Pep Guardiola dreams of leading a team in ‘World Cup, a Euro, a Copa America' but no plans to leave Manchester City yet
Pep Guardiola admitted that he has desires of leading international an side in big tournaments but his mind is currently set on enjoying his short holiday in Barcelona and then get on with the rebuilding process at Manchester City. Considered one of the greatest managers of all time Guardiola has won practically every possible trophy in club football but he is yet to take his talents to the international level.
'I would love to be in a World Cup, in a Euro, a Copa America,' Guardiola, who made earned nearly 50 caps for Spain during his playing career, told Reuters. 'I have always thought about it. But it depends on many, many things. If it happens, it's fine. If it doesn't happen, it's more than fine as well.'
Considered one of the greatest managers of all time, Guardiola's reign at City hit a sudden trough last year when the side went trophyless and just about managed to finish in the top-four. That it followed a glorious run in the years prior, in which they won the title four consecutive times and became the second English team to win the treble of the league, the FA Cup and the Champions League.
Guardiola said that his efforts to turn it around with City is largely motivated by hus need to prove himself that he can do it. 'It's to prove myself that I can do it, I don't want to have those feeling that last season left' he added.
'Because when we win, the wine tastes better afterwards, you sleep better. I don't know a manager who loses games and sleeps like a baby. It doesn't happen. You've got to worry. That's part of our life.'
The Spaniard added that it was unrealistic to expect him to win everything every year, and said that even the most successful athletes lose more than they win. 'I won 12 domestic leagues in 16 years. It's not bad, I would say. But you cannot win all the time. I cannot win the Champions League all the time,' he added. 'Michael Jordan, the best athlete I've ever seen in my life won six NBA Championships in 15 years. Tiger Woods, one incredible golf player, Jack Nicklaus, I don't know how many he has. But they lost more Grand Slams than they won. It happens.'

England beats West Indies by 21 runs in T20 series opener
CHESTER-LE-STREET, England (AP) — England continued its mastery of the West Indies by winning their Twenty20 series opener by 21 runs on Friday. After dominating the West Indies in three one-day internationals, England was expected to receive a tougher fight from the visitor, higher-rated in T20s than ODIs, and bolstered by World Cup champions Andre Russell, Jason Holder and Johnson Charles. But the West Indies didn't have world No. 2-ranked T20 bowler Akeal Hosein, who, along with batter Jyd Goolie, was unable to travel to England because of recent changes to U.K. visa entry requirements for Trinidad and Tobago citizens. Hosein was badly missed on a pitch that suited spin. The match-winner was left-arm spinner Liam Dawson, recalled by England after nearly three years out at the age of 35. He'd taken six wickets in 11 T20s from 2016-22, but produced a career-best 4-20 in four overs. Dawson took out Charles, Sherfane Rutherford, Roston Chase and Rovman Powell, four of the top six batters. He and fellow spinner Adil Rashid, 1-22, helped to choke a deep West Indies lineout to 167-9 in a chase of 189. Under England's brand new T20 captain Harry Brook, the old captain Jos Buttler set up a defendable total with 96 runs off 59 balls. Buttler worked the field so well he looked set to achieve his second T20 hundred in his 135th match. But he moved across while facing Alzarri Joseph and was beaten for pace and out lbw in the 19th over. He hit six boundaries and four sixes. 'I'm very pleased to get this series up and running with a win,' Brook said. 'It's unbelievable to have Dawson and Rashid working from both ends, operating the way they've done for so many years, and that wealth of experience. Jos Buttler is unbelievable. To have him in this T20 team batting in the top three, it's an honor.' England ended up at 188-6, pegged back by the West Indies after the host bolted out of the gates to 78-1 in the powerplay. West Indies spinner Gudakesh Motie did much to haul in England, his four overs conceding only 21 runs, 15 of them to Buttler. But Motie had only Chase as spin support, and Buttler devoured the pacers. 'A lot of teams like to throw spin at West Indies,' West Indies captain Shai Hope said. 'We need to get better as a batting unit. We've got so much depth. We're so powerful, so destructive. We've got to put this behind us and we've got two games to win the series.' The second of three T20s is on Sunday in Bristol.

BATH, England, June 6 (Reuters) - Bath scored four second half tries to rally from a seven-point deficit at the break to beat West Country rivals Bristol Bears 34-20 at a jubilant Recreation Ground on Friday and book a place in this season's Premiership Rugby final. A try from lock James Dun gave Bristol a deserved 13-6 lead at halftime in the semi-final, but when the visitors lost scrumhalf Harry Randall to a shoulder injury late in the opening period, the momentum swung the way of their hosts. Bath seized control with a blistering opening 20 minutes to the second half as they scored tries through loose-forward Ted Hill, wings Joe Cokanasiga and Will Muir, and centre Max Ojomoh, to take the game away from the visitors. Piyush Chawla, IPL star & part of two WC winning squad, retires from all cricket forms
1 2 Lucknow: Leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, who was part of India's two World Cup-winning campaigns, on Friday announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after a career spanning more than two decades. The Aligarh-born UP player was a member of India's T20 and ODI World Cup-winning squads in 2007 and 2011 under the captainship of MS Dhoni. He represented India in three Tests, 25 ODIs, and seven T20Is, taking 43 wickets across the three formats of the game. The 36-year-old Chawla is also the joint third-highest wicket-taker in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, having taken 192 wickets in as many matches in T-20 IPL tenure 2008-2024 while playing for four IPL teams, having won one title with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2014. Most recently, he played for Mumbai Indians in IPL-2024. This season, he remained unsold at the IPL auction. In domestic cricket, he has bagged 446 wickets and scored 5,486 runs in red ball cricket for UP and Gujarat. He played his last first class match for Uttar Pradesh against Kerala in Nov 2024. Announcing his retirement through an Instagram post, Chawla said, "After more than two decades on the field, the time has come to bid adieu to the beautiful game. Talking to TOI, an emotional Chawla said, "I felt it's the right time, so I officially announced my retirement from all forms of international and domestic cricket. I haven't decided about my future yet." Piyush is a well-known cricket commentator. After his retirement, he has plenty of options to serve cricket in many ways. With his experience, he can coach an IPL team or guide UPCA teams in different age groups and formats.
