Former Ohio State basketball signee commits to another Big Ten school
Recruiting at the highest levels of big-time college sports has never been wilder. With Name, image and likeness, the ability to transfer in the portal at will, revenue sharing, and everything else, it's never been harder and more unpredictable to sign kids to play for good 'ole State U. And it extends beyond the crazy world of the massive revenue sport of college football. It has also bled over into another revenue-generating sport, men's basketball, and occasionally beyond that as well. We may never know the full story behind OSU men's basketball commit Dorian Jones, but there was clearly a change in heart -- either from the Ohio State side, his, or both-- but when Jones decommitted because of academic issues. Many scratched their heads and wondered how things weren't foretold in the situation, but they also wondered where he would end up when all the dust settled. Well, we appear to have the answer to the latter question, because on Wednesday, Jones announced his commitment to Rutgers through Joe Tipton of Rivals via social media. It wasn't too much of a surprise because the Scarlet Knights were right in the thick of the race with Ohio State when Jones originally. We wish Jones nothing but the best when it comes to his future in the game. We just hope he doesn't have very much success against the Buckeyes when he plays against his former courting partner. LOOK: Jon Gruden unveils cleats Ohio State football will wear against Texas
It's almost here. We are almost in game week mode here at Buckeyes Wire because Ohio State is just a little over a week away from breaking the seal on the 2025 college football season when it opens up against No. 1 Texas next Saturday, Aug. 30. The environment figures to be electric, even if the game is at Noon, because Buckeye Nation seems to always show up for the biggest of games no matter when or where it's played when a blueblood and highly ranked team is involved on the opposite sideline. Everyone will be watching, and anyone with any kind of allegiances or rooting interests from either side (queue up a thousand camera angles of Matthew McConaughey) will be full of anticipation. When it comes to the game next Saturday, though it's not the most important thing, we got a little peek at what cleats Ohio State will be wearing when it runs out of the tunnel to kick the season off right, and the peek behind the curtain came via Barstool Sports' Jon Gruden. Gruden is an Ohio native and knows all about the history of Ohio State, so it's no surprise he was invited to the Buckeyes' equipment room to get a look at some of the cleats OSU will be trotting out this season. You too can have a look at the reveal of several cleats, but most importantly, the sizzling kicks the Buckeye players will slip on vs. Texas. When you play for Ohio State, you get all the goods like this. I don't know about you, but I'm fond of all of the cleats Gruden unveiled, but those that will be worn vs. Texas are indeed the best of the bunch. Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith continues to let his feelings about Michigan known
At this point, there's no ambiguity surrounding Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith's feelings about arch-rival Michigan. For the third time in a public forum, Smith used some very strong words to describe his disdain for "That School Up North." While appearing on "The Triple Option" podcast with Urban Meyer, Mark Ingram, and Rob Stone, Smith was asked to opine on his feelings toward Michigan and -- once again -- didn't hold back. It was a brief comment, but one that left no doubt. 'Hate,' Smith said. 'With everything in me, I hate them.' Tell us how you really feel JJ. We shouldn't be surprised because on two separate occasions, Smith has already made it very clear where he stands when it comes to him feeling a certain way about seeing those winged helmets. Earlier this summer, Smith let loose with Manny Navarro of "The Athletic" after asking about the loss to Michigan at the end of the regular season. 'I'm not a sore loser, but I hate losing, and losing to that team up north was pretty crazy,' Smith said. 'In the end, I think it really helped us play the way we did in the playoffs. But I didn't want to go to Ohio State and lose to that team up north. I just hate them. Just something about them. For the next two years, I promise you, I will not lose to them. I can't lose to them in the next two years.' Less than a month later, Smith doubled down at Big Ten media days when asked about the team that wears Maize and Blue. 'I feel like they feel the same way about us,' Smith said. 'They don't like us. We don't like them. So I mean, it's a rivalry, that's been going on for 100-plus years. It's going to continue to be that way, even when I'm done playing here at Ohio State.' With the NCAA investigation, the trading of barbs between both programs and fanbases, as well as Smith's comments, the game on Nov. 29.
