Sequel to Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz's beloved 90s rom-com ‘My Best Friend's Wedding' announced

New York Post5 days ago
An Oscar-nominated director has been hired to pen a sequel to classic '90s rom-com 'My Best Friend's Wedding.'
The original film, starring Cameron Diaz and Julia Roberts, became a box office success upon its release in 1997.
The movie has since gone on to be considered one of the most iconic films within its genre.
It featured Roberts and Dermot Mulroney as Julianne and Michael, a pair of best friends who made a pact that if they were still single at age 28, they would get married.
When Mulroney's character gets engaged to another women, played by Diaz, Roberts had just four days to stop the wedding.
Director Celine Song, best known for her Oscar nominated romantic drama Past Lives, has been hired by Sony to write the script for the sequel.
Song had another hit this year with follow-up The Materialists starring Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal.
'My Best Friend's Wedding' premiered in 1997.
Official news of a sequel to 'My Best Friend's Wedding' comes shortly after Mulroney revealed that 'there is talk of a sequel' during an interview with the New York Post.
When asked about the potential for a follow-up, he said: 'I know nothing about it. Last I heard, quote, lawyers were talking, unquote.'
The original was a big hit when it was released, earning $127 million in the US and three Golden Globe nominations in best musical and comedy, as well as acting nods for Roberts and Rupert Everett.
Cameron Diaz and Julia Roberts starred in the box office hit.
It comes after it was announced that yet another classic movie is getting a sequel after more than two decades.
Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha has confirmed she is working on a sequel to the hit 2002 film, which starred Keira Knightley and Parminder Nagra.
It will be released in 2027 in honour of Bend It Like Beckham's 25th anniversary and also to coincide with the FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil.
Chadha told the BBC she'd received requests for a follow-up 'almost twice a week' since the release of the original, which was made on a $7.2 million budget and became a box office hit, making around $120 million worldwide.
'We've been part of changing the game for women, so it felt like this was a good time for me to go back and investigate the characters,' she explained.
It's not yet clear whether the new instalment will be a film or TV series, but Chadha said she hoped to reunite some of the original cast members.

Need a camera to play Super Mario Jamboree? These are the Switch 2 cameras I'd grab right now

