think Marco knows exactly what he's getting from me,' Arvidsson said. 'I'm going to help offensively and bring scoring. I know I can do that. I know I had a little bit of a tough time last year with that. I'm really confident that I'm going to make the team better. The Bruins are hoping the trade benefits all parties — especially if Arvidsson can add a scoring spark to a forward corps short on high-end talent. The Bruins' top priority this offseason was evident: more firepower up front. Despite David Pastrnak's continued brilliance (43 goals, 106 points) and a breakout season from Morgan Geekie (33 goals), Boston ranked 28th in goals per game, 29th in power-play percentage, and 29th in shots on goal per game. But the Bruins opted to focus most of their signings and offseason pickups on hard-nosed, bottom-six players such as Tanner Jeannot, Sean Kuraly, and Michael Eyssimont — with Arvidsson standing as the lone outlier as a winger with legitimate 20-goal upside. Beefing up the forward corps could make them tougher to play against, night in and night out. But if the Bruins still can't generate offense, they're seemingly set to get stung by the same flaws that dismantled all hope in 2024-25. As such, plenty is riding on Arvidsson to inject some offense into his new team, likely on a second line that could also feature Pavel Zacha and Casey Mittelstadt. Arvidsson's track record speaks for itself. He has scored 20 or more goals five times, including a pair of 30-plus-goal campaigns in 2016-17 (31) and 2018-19 (34) with the Predators. Advertisement But the last few seasons haven't been as fruitful for the Swede. Arvidsson dealt with injuries during the 2023-24 season with the Kings — undergoing back surgery in October before dealing with a nagging lower-body issue. In just 18 games, Arvidsson scored six goals and posted 15 points. With the Oilers, Arvidsson struggled to get into a rhythm further down the lineup, especially on a power-play unit where he has traditionally served in more of a net-front role. He scored just one goal and posted two assists on the Oilers' elite man-advantage. It was a far cry from the 2022-23 season, when Arvidsson had 10 goals and 15 assists on the power play for the Kings. 'A lot of factors played into it, I think,' Arvidsson said. 'I'm as responsible [for it] as everybody else was … I just have to look at myself as a person and a player. I truly believe that. And that's what I'm going to do.' With the Bruins, more featured reps should be available for Arvidsson — be it on the top power-play unit or on the second line, where his shoot-first approach should stand as a breath of fresh air. As Sturm prioritizes shot volume and pace, Arvidsson should be a willing participant. Of the 596 NHL players who logged at least 500 minutes of even-strength ice time last season, Arvidsson ranked 19th with 9.57 shots per 60 minutes Sturm and his staff are banking on a rebound season from a power-play unit that, personnel-wise, should have some upside. That optimism is echoed by Arvidsson, who said that Sturm served as his power-play coach in Los Angeles before becoming a head coach in the AHL. Advertisement 'I think it was a lot of communication between him and the players, how we were going to make it better, how we were going to be successful,' Arvidsson said of Sturm. 'It wasn't just X's and O's. It was trying to always and every day improve it, having a big bank of plays, situational plays that were effective. He played the game and he knows what it's all about.' If Arvidsson's skating ability can generate cleaner entries — and those wheels are utilized down low to recover pucks — he could be a remedy to the team's special-teams woes. 'Teams are killing in a certain way after taking away Pasta — you know you have to execute on the other side,' general manager Don Sweeney said of the Bruins' power-play struggles last season. 'But when that puck comes up top, it's supposed to go to the net — because that's what they're giving you. We weren't executing at the level you need to to be successful. 'And we need to do a better job. We have to take ownership of that. Our players have to take ownership of it. They didn't do a good enough job. They're more than capable. Valančiūnas trade to Nuggets made official following short-lived issue
DENVER (KDVR) — The Denver Nuggets announced on Sunday afternoon that the trade for Jonas Valančiūnas with the Sacramento Kings was made official following a spot of drama that temporarily threw a spanner in the works. The now completed trade sees Valančiūnas headed to the Mile High City in exchange for Dario Šarić, who is heading in the opposite direction to Sacramento. Fans excited by the news had a bit of rain on their parade as word got out that Valančiūnas was considering a move back to Europe, and that Greek basketball club Panathinaikos had offered the center a three-year contract worth 12 million euros, according to NBA Insider Marc Stein. However, the Nuggets said that the franchise intended to honor the contract in the trade with Sacramento and expected Valančiūnas to be part of the team. Bleacher Report reported that the trade would be completed by the end of the week, and on Sunday, that report held true. Advertisement Valančiūnas, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, has averaged a near double-double for his career and will provide a spark off the bench or might even suit up alongside Denver superstar Nikola Jokić in a double-big lineup next season.
