New Harry Potter star Nick Frost has revealed the "only people" whose approval he sought before taking on an iconic role in the TV series - but notably failed to mention controversial author J.K. Rowling.
Frost will play beloved Hogwarts groundskeeper Hagrid in the upcoming HBO adaptation of Rowling's seven-volume fantasy series into a long-form TV show, which is set to start filming in the UK in less than a month.
The actor and comedian said he was a huge fan of the late Robbie Coltrane, who originally played Hagrid in the films from 2001 to 2011.
Frost said he never knew the legendary actor, but his best mate Danny did.
And he was elated when Coltrane's children called Danny with their resounding approval of him taking over their father's most famous role.
'I loved the fact he was massive and angry, and that's how he began, as a kind of people's poet in a way,' Frost said over Zoom in London, according to NewsCorp's entertainment journalist James Wigney on Friday.
'And I love that working-class element he brought to everything he did. I had never met him, but my best friend Danny knows his family very well.
'And apparently, his kids phoned my mate Danny to say, 'We are so happy that Nick got the role of Hagrid and that Dad was a really big fan of his'.
Frost said Coltrane's family were the "only people" he felt he had to "really impress" in the Harry Potter world, and that "job is done" now.
The actor will join a star-studded ensemble, including John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, and Paapa Essiedu as Snape in the awaited series revamp.
Dominic McLaughlin has been cast for the titular role of Harry Potter, with Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermoine Granger.
Frost's failure to mention Rowling is notable after some of the new stars, including Lithgow and Essiedu, recently expressed opposition to the author's views.
However, he previously disagreed with the 59-year-old's opinions in an interview with The Observer.
'She's allowed her opinion and I'm allowed mine, they just don't align in any way, shape or form,' the Hot Fuzz actor told the publication recently.
Asked if he fears the conversation about Rowling could overshadow the new show, Frost said he hoped it would serve as an educational tool.
'I don't know,' he said.
'But maybe it shouldn't blow over? We shouldn't just hope it will go away, because it makes it easier. Maybe we should educate ourselves.'
Last November, HBO chief Casey Bloys said Rowling's views have not "affected the casting or hiring of writers or productions staff'.
A spokesperson for the network added the author "has a right to express her personal views" and the new series will "only benefit from her involvement."
Rowling recently celebrated the ruling that only biological women meet the definition of a woman under equality laws in a landmark case.
She has previously mocked the phrase "people who menstruate", said women's rights and "lived reality" would be "erased" if "sex isn't real", and called a list of trans women "men, every last one of them".

Arnold Schwarzenegger shares his one condition for making a movie with son-in-law Chris Pratt

Arnold Schwarzenegger would only star in a movie with his family members if there was a "great script" on offer. The 77-year-old Hollywood legend is father-in-law to Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt - who is married to his daughter Katherine Schwarzenegger - and his son Patrick, 31, has started up his own acting career with his role in The White Lotus, but insisted that the three of them would never appear together on screen in a film for no reason. He told E! News: "I think that it's one of those things that if there is a great script, then of course we would do it. But you cannot just make up this stuff, you cannot just say 'Okay, let's just put the three together in a movie...' and not have a great script." The Terminator star was then asked if he and his family members had ever discussed the prospect of making a film together, and confirmed that they had not. He added: "No, but that's a given." Meanwhue, Arnold - who is also father to Christina, 33, and Christopher, 27, with his ex-wife Maria Shriver as well as 27-year-old Joseph with Mildred Patricia Baena - insisted that he is "very proud" of all of his children, but did recall that his eldest son did seem to show a flair for the arts before he made it as an actor himself. He said: "I'm very proud of all my children. Patrick always had a love of show business, I think that he spent a lot of time on the set with me watching me I think he got his style right there and then." Patrick stars as Saxon Ratliff on the hit HBO antholoogy series, and when asked if Arnold would ever join his son on the show, hinted that it is something he would possibly be "interested" in. He added: "Whenever I see something good, I am interested in it, so will see."

Michelle Monaghan 'craved' return to The White Lotus hairstyle

Michelle Monaghan has been "craving" a return to her White Lotus hairstyle. The 49-year-old actress - who played TV actress Jaclyn Lemon in the third season of HBO's anthology series - loving going blonde for the show and matching her co-stars Carrie Coon (Laurie Duffy) and Leslie Bibb (Kate Bohr), although she had to go back to brunette after filming due to other commitments. However, she told PEOPLE magazine: "I'm craving that change again and that transformation. I just wanted to be lighter and brighter for this summer. "I'm really excited to shed the brunette once again and get to play around with being blonde." Michelle doesn't necessarily want to match Jacyln's look, and she's keen to find a balance between that and her usual style. She added: "I don't think we'll be as blonde as Jaclyn, but I think we'll be somewhere in between." She'll be getting some help from Goldwell colourist Kirby Lago, who thinks a "buttery, warm" vibe is best. Kirby told the outlet: "I'm creating a really soft hazel base and then really popping it with some buttery warm blonde tones. It'll be really nice on her skin tone." She explained that she's using a range of Goldwell products to help, including the "really luxurious" SilkLift range, and both the Bond Pro and Bond Pro II. She added: "That's the thing with blondes now, hair needs to look glossy and healthy. Gone are the days of really over-processed blondes that are a matte porous texture. "It's really important that the hairstylists are taking the steps to nourish and look after the hair as it's lifting. "Now all of a sudden it's, 'Wow, I can go this blonde and it can feel soft and touchable and shiny and I don't need to put [extensions] in. That's a win-win for everybody." Meanwhile, Michelle was surprise by the way the trio's blonde looks caught on with The White Lotus fans. She said: "[Show creator] Mike [White] was like, 'I really want all of you to be a big blonde blob.' "Which is why he wanted me to go blonde. We had no idea that the blonde, [Leslie's] bob, all of the things would take hold in the way that they did."
