Dodgers Reportedly Checking In On Guardians Lockdown Closer For Bullpen Reinforcements

The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to defend their World Series championship, and after enduring many injuries to their bullpen this season, are looking for reinforcements at the deadline. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Dodgers have been inquiring about Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase.

Photo byThe Guardians aren't currently looking to trade Clase as reported by Nightengale in the same column. But if anyone has the stack of chips to change their mind, it would be the Dodgers.
Clase is one of the league's premier closers and has led the American League in saves the past three seasons, including two seasons where he led all of Major League Baseball. Striking out one batter per inning this season, Clase has closed out 21 games for the Guardians and leads all relievers in appearances as of Monday.
The Dodgers are looking for depth in their bullpen after losing Evan Phillips to Tommy John surgery, along with Blake Treinen and Michael Kopech currently injured. The Dodgers are expected to be active in the bullpen market during the trade deadline to fill those holes.
While the Guardians aren't actively looking to move on from Clase, the Dodgers are staying in contact in case they can change their mind. Clase is under team control through 2028 and is one of the few high-end closers that could be on the market this season.
If the Dodgers are unable to make a deal with Cleveland, there are other options on the market, but many teams are unsure of their path leading up to the trade deadline.

Guardians outfield prospect Chase DeLauter has surgery on his right wrist
CLEVELAND (AP) — Outfielder Chase DeLauter, widely considered one of the top prospects in the Cleveland Guardians organization, had surgery Wednesday to repair a fractured hamate bone in his right wrist. DeLauter is expected to miss 6-8 weeks, which means he could be back for the last week or two of the season. He was examined on Tuesday by wrist/hand specialist Dr. Thomas Graham at Jefferson Orthopedics in Philadelphia. An MRI and clinical exam confirmed a hook of the hamate fracture and surgery was recommended. DeLauter has not played since July 12. He was batting .278 with eight doubles, five homers and 21 RBIs in 34 games at Triple-A Columbus. The 2022 first-round draft pick reached base in all 34 games he played for the Clippers, which led to some wondering when he might be called up. But DeLauter has struggled to stay on the field. He had three stints on the injured list last year and missed the first couple months of this season because of a sports hernia injury he suffered in spring training. ___

Expert picks & predictions for tonight's game between the Orioles and the Guardians Rotoworld Best Bet Vaughn Dalzell (@VmoneySports) likes the Guardians to reach 80 wins: 'In the first 24 games of the 67 one second-half of the schedule are the Athletics, Orioles, Royals, Rockies, Twins, Mets, White Sox, and Marlins -- beautiful! Cleveland took the series against the A's, 2-1 and beat the O's in the opener— so far so good. The Guardians have the easiest strength of schedule remaining in the MLB and need a 34-33 record over the second half to secure 80-plus wins, which I believe is more than possible.'
