YSR Congress Party politicising Simhachalam wall collapse tragedy, alleges Bheemunipatnam MLA

The Hindu02-05-2025
Bheemunipatnam MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao on Friday criticised former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and the YSRCP leaders for allegedly politicising the recent wall collapse tragedy atop Simhachalam Hill during Chandanotsavam festival on April 30. He accused the YSRCP leaders of attempting to gain political mileage from the unfortunate incident, in which seven people lost their lives.
Addressing a press conference at his residence on Friday, Mr. Srinivasa Rao found fault with Mr. Jagan and the YSRCP leaders calling the Simhachalam accident as 'political murders'.
He reminded some of the incidents during the year 2019-24 under the former YSRCP government, which include Kachuluru boat accident in which 47 were killed, 37 people died after Annamayya Dam breached, 12 people died in LG Polymers gas leak in Visakhapatnam, 11 died in RUIA hospital oxygen dip in Tirupati, 11 died in a crane accident, 10 dead in a fire accident in COVID-19 care centre in Vijayawada, 13 died after drinking sanitiser in Pamuru in Prakasam and over 40 died after consuming contaminated arrack at Jangareddygudam.
He also said that during 2019-23, as many as 43 industrial accidents occurred in undivided Visakhapatnam district, in which 91 people died.
'Accidents can happen under any government due to various reasons,' said Mr. Srinivasa Rao. 'It is deeply unfortunate that YSRCP leaders are labelling every incident, including the Simhachalam tragedy, as a political murder. During the YSRCP's government, the TDP never politicised incidents involving the loss of lives. What truly matters is how the government responds and the extent of support provided to the victims.'
₹1 crore ex gratia
Mr. Srinivasa Rao said that, apart from the LG Polymers incident, the YSRCP government never offered an ex gratia of ₹1 crore in any other accident case across the State. Mr. Srinivasa Rao criticised the party for setting ₹1 crore as a benchmark and demanding it for all incidents. The Bheemunipatnam MLA also took a jibe at Mr. Jagan, questioning his promise to give ₹1 crore ex gratia to the Simhachalam victims if he comes to power again, calling it unrealistic and misleading.
Mr. Srinivasa Rao also alleged that under the YSRCP government, the Hindu temples were neglected. He said that the Union government has sanctioned ₹54 crore as part of PRASAD scheme to take up development projects. However till the year 2024, only 5% works were taken up. This reflects the commitment of the YSRCP to develop temples.
He also reiterated that the State government has constituted a three-member committee which has already inspected the accident site. He said that whoever may be involved in the accident, will not be spared and strict action will be initiated against them.
When asked about the possibility of conducting a 'samprokshana' ritual at Simhachalam following the recent accident, Mr. Srinivasa Rao stated that, according to the temple priests, the incident did not take place in the 'Mada Veedhulu' (temple's sacred outer streets). However, respecting the sentiments of the devotees, the priests have decided to perform the 'samprokshana' and a 'Santi Homam' on May 3.

Hema Malini under fire for alleged remark asking locals to leave over Bankey Bihari corridor plan

Mathura MP Hema Malini has found herself at the centre of controversy after a video surfaced in which she allegedly said that those opposing the proposed Bankey Bihari corridor 'may have to leave and go elsewhere.' The reported comment has sparked anger among local residents, priests, and even leaders from her own party. Many believe the statement is disrespectful to the people who have lived and served in Vrindavan for generations. 'Lord Krishna Teaches Everyone' Gyanendra Kishor Goswami, a priest at the Bankey Bihari temple, criticised the remark by recalling a story from Hindu mythology. 'Lord Krishna humbled the pride of Indra. Hema ji should remember that before telling us to leave Brijbhoomi,' he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Top Game Deals – Up to 90% Off! And now, so arrogantly, she is asking us to leave,' he said, adding that the corridor may be meant for 'certain affluent people,' not the ordinary devotees. Fear of Losing Heritage The Bankey Bihari corridor is being planned to improve facilities and manage large crowds of pilgrims. However, many locals, especially the Goswami community and small shopkeepers, are afraid they will lose their homes, shops, and the very essence of Vrindavan's heritage. Live Events Local businessman Anil Gautam said, 'We elected her three times from Mathura and Vrindavan, hoping she would work for us. Now she's asking us to leave. This is very hurtful.' Criticism from BJP Leader Even members of the BJP have voiced their disapproval. Madhu Sharma, former BJP district president in Mathura, said, 'We don't expect such comments from our MP.' She firmly added, 'We are Brijwasi. We were born here and will die here. Outsiders don't have the right to tell us to go.' She also pointed out that if Hema Malini had shown the same urgency for solving other local issues, Vrindavan would already be a smart city. Inputs from agencies

BJP govt did some things purposely as a result such things are happening: Raj Babbar on language row in Maharashtra

