Thousands turn out for Glasgow Pride as Still Game star lends their support
Thousands of people brought colour to Glasgow's streets on Saturday afternoon, as Glasgow Pride 2025 got underway.
Today's celebration marked the 30th anniversary of Pride march in Scotland, as Glasgow was awash in rainbow colours while the vibrant parade travelled through the streets for the annual event.
Attendees weren't put off by the changing weather as lookers-on, with multi-coloured umbrellas, watched the dazzling parade and performances.
The largest Pride event in Scotland started at Kelvingrove Park before making its way into the city centre, with groups having been asked to gather from 10am.
It's estimated that 50,000 people marched for Glasgow's Pride - which represents everyone from the the LGBTQIA+ community - during last year's event.
The hosts of Glasgow Pride 2025 included 'The Showbiz Lion' Bev Lyons, Lee Cammy, Miss Bella Houston and Garry King.
On one float, eagle-eyed visitors spotted Still Game co-creator Greg Hemphill enjoying the celebrations as he was captured dancing while waving a rainbow Pride flag - a symbol of LGBTQ pride and LGBTQ social movements.
The video had the famous sound of fan favourite Isa Drennan saying, 'Jack and Victor are gay ', over the clip from the episode 'Hitch' of Season five of the show.
Social media users were thrilled by his involvement and made funny quips, including 'the people huv tae know' - a saying synonymous with Isa.
One lucky fan took a snap with the Still Game star, saying: "I met Greg Hemphill from still game which was a strange surprise!"
Acts such as Malta's Eurovision 2025 act Miriana Conte, dance music singer Kelly Llorenna, Norway's Eurovision 2022 act Subwoolfer and comedian Karen Dunbar entertained the crowd.
Alongside the parade, those attending the event made the most of all that was on offer, from the tasty food and drink to the many stalls.
Prior to the event, Trustee of Glasgow Pride SCIO, Stuart McPhail, said: 'It is the 30th anniversary of the Pride March in Scotland and we are thrilled to bring so many amazing artists to Glasgow to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community to fight for rights and celebrate the successes we have here.
"Glasgow's Pride remains FREE for everyone to attend with enjoyment and entertainment for all ages. We welcome everyone who is supportive of LGBTQIA+ rights for what is sure to be a fun day out.'
Road closures were in place across the city from noon for the huge procession, before a free to attend festival at the Barrowlands.
The route passed through busy streets including Sauchiehall Street and Ingram Street, before dispersing at Barrowlands Park.
The full Pride route included Kelvin Way, Sauchiehall Street, Blythswood Street, West George Street, George Square North, Montrose Street, Ingram Street, Trongate and Gallowgate.

Two beloved Denver spots — Cap City Tavern and Denver Sweet — served their last customers July 27. They closed within hours of each other amid mounting challenges in the Mile High City. The twin closures come as Denver grapples with a wave of restaurant failures. Last year, 82 percent of Colorado's restaurant shutdowns were in Denver, with Colorado Springs also seeing a decline. Cap City Tavern had been a family‑run institution for 18 years, remembered by loyal customers as a 'home away from home.' The McTaggart family also own the Bannock Street Garage Bar. Heartbroken customers remembered meeting partners there or celebrating special events. 'What an incredible loss. A home away from home full of years of memories. Sending so much love,' an Instagrammer wrote. 'Such a Denver staple. I'm just so sorry to hear this. Sending your family so much love right now. That floor is sure going to miss those jump splits!,' another fan responded. Unlike the tavern, Denver Sweet had only been operating for about six years. 'I loved going in and getting my pickle shots, playing pool with family, getting sloshed of AMFs during Pride. I made so many memories and had the best times of my life at Sweet,' an Instagrammer revealed. 'Y'all have shown me since the literal day I turned 21 that even though (ACTUALLY ESPECIALLY) since I'm a trans man, I am loved, accepted, and hold a rightful place in the gay male community,' another person wrote. Owners of the Cap City Tavern and Denver Sweet expressed their sadness over the closures on social media Cap City Tavern fans looked back on memories like meeting friends and supporting the Minnesota Vikings Social media users insisted the LGBTQ+ friendly Denver Sweet was a loving and accepting place The Denver hotspots join a nationwide trend that has seen long‑standing eateries shutter. Hector's Café and Diner closed earlier this month after 76 years of business. The owner of the struggling diner once frequented by Law & Order crew members revealed a major reason behind the closure was to make room for an expansion of the Whitney museum. The closure happened a month after Moro's Dining closed after 45 years. It's unclear how much money Moro's was making annually as the primary reason behind the shutter was the owner's interest in retiring. Operators of the Las Cuatro Milpas restaurant in California are also looking to retire, which is why they've decided close their 92-year-old restaurant for good. However, unlike the others, Cole's French Dip is closing after 117 years of operation due to a business decline resulting from crime in Los Angeles.

