Rays option Taj Bradley to Triple-A Durham after poor start
Once a top pitching prospect, the 24-year-old Bradley was handed a 4-0 lead after the first inning against the last-place White Sox (37-66). But he couldn't get through the second, allowing four runs, four hits and three walks.
White Sox rookie Colson Montgomery tied the score with a three-run homer off Bradley.
'Tough decision, certainly, but felt like it's best for him to get down there right now,' Rays manager Kevin Cash said. 'He's got to get to work. ... It's probably a better environment for him to work rather than compete every single pitch. We know that Taj Bradley is massive to our success, and we need to get him back to the form that we know he's capable of.'
The move, described by team officials as a strategic reset rather than a disciplinary action, comes as Bradley's performance at the major league level has been inconsistent. Through 21 starts this season, he is 6–6 with a 4.61 ERA, raising concerns about his command and mental approach.
In the minors, Bradley will work to regain command of his secondary pitches such as his changeup and slider.
Meanwhile, the Rays plan to rely more heavily on pitchers such as Joe Boyle and Mason Englert to stabilize the rotation.

The Lakers' full 2025-26 preseason schedule has been revealed
It may be the middle of the summer, but before we know it, it will be time for NBA teams to report to training camp and start the new season. About two months ago, the Los Angeles Lakers announced their preseason schedule for the upcoming season. They will have games at Arena versus the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings, as well as a contest at Acrisure Arena in greater Palm Springs against the Phoenix Suns and one in Las Vegas against the Dallas Mavericks. Rahaman Ali, boxer and brother of boxing legend Muhammad Ali dies at 82
The brother of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali, Rahaman Ali, has died. The Muhammad Ali Center confirmed the passing of Rahaman Ali, who died on Friday, Aug. 1 at the age of 82. There was no cause of death mentioned in the news release. "You can't tell Muhammad's story without mentioning Rahaman," President and CEO of the Muhammad Ali Center DeVone Holt said in a statement. "He was one of the most constant sources of support for Muhammad during this career and their relationship was a true example of what it means to be 'my brother's keeper.'" The Louisville Courier, part of the USA TODAY Network, mentioned that Rahaman Ali, whose birth name is Rudolph Arnett Clay, went into the hospital on July 19 and remained in hospice care at Norton Audubon in Louisville, Kentucky. Noted in the Muhammad Ali Center's news release, Rahaman Ali followed in his older brother's footsteps and had a professional boxing career of his own, which spanned from 1964 to 1972. At the time of his retirement, Rahaman Ali compiled a record of 14-3-1. "When you saw people walk through the door and they saw Rahaman you would see their eyes light up almost as if they had already seen Muhammad himself," Holt told WDRB, a local Fox affiliate in Louisville, Kentucky, about Rahaman Ali and his presence at the Muhammad Ali Center. Former Iowa football running back accepts new coaching position
When players go through the Iowa football system, they become so much more knowledgeable of the game and can think football at a higher level than others. That's a big reason why so many Hawkeyes find their way into the NFL and usually stick around longer than some may expect. But for those who weren't able to make it to the league, that knowledge doesn't evaporate. Some players use it to be involved with the game in a different aspect: coaching. And this former Iowa football running back is the next in a great line of Hawkeyes turned into coaches. Bemidji State University football announced on X that it had hired former Hawkeye running back Ivory Kelly-Martin to be its running backs coach for the 2025 season. Bemidji State is a Division II school located in Bemidji, Minnesota. They compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). Kelly-Martin played at Iowa from 2017-2021, appearing in 44 games. He had 181 carries for 804 yards and six rushing touchdowns in those 44 games. He spent a lot of time backing up Tyler Goodson and providing valuable snaps. While he wasn't a star at Iowa, Kelly-Martin was well respected by his teammates and coaching staff and was a true steward of the game. That was evident with his inclusion on the 2021 Players Council. Before accepting this position with Bemidji State, Kelly-Martin was a graduate assistant running backs coach at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas. With his Master's in Business Administration all finished up, he can now start his coaching career with the Bemidji State Beavers.
