Jogger hit by suspected drunk driver dies in ICU

TAWAU: A woman who was critically injured after being struck while jogging died after a week in Tawau Hospital's intensive care unit.
The victim, 41-year-old Darna Tajudin, was pronounced dead at 8.37am today after being declared brain dead.
The accident occurred at 7.55pm on Aug 10 at Batu 9, Jalan Apas, when the victim and several friends were jogging from Bandar Sri Indah towards T2 Jalan Apas.
On the same day, Tawau district police chief Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin said initial investigations revealed the accident happened when a 57-year-old Toyota Hilux driver rear-ended a Perodua Alza driven by a 39-year-old man.
"As a result of the collision, the Toyota Hilux driver lost control of his vehicle, which veered onto the left roadside and rammed into the victim."
The case is now being investigated under Section 44(1)(b) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which addresses the offense of causing death or injury while driving under the influence of alcohol.
Darna's younger sibling, Yusmi Tajudin, 39, said she left behind five children aged between 9 and 18.
"We have yet to confirm when the burial will take place, as we are still awaiting the next procedures since the case is under police investigation."

The suspects, aged between 17 and 28, were detained at 3.55am during Ops Samseng Jalanan, a traffic enforcement operation involving 14 officers from the district police headquarters. They were allegedly riding in groups, weaving through traffic and racing from Jalan Pintasan Haji Kosai to Jalan Pintasan Temenggung Ahmad. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhlis Azman Aziz said the men were remanded after being brought before the magistrate's court earlier today.
