Leon Slater Wants Match With AJ Styles, ‘Had No Clue' About TNA Slammiversary Surprise
Slater won the X Division Championship at TNA Slammiversary. With the win, he also became the youngest title holder in TNA history. Slater spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard about what the win meant to him, calling it a childhood dream.
'I've been training since I was nine. And I've always wanted to be X-Division Champion. And it's almost like one of them things, people tell you, 'Oh, when you get kids, you are going to love it. When you get married, it's going to be the best day of your life.' And you know it's going to be amazing. But it feels so far off sometimes that you can't picture it being real,' Slater said.
'But now it's finally here, it doesn't feel real,' he continued. 'Because I've been on the chase and now, I've got it, it's like, 'Oh! Well, where do we go from here?' So, it was… To keep it short and sweet, Slammiversary was the best day of my life. Couple days later, I'm still trying to recoup. I'm still trying to come down off that high. But, it feels great to finally accomplish what I've been striving after.'
Leon Slater reacts to AJ Styles' return to TNA at Slammiversary
Leon Slater was also shocked when AJ Styles made his way to the ring after his title win. Styles was advertised for Slammiversary in advance, but no one knew what he was doing on the show. This includes Slater, who had no clue the Phenomenal One was coming to the ring.
'1000% [AJ Styles appearing after my watch was a surprise to me] bruh. I think if I had known it ahead of time, I would have played it a lot cooler instead of jumping around like a little six-year-old,' Slater joked. 'But yeah, man, I had no clue.'
Slater grew up a TNA kid and AJ Styles was his favorite wrestler. He won the title, had Moose put him over after the match, and didn't think it could get any better. However, Styles' surprise appearance only added to his night.
'[I thought] 'Man, I don't know if it could get any better.' Then, I remember, I was on my knees looking at the belt, I was like, 'We did it, we did it, we did it.' And then, Get Ready to Fly hits, and I hopped onto my feet, and I was jumping around, I am running around, I'm losing my mind, just like everyone else in the building. Looking back on it, I'm really glad I had no clue. Because I think that genuine reaction, topped with what everyone else in the building was feeling. And yeah, AJ coming out was a huge surprise and it's something that I am never going to forget.'
Leon Slater on how much he knew heading into his match at Slammiversary
Slater confirmed that he didn't know anything about AJ Styles' appearance. He knew his family would be involved in the celebration, but he didn't know anything else, including Moose paying him respect and putting the belt around his waist.
'No. So, literally everything like all the… I suppose the drama and antics after the match was completely out there. The only thing that I knew that I was going to do was run to my family. Because obviously, they made the trip over from the UK and I feel like, with the story that we have told, family was a big part of it. So, I knew that the production team would want a shot with me and the fam,' Slater explained. 'So, I definitely knew I was going to run over to them and get that shot. But once we got past that point, I was walking through it blind, man. And it worked out for the best. So, I am super super grateful.'
As for what's next, Slater has a few opponents in mind. That also includes AJ Styles.
'…Any of them boys want to step up, I'm more than happy to take challenges from there,' Slater said. 'Or even if you think you are 'Phenomenal' and you want to step to the boy, I'm here for it too, man.'
During his speech at Slammiversary, Styles mentioned he would 'get back to' talking about another match in TNA once he addressed Slater. Pritchard pointed out that Styles didn't address it again that night, but Slater seemed keen to make it happen.
'Maybe so. Maybe so. I mean, the first X-Division Champion versus the youngest ever, definitely sounds pretty cool to me at least.'
Leon Slater's first official appearance as X Division Champion will take place on TNA's live broadcast of Impact! on Thursday night. TNA will be live from the Ryan Center at the University of Rhode Island on Thursday, along with a TV taping on Friday night.

Archie Manning says Arch 'isn't going to' leave Texas for 2026 NFL Draft
Don't be shocked if Arch Manning spends more than one season as the starter at Texas. The redshirt sophomore enters the 2025 season as the Heisman favorite and a ton of expectations as he takes over the starting quarterback job from Quinn Ewers. If Manning has an excellent season, he's seen as the possible No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. If he leaves school. In an interview with Texas Monthly for a feature on his grandson, Archie Manning said that he expected Arch to be at Texas in 2026. From Texas Monthly: "As the season approaches, many of the same people who have already awarded Arch the Heisman and the national championship are predicting that he will also be the number one NFL draft choice in 2026. Stories abound about how NFL teams could position themselves to get him, though there is no reason to believe he would leave Texas next year, with or without a championship ring. His grandfather says he hasn't discussed it with Arch, but he knows his grandson: 'Arch isn't going to do that. He'll be at Texas.' The Mannings are buying exactly none of this hype. It feels, to them, like a setup. 'People are saying he's a Heisman candidate,' said Archie, the scorn building in his voice. 'You're not a Heisman Trophy candidate when you haven't played but three games. It's crazy.' Since the 2025 season is Manning's third in Austin, he's eligible for the draft next season. And even though he's only played part-time — and only started when Ewers missed time due to an oblique injury in 2024 — the rumor mill has already run wild regarding the Cleveland Browns' alleged interest in drafting him next season. But there are myriad reasons why it makes sense for Manning to stay in school for another year. His uncles Peyton and Eli didn't leave school after their third seasons for the NFL. Peyton sent four seasons at Tennessee and was second in the Heisman voting to Charles Woodson in 1997. Eli spent four seasons at Ole Miss and was third in the Heisman voting in 2003. Both were No. 1 overall picks in the NFL Draft. Peyton and Eli also stayed in school during a time where college athletes were officially prohibited from making money off their name and image rights. Arch is already cashing in at Texas with numerous endorsement deals and can continue to make even more money in a fourth season with the Longhorns. Plus, another year of development under a coach like Steve Sarkisian can also be a significant benefit for Manning's NFL future. Sarkisian is known as one of the most innovative offensive minds in college football and has experience as an NFL offensive coordinator. While it wouldn't be a total shock if Manning left Texas after the season — especially if the Longhorns win the title and he wins the Heisman — it doesn't seem wise to pencil him in at the top of next year's draft.