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 5 (ANI): Reacting to the viral video in which a group of men allegedly associated with a regional party beat up a shop owner for not speaking in Marathi, Congress leader Raj Babbar alleged that the BJP government was responsible for such acts and he hoped that a respectable outcome would be achieved. Raj Babbar said, 'It's not about Hindu-Muslim. The whole issue is about prioritising Marathi over Hindi in Maharashtra. In every state, people are demanding that their regional language be given preference, and that is what the people of Maharashtra have also been doing. This situation could have been solved. In the past, such questions were not raised in Maharashtra on the language issue. The BJP government did some things on purpose, because of which such things are happening. We hope that a respectable solution comes out of the whole issue instead of taking a hardline stand. Maharashtra wants to take pride in its language.' Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray launched a veiled attack on Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and said that the Chief Minister did what could not be possible for Balasaheb Thackeray, as he brought the two estranged brothers of the Thackeray family together. Shiv Sena (UBT) Chief Uddhav Thackeray and MNS chief Raj Thackeray shared a hug at the Worli Dome in Mumbai as they held a joint rally after the Maharashtra government scrapped two Government Resolutions (GRs) to introduce Hindi as the third language. Thackeray brothers garlanded the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the joint rally of their parties, Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) at Worli Dome in Mumbai. Addressing the gathering, Raj Thackeray said, 'I had said in one of my interviews that my Maharashtra is bigger than any politics and fight. Today, after 20 years, Uddhav and I have come together. What Balasaheb could not do, Devendra Fadnavis did it... The work of bringing both of us together.' 'Minister Dada Bhuse came to me and requested me to listen to his point. I asked him what the third language would be for Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Rajasthan. All the Hindi-speaking states are behind us, and we are ahead of all Hindi-speaking states; still, we are being forced to learn Hindi. Why?. I don't have anything against Hindi; no language is bad. It takes a lot of effort to build a language. We Marathi people ruled over a lot of states during the Maratha Empire, but we never enforced Marathi on those parts. They started with the experiment of imposing Hindi over us and were trying to test if we would not have opposed it, they would have gone up to making Mumbai separate from Maharashtra,' he added. He further asked if anyone would raise a question about his pride in Marathi. He further said, 'They say that our children have learnt in English medium schools. So what? Dada Bhuse studied in Marathi schools and became a minister. Devendra Fadnavis studied in an English-medium school and became the Maharashtra CM. So what? I would tell you that I studied in a Marathi school, but my father, Shrikant Thackeray, and uncle, Balasaheb Thackeray, studied in an English medium school. Can anyone raise a question about their love for Marathi? Tomorrow, I will learn Hebrew also. Will anyone raise a question about my pride in Marathi?' Earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday warned of strict legal action against those engaging in 'hooliganism' in the name of Marathi. He said that the Mahayuti government will not tolerate violence against commoners. 'It is not wrong to be proud of the Marathi language in Maharashtra. But if someone indulges in hooliganism due to language, we will not tolerate it. If someone beats up people based on language, this will not be tolerated. The police have filed an FIR and taken action on the incident, and if anyone creates such a language dispute in future, legal action will be taken,' Fadnavis told reporters here. He also pointed out that the people engaging in 'hooliganism' amid the ongoing controversy over language in Maharashtra were those who embrace English but create dispute over Hindi. 'We are proud of our Marathi, but injustice cannot be done to any language of India in this manner; we will have to keep this in mind. And sometimes, I am surprised that these people embrace English and create disputes over Hindi. What kind of thinking is this, and what kind of action is this? Therefore, strict action will be taken against those who take the law into their own hands,' Fadnavis said. (ANI)

AP: YSRCP accuses Govt of harassing mango farmers before Ex-CM's visit

Tirupati, July 5 (UNI) Former TTD Chairman and former MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy has strongly condemned the coalition government for its oppressive tactics against mango farmers in Chittoor district and its attempts to obstruct former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's visit to Bangarupalyam on July 9. Speaking to the media here on Saturday ,Bhumana criticized the government for intimidating farmers to prevent them from attending YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's visit, spreading false propaganda about its cancellation, and failing to support farmers facing severe losses. The former MLA highlighted the government's neglect to ensure fair prices for mango farmers, forcing many to destroy their orchards due to financial distress. He cited the case of T Kumar from Tumindagu village, who was fined Rs. 12,750 by forest officials for cutting down 16 mango trees, an act driven by the lack of viable returns and government support. 'This is the coalition's tyranny, punishing farmers for their desperation while failing to address their plight,' Bhumana said. He contrasted this with Karnataka, where NDA leaders secured Rs 16 per kg for farmers, while Andhra Pradesh's government remained indifferent, holding superficial meetings with pulp factories to falsely claim support. Despite obstacles, Bhumana asserted that YS Jagan's visit to meet distressed farmers is confirmed. 'No amount of intimidation or denial of permissions will stop YS Jagan from standing with farmers,' he declared, noting that YSRCP has twice requested the district collector for security and permissions. He also dismissed Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan's remarks as irrelevant, urging the government to focus on farmers' welfare instead of suppressing their voices. 'Farmers are ready to share their grievances with former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and the government's attempts to silence them only expose their failures,' he said, vowing that YSRCP will continue to fight for farmers' rights.
