Crimson tide proves unstoppable in Duke of Cambridge
Fellow Gosden runner and defending champion Running Lion made a bold bid to make all but had no answer as Crimson Advocate (13-2) collared her inside the final furlong and pulled clear of 5-4 favourite Cinderella's Dream.
John Gosden said: 'We knew she would run a big race but I didn't expect her to go by those three fillies. Let's face it, Running Lion won it last year and the second and third are Group One fillies.
'I said to James to just get her settled and he did a beautiful job, he has really great hands and even though he hadn't ridden her before got a wonderful tune out of her.
'At the half-furlong marker I thought Running Lion had it and so did the commentator and then this filly came along with a wet sail – it was impressive for a filly who was a Queen Mary filly not so long ago.
'We gave her a long time off over the winter and worked on settling her and she ran really well in the Snowdrop and then Robert Havlin settled her at Goodwood and she got up and won.
'Full marks to Robert and Thady who have devoted their time to settling her and she's sat last here and then blown them away. I'm thrilled but this one is not much to do with me.'
Crimson Advocate was cut to 7-1 from 16s for the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket next month, but the team are yet to commit to their next move.
Gosden added: 'I haven't thought too far ahead and I thought she might get placed. But she's done that well and we'll have to readjust our sights.'
For New Zealander McDonald it was a fifth success at the Royal meeting having beaten off a bout of flu to ride for the Wathnan Racing team this week.
He said: 'You have no idea what a buzz it is to win here, it means so much, and you can see why everyone treats the week so seriously. It's a very special place and there's nothing better.
'It was still on the edge last week, I'm not sure what it was, maybe just a bad case of flu, but I would have to have broken a bone not to be here.
'I thought about a furlong out when Will (Buick, on Cinderella's Dream) didn't put them away I had a real chance.
'As a competitor, to ride for such strong stables is so nice. Wathnan is a huge team and James (Doyle, who rode Fallen Angel for Wathnan) has some huge decisions and once he's picked, it's nice to fill in where I can.'

Prestige run a possibility for Newbury victor Touleen
A daughter of Lope De Vega out of Group Three-winning mare Talaayeb, the Shadwell homebred was sent off favourite to make a successful start to her career for trainer Owen Burrows and obliged in some style. Shadwell's racing manager, Angus Gold, admitted the performance was beyond his expectations and is excited to see how she performs when upped in class. He said: 'We've made an entry for her in the Rockfel and the Fillies' Mile. I spoke to Owen briefly and he said he'll see how she is next week and he might think about putting her in the Prestige at Goodwood, or I believe there's a fillies' novice coming up at Newmarket possibly. 'Owen had only ever said she went all right. They took her for an away-day at Kempton and Jim (Crowley) liked the feel of her, but they didn't press any buttons. 'I think that experience stood her in good stead, she was in the right spot in the race and I loved the way she put the race to bed and kept going all the way to the line. 'It wasn't expected, but it was obviously very nice to see. We'll give her two or three more runs and see how she takes it all. She's not a big, robust filly so we'll just feel our way, but Owen is quite keen to get on and run her in the next three weeks or so.' Another horse held in high regard by the Shadwell team is Almeraq, who having bolted up in an Ayr handicap last month is set to have his sights raised, with Gold not ruling out the possibility of an immediate step up to Group One level in the Sprint Cup at Haydock. 'He was in a Listed race in France the other day (Prix Moonlight Cloud) but we thought it was going to be too quick,' he added. 'I think there is a Listed race at Newmarket at the end of next week (Hopeful Stakes) so we could look at that, depending on the weather. Or if necessary, if things aren't going to work and we want to take the bold route, we could go straight to Haydock for the Sprint Cup. 'We've missed a lot of the season with him, he's always been a potentially nice horse and there is no point going down the handicapping route, so let's just get on and see what the weather does and take it from there.'

Newsboy's horse racing selections for Friday's five meetings, including Thirsk nap
Newboy expects his nap, Mystical Storm, to blow away his rivals in the 7.10 at Thirsk for a second career win, and his also fancies Flowerhead at Newbury in the Berkshire card's feature Listed event at 4.45 MYSTICAL STORM is fancied to get back to winning ways by beating nine opponents for the Vision Windows 'A Clear Winner' Handicap (7.10) at Thirsk this evening. Julie Camacho's son of Harry Angel came third at Haydock Park and Redcar in two starts as a juvenile in 2024 and also took the bronze medal home from Teesside on his first start of this season at the beginning of May. Mystical Storm's disappointing 10th-of-11 finish on handicap debut back at Haydock three weeks later prompted his connections to book my selection in for wind surgery. And Ryan Sexton's mount showed the benefit of the surgeon's work with a length-and-a-quarter winning margin in a novice stakes at Doncaster on July 10. Returned to the handicap sphere, Mystical Storm came home fourth of 16 behind Chesneys Charm at York last time, but he did best of the horses with a single-figure draw and is worth backing from an unchanged British Horseracing Authority rating of 77 to double his career tally. Newbury stages the Listed Sequoia Hair & Spirit St Hugh's Stakes (4.45), in which FLOWERHEAD makes plenty of appeal. After a fine 100-1 second in Royal Ascot 's Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes, Charlie Clover's youngster performed to a similar level when fifth in the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes on the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes undercard back in Berkshire 20 days ago. The latter contest was over six furlongs and reverting to the minimum trip - and dropping in grade - should produce the desired effect.