JD Vance reacts to brutal parody in latest 'South Park' episode
Vice President JD Vance doesn't sound too upset about his "South Park" debut. The vice president reacted on X after being spoofed in the latest episode of the Comedy Central series, which depicted him as a servant of President Donald Trump. "Well, I've finally made it," Vance wrote on X on Thursday, Aug. 7, in response to a photo of his portrayal on the show. The latest "South Park" episode, titled "Got a Nut," ends with a sequence set at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort. Both Trump and Vance appear on screen, using photos of them crudely placed on animated bodies. The Vance spoof appeared to be inspired by Hervé Villechaize's sidekick character, Tattoo, from the '70s and '80s ABC series "Fantasy Island." Vance in the episode is physically and verbally abused by Trump, who calls him "stupid" and at one point kicks him until he flies off screen. In another scene, he offers to rub baby oil on Trump's lover, Satan. The main plot of the episode involves school counselor Mr. Mackey joining Immigration and Customs Enforcement because he is in desperate need of money. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is mocked throughout and shown repeatedly shooting dogs, a reference to the fact that she once shot and killed an "untrainable" dog. This was the latest chapter in an ongoing feud between "South Park" and the White House, which began with the Season 27 premiere on July 23. The episode, "Sermon on the 'Mount," had Trump get into bed with Satan, and it presented him as a thin-skinned bully who threatens to sue anyone who crosses him. After uproar, 'South Park' pummels Trump again and hits at JD Vance, Kristi Noem That episode concluded with the town of South Park settling a lawsuit from the president by agreeing to do pro-Trump messaging, leading into a public service announcement that shows Trump walking through a desert and removing his clothes until he is completely naked. White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers fired back at the Season 27 premiere in a statement provided to USA TODAY on July 24. White House: 'South Park' hasn't 'been relevant for over 20 years' after Trump parody "The Left's hypocrisy truly has no end — for years they have come after 'South Park' for what they labeled as 'offense' (sic) content, but suddenly they are praising the show," Rogers said. "Just like the creators of 'South Park,' the Left has no authentic or original content, which is why their popularity continues to hit record lows." The statement continued, "This show hasn't been relevant for over 20 years and is hanging on by a thread with uninspired ideas in a desperate attempt for attention. President Trump has delivered on more promises in just six months than any other president in our country's history — and no fourth-rate show can derail President Trump's hot streak." The Aug. 6 episode, "Got a Nut," appeared to confirm that Trump and his relationship with Satan will be an ongoing storyline throughout Season 27. Why Bears fans should be rooting for Tyrique Stevenson to win CB2 job
The Chicago Bears have a handful of positional battles going on at training camp, including the battle for the second cornerback spot opposite Pro Bowler Jaylon Johnson. With Johnson nursing a leg injury suffered while training before camp, it's been a duo of Tyrique Stevenson and Nahshon Wright running with the starters (with Terell Smith rotating in with Stevenson at times). In Johnson's absence, Wright has been great. Stevenson hasn't been bad by any means, but Wright has been noticeable, which has created a competition between the two. Earlier this summer, defensive coordinator Dennis Allen proclaimed the job is 'completely up for grabs'. As camp progresses, that becomes increasingly believable. With that said, it's fair to root for Stevenson to win the job ahead of Week 1. If you believe that a football team has the best chance to win when they start their most talented players, then you'd like to see Stevenson out there in Week 1's tilt against the Minnesota Vikings. He's the second-most talented cornerback on the roster after Johnson. Did Stevenson make a bad mistake on the Hail Mary play against the Washington Commanders? Of course, he did. Matt Eberflus didn't do a good enough job holding him accountable for it either. As we've seen in training camp so far this summer, however, Ben Johnson is a different kind of head coach. He's holding everyone accountable, and that includes Stevenson. Don't think the new head coach or defensive coordinator doesn't know what happened last year. There is a higher standard going forward. It's good to see that Stevenson has to earn the trust of the new coaching staff. It's on him to take that job and run with it. As far as getting the best talent on the field for as many snaps as possible, Stevenson fits the mold better than anybody in the cornerback room, except for Jaylon Johnson.