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. The Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Jamboree dropped last month, bringing with it a smorgasbord of brand-new features. There's new mini-games that utilize the Joy-Con 2 controllers' mouse controls, more rule sets, GameShare support, and most importantly, the game now makes the most of the new gaming handheld and its camera capabilities. If you have one of the best Switch 2 cameras at the ready, you can let your friends see your cheeky face as you steal stars, or as you shed a tear or two when the RNG doesn't quite go your way. Better yet, there's a new Bowser Live mode, which is entirely built around camera support with Sony Eye Toy-like gameplay for up to 4 players, which is entirely dependent on owning a camera. If you don't have one, don't fret. There's a whole bunch of compatible webcams out there for you to try out - so long as it uses a USB-C cable, you should be good to go. But for those of you who'd prefer the reassurance of an official first-party version, whether it's for some reassurance or you need the cute Hori Piranha Plant camera in your life, I've picked out all the official ones out there down below. The official Nintendo Switch 2 Camera isn't much to look at, but it will make your face look crystal clear with its 1080p resolution and it's handheld-mod ready too, so long as you have a spare surface for it to sit Hori USB Camera is compact in size and more ideal for those with limited space for their Switch 2 accessories, and you can even plug it directly into the top USB-C port of the Ninty handheld for some portable Super Mario Party Jamboree Hori Piranha Plant Camera is one of the most iconic official Switch 2 accessories so far, and transforms the iconic baddie into an adorable 480p camera, which can be used with the dock or on the buy a Switch 2 camera for Super Mario Jamboree? The brand-new Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Jamboree launched on July 24, and like the rest of the existing Switch 2 games lineup, it makes the most of the camera compatibility to introduce new game modes to spice things up a bit. Naturally, that means if you want to take advantage of everything the new version has to offer, you'll need either an official Switch 2 camera or a compatible webcam. Without them, you can still destroy friendships and play through the seven existing boards and game modes, but the brand-new Bowser Live segment relies entirely on the existence of a camera in order to place you, and three of your best pals, into the game. Nintendo Switch 2 Camera Resolution: 1080pConnectivity: USB-CHandheld mode compatible? Yes Great for: ✅ Super Mario Jamboree✅ Those with the space for its stand✅ Switch 2 GameChat Avoid if: ❌ You hate the boring design❌ You play mostly in handheld mode Compatible with: Game Chat, Mario Kart World, Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV View Deal The official Nintendo Switch 2 camera isn't that exciting to look at, but what it lacks in looks, it makes up for in specs - especially compared to the rest of the official Switch 2 camera lineup. The camera, which is still available for $54 at Amazon has a resolution of 1080p, which is pretty much what you'd want from any webcam, never mind one intended specifically for your new Ninty console. Even with a 1080p resolution, you'll still want to ensure your Switch 2 environment is as well-lit as possible, as this will go a long way in ensuring you and your friends appear nice and clear in Super Mario Jamboree - trust me, catching a glimpse of your friends' star envy in real-time and in his-res is worth it. It might not look it, but the official Switch 2 camera can also be used in handheld mode, so you can curl up on the sofa with Jamboree while re-watching the Super Mario Bros Movie on your TV. It still requires a flat surface to rest on, so it's not the most portable friendly camera of this bunch, so make sure you have a flat surface going spare first. Hori USB Camera for Nintendo Switch 2 Resolution: 480pConnectivity: USB-CHandheld mode compatible? Yes Great for: ✅ Super Mario Jamboree✅ Conserving Switch 2 gaming space✅ Handheld mode fans Avoid if: ❌ You don't want a 480p camera❌ You'd prefer a Switch 2 camera with a cute aesthetic Compatible with: Game Chat, Mario Kart World, Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV View Deal The Hori USB Camera for Nintendo Switch 2 isn't the best quality camera out of the bunch, as it only has a 480p resolution. That being said, if you're someone who wants to curl up on the sofa and play Super Mario Jamboree in handheld mode without giving up your camera capabilities, this is the camera for you. Hori's camera can attach directly to the top USB-C port of your Switch 2 and go with you wherever you please. This is less helpful for playing Bowser Live, and more helpful for GameChat, as your video chats with your friends don't have to end just because you want to pop a TV show on in the background and roam about your Hori camera also comes with a built-in sliding lens for privacy, and it has an adjustable neck so you can get the best viewing angle to show off your pretty face while playing Super Mario Party Jamboree, or even Mario Kart World, for that matter. HORI Piranha Plant Camera for Nintendo Switch 2 Resolution: 480pConnectivity: USB-CHandheld mode compatible? Yes Great for: ✅ Super Mario Jamboree✅ Die-hard Super Mario fans✅ Privacy-conscious players ✅ Those who need their Switch 2 setup as cute as possible Avoid if: ❌ Having a 1080p camera is a must❌ You're more of a Goomba fan Compatible with: Game Chat, Mario Kart World, Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV View Deal If you want a camera that evokes the same childlike wonder as playing through your favorite Nintendo games, the Hori Piranha Plant Switch 2 is the one for you. Out of every single officially licenced Switch 2 accessory so far, it's undoubtedly the most adorable as it takes the iconic and ferocious Mario baddie and transforms it into a practical bit of gaming tech. This camera won't chuck fireballs your way, but its mouth can be closed to act as a privacy slider, it has an adjustable stem, and it can be hooked up to your Switch 2 via your Switch 2 dock, or the USB-C port on your handheld itself. To do this, all you have to do is dislodge the Piranha Plant from its Mario pipe base and pop it into the USB-C port on the top of your handheld, and viola - all the fun Super Mario Jamboree times can be had. Just like the HORI USB camera, you've only got a 480p resolution at play here, which is a bit of a bummer. Again, the best way to circumnavigate any blurry imagery on-screen is to ensure your room is as well-lit as humanely possible. Whether you care more about your Switch 2 camera aesthetics than the picture quality is up to you, but 480p is still plenty to get the most out of Super Mario Jamboree. BBC launches investigation into Strictly Come Dancing ‘drug use'

