Hema Malini under fire for alleged remark asking locals to leave over Bankey Bihari corridor plan

Time of India11 hours ago
Mathura MP Hema Malini has found herself at the centre of controversy after a video surfaced in which she allegedly said that those opposing the proposed Bankey Bihari corridor 'may have to leave and go elsewhere.'
The reported comment has sparked anger among local residents, priests, and even leaders from her own party. Many believe the statement is disrespectful to the people who have lived and served in Vrindavan for generations.
'Lord Krishna Teaches Everyone'
Gyanendra Kishor Goswami, a priest at the Bankey Bihari temple, criticised the remark by recalling a story from Hindu mythology. 'Lord Krishna humbled the pride of Indra. Hema ji should remember that before telling us to leave Brijbhoomi,' he said.

Another priest, Rasik Bihari Goswami, expressed disappointment. 'She never came to speak to those affected by the corridor plan. And now, so arrogantly, she is asking us to leave,' he said, adding that the corridor may be meant for 'certain affluent people,' not the ordinary devotees.
Fear of Losing Heritage
The Bankey Bihari corridor is being planned to improve facilities and manage large crowds of pilgrims. However, many locals, especially the Goswami community and small shopkeepers, are afraid they will lose their homes, shops, and the very essence of Vrindavan's heritage.
Live Events
Local businessman Anil Gautam said, 'We elected her three times from Mathura and Vrindavan, hoping she would work for us. Now she's asking us to leave. This is very hurtful.'
Criticism from BJP Leader
Even members of the BJP have voiced their disapproval. Madhu Sharma, former BJP district president in Mathura, said, 'We don't expect such comments from our MP.' She firmly added, 'We are Brijwasi. We were born here and will die here. Outsiders don't have the right to tell us to go.'
She also pointed out that if Hema Malini had shown the same urgency for solving other local issues, Vrindavan would already be a smart city.

We negotiate from position of strength, not under deadlines

Bengaluru: With the Congress mocking the BJP-led NDA government over the proposed trade deal with the US, Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday said India negotiates from a position of strength and not under deadlines. He also accused the Congress of 'negotiating and signing agreements that were not in the national interest' during the party-led UPA government's tenure. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, had attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the Indo-US trade deal, claiming the PM will 'meekly bow' to the tariff deadline set by the President Trump administration. 'India does not negotiate under deadlines. We negotiate keeping national interest in mind, and national interest is paramount in all our engagements across the world,' Goyal, Commerce and Industry minister, told reporters here. 'After the Modi government came to power, we have signed free trade agreements with Mauritius, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, and the four-nation EFTA (European Free Trade Association) grouping—Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein—and now with the UK last month.' According to him, India continues to engage with other developed nations, including the EU bloc of 27 countries, the US, Oman, Peru, and Chile. 'Today, India negotiates from a position of strength. We are self-confident and can compete with anybody in the world. . This is not the weak India under Congress and the UPA, which signed agreements that were not in the national interest,' he claimed. Goyal had earlier stated that India would accept the proposed trade deal with the US only when it is fully finalised and in the national interest.

The BJP had promised to provide two crore jobs every year, but there is nothing on the ground. The youth of the country need employment today, and Rahul Gandhi is the only leader who is constantly fighting for it, from Parliament to the streets. On this occasion, the National President of the Indian Youth Congress, Uday Bhanu Chib, said that the BJP gave us unemployment. In response to that, we organised a job fair. The Youth Congress's job fair is not just an event; it is a campaign of those who believe in the vision of Rahul Gandhi. According to the press release, Delhi Pradesh Congress President Devendra Yadav said, "This Rojgar Mela, organised by Indian Youth Congress and Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, is not an ordinary event; it is a concrete effort to provide jobs to the youth! The government has now become silent after promising 2 crore jobs every year. Now there is no talk, nor is there any answer. Therefore, now the opposition has taken the responsibility that if the government backs down, we will go ahead and get the youth their rights!" Speaking to ANI, Congress leader Bajrang Punia said, "I want to congratulate IYC and all Congress leaders for organising this job fair. BJP did not stand up to its promises, which is why the opposition is taking up the task of providing jobs to unemployed youth of the country."