Liam and Noel Gallagher's forgotten older brother, Paul, had remained outwith the spotlight for many years before he was charged with rape and violent sex offences this week following a police investigation from last year. Paul Gallagher, 59, who is the older brother of the Oasis stars, is facing a number of serious allegations including rape, sexual assault, coercive control and making threats to kill. The alleged crimes are said to have taken place between 2022 and 2024 and involve one female victim. Gallagher is set to appear before magistrates next month. The Met Police confirmed: "A man has been charged with numerous offences - including rape, coercive control and sexual assault. "Paul Gallagher, 59, of Manor Park Road, East Finchley, has been charged with rape, coercive and controlling behaviour, three counts of sexual assault, three counts of intentional strangulation, two counts of making a threat to kill and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. "The offences are reported to have taken place between 2022 – 2024. The charges follow an investigation which commenced in 2024. A woman is being supported by specially-trained officers. Gallagher will appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 27 August." The charges come in the midst of his younger brothers' return to the spotlight on their Oasis Live 25 reunion tour. The rock icons' next stop after their three remaining shows at London's Wembley Stadium this week and next is Scotland, where they will play three nights at Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium on August 8, 9 and 12. The pair had been due to tie the knot in 2023 but it got pushed back due to Liam's hip surgery. Throughout Liam and Noel's 15-year feud, which they finally put to bed last year after announcing an Oasis reunion, Paul remained in regular contact with both of them. However, he said he would meet up with Liam 'every other day'. Despite this tight knot bond, Paul has never had any involvement in Oasis. New Pride & Prejudice series has Netflix fans threatening to BOYCOTT: 'You cannot be serious'
Netflix has sparked uproar after releasing a first look at the casting for the new Pride & Prejudice series - with some fans now threatening to boycott the steamer altogether. The six-part series follows the classic love story of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy straight from Jane Austen's 1813 novel Pride and Prejudice. Both the 1995 BBC series and the 2005 film adaptation are beloved by literature readers and film buffs alike. But this latest recreation appears to already be upsetting fans. Earlier today, Netflix took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a cast picture of the Bennet family women on set. 'We know you've been yearning for a sneak peek. Pride & Prejudice is officially in production,' the post read. 'Here's a first look featuring Emma Corrin, Freya Mavor, Olivia Colman, Hopey Parish, Rhea Norwood, and Hollie Avery as the Bennet women.' Emma Corrin is set to star as the witty Elizabeth Bennet, while Jack Lowden takes on the brooding role of Mr. Darcy, and Olivia Colman plays the nervous Mrs. Bennet. But fans immediately rushed to the comments to express their distaste at the prospect as one wrote: 'Not to self: unsubscribe from Netflix immediately, today,' someone wrote. 'This casting is awful what the f**k,' another added. 'You cannot be serious,' someone else said. 'Oh help… praying this isn't a cock up like Persuasion. 'Actually scratch that… this is a reminder to me to unsubscribe,' another shared. Other members of the cast include Rufus Sewell as Mr. Bennet, Freya Mavor as Jane Bennet, Jamie Demetriou as Mr. Collins, Daryl McCormack as Mr. Bingley, and Louis Partridge as Mr. Wickham, per Variety. More actors include Rhea Norwood as Lydia Bennet, Siena Kelly as Caroline Bingley, and Fiona Shaw as Lady Catherine de Bourg. Hopey Parish and Hollie Avery are making their acting debuts as Mary Bennet and Kitty Bennet respectively. The director and screenwriter of Heartstopper, Euros Lyn and Dolly Alderton, respectively, are taking on the series. 'Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story, and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it,' Alderton said in a statement, per the outlet. 'Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life.'