The BBC is investigating two Strictly Come Dancing stars for alleged drug use during their time on the show, it has been reported. The unnamed individuals are said to have regularly used cocaine, with their behaviour widely talked about among the programme's team, according to The Sun. The allegations were first made to the BBC in March of this year by a legal team at the firm Russells, acting on behalf of a former celebrity contestant. According to the report, the BBC has hired law firm Pinsent Masons to lead the investigation. It is not unusual for an external team to be hired to work on a BBC-led investigation, who then report back to an internal team at the company. Other individuals are also said to have complained about drug use on the beleaguered programme. 'We have clear protocols and policies in place for dealing with any serious complaint raised with us,' a BBC spokesperson told The Independent. 'We would always encourage people to speak to us if they have concerns. It would not be appropriate for us to comment further.' The news comes at a difficult time for the programme, which has been hit with repeated scandals and controversies over recent months. Professional dancer Giovanni Pernice was investigated for his behaviour towards one of the show's celebrity contestants, Sherlock star Amanda Abbington, after she said she was subjected to a 'toxic environment' and 'inappropriate, mean, nasty bullying' in September 2023. The outcome of a BBC review in September 2024 resulted in no findings relating to physical aggression but upheld accusations of swearing and giving negative feedback. Pro dancer Graziano Di Prima was also dropped from the show in July 2024 amid allegations about his behaviour towards Love Island star Zara McDermott. This was then followed by controversy surrounding the conduct of GoCompare opera singer Wynne Evans, who apologised for 'inappropriate and unacceptable' remarks made during the Strictly live tour in December last year. EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick was also suspended from the BBC in June this year after he was accused of using an offensive term towards people with disabilities during his time on the programme. He apologised and said the terminology was 'entirely unacceptable'. Strictly implemented new rules in an effort to prevent further issues, including adopting chaperones during training sessions. Welfare producers were also added to the team, and training was provided for dancers, production team, and crew.

Where is Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins filmed in 2025? Inside the rugged Welsh location and why it was chosen

The new series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins has been filmed in the "home" of the SAS, according to the show's professional trainers, and will see the celebs face the "hardest course yet". Speaking to the BBC, the show's chief instructor Billy Billingham opened up about the filming location of the latest celebrity series – starting tonight (Sunday 3 August) – which is in Wales for the first time. Ahead of the premiere on Channel 4 at 9pm, we've taken a deep dive into the location of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins 2025 to find out more about this breathtakingly rugged landscape, and why it was chosen for the series. Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins 2025 was filmed in Anglesey, which is an island off the northwest coast of Wales. "It's beautiful, of course, but it's unforgiving. It's a great test ground," chief instructor Billy said of the new location on BBC Radio Wales. "You can have four seasons in one day." Adding to that, a Channel 4 press release described the filming location as the "hardest course yet" for the celebrity contestants. "The elite team of ex-Special Forces soldiers are taking these famous faces to Wales," the press release noted. Wales marks the "home of the first phase" of this SAS series, and there the contestants will "be stripped of their home comforts, families, agents and social media." "It's a birthplace of the special forces, the SAS, where we do all our training in Wales," Billy added of the location. For that reason, Billy says he and the other staffers have been wanting the show to "come home". "We've been wanting to come home, as we call it, for a long time," he explained, adding that Wales' rugged landscape and often harsh weather is a "test in itself" for the contestants. "It sounds exotic to go to New Zealand and Australia and all these places," Billy went on. "But it was great to come home. It offers everything we want." Previously, one season of the civilian edition was filmed in Wales, but this is the first time that the celebrities will be heading to Cymru for their SAS training. For other seasons, the show has taken contestants across the globe, filming everywhere from Scotland to Morocco, Chile, Vietnam and New Zealand. This year there's a new list of celebs taking on the SAS challenge on Channel 4. Here's who will be competing in Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins 2025... Head here for more on the Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins cast, and our verdict on the contestant most likely to win. Holiday to Anglesey, anyone?
