KUWAIT: The International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO) has successfully concluded the 'Abdullah Ali Al-Mutawa' vocational and development training project, aimed at empowering Syrian refugee women in Turkey by equipping them with essential skills in sewing, embroidery and cooking. In a press statement issued on Thursday, the organization affirmed its continued commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and promoting women's empowerment in crisis-affected areas. The initiative, which spanned six months and was implemented at a total cost of over $37,000, benefited 101 Syrian refugee women, positively impacting nearly 400 family members.

As part of the program's outcomes, IICO provided professional tools and equipment to ten participants, enabling them to launch small-scale projects from their homes. This practical support helped translate the training into tangible income-generating opportunities, placing the women on a sustainable path toward financial independence and social integration. The organization emphasized that the project responds to the pressing economic and social challenges faced by Syrian women, particularly widows, in the absence of a primary breadwinner. The announcement comes as preparations intensify for the start of the annual pilgrimage. In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Dr Al-Mutairi said that mission teams from various participating entities are operating at full capacity and are providing services around the clock at the holy sites to ensure the comfort and safety of Kuwaiti pilgrims. He added that preparations at the key pilgrimage sites of Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah have been completed in advance, underscoring the mission's goal of facilitating a safe and organized environment for pilgrims to carry out their religious duties. Dr Al-Mutairi urged all Kuwaiti pilgrims to adhere to official guidelines issued by the Saudi authorities and to cooperate with the supervisory and service teams accompanying the Kuwaiti hajj mission. The mission includes several government and NGOs tasked with supporting pilgrims. These include the Ministries of Islamic Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Interior, Information, and Health, along with the General Fire Force, the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, the Public Authority for Youth, and the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS). In a related development, KRCS Secretary-General Fahad Al-Mandeel confirmed the organization's participation in this year's hajj mission. KRCS volunteers will provide humanitarian aid, first aid services, and logistical support to pilgrims. Al-Mandeel told KUNA that both male and female volunteers from the society will take part in the mission as part of KRCS's ongoing humanitarian role in serving pilgrims. He highlighted the society's continued collaboration with the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and other official bodies. He also commended the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its extensive efforts in organizing the hajj season, noting the early preparations, high-quality services, and coordination with international hajj missions, including Kuwait's. According to Al-Mandeel, the KRCS delegation will deliver field medical services in coordination with Kuwaiti medical teams, assist elderly and ill pilgrims, and distribute necessary medical and informational materials. Strong winds and dust storms continue across Kuwait
KUWAIT CITY, June 4: Acting Director of the Meteorology Department, Dharar Al-Ali, confirmed Wednesday that Kuwait will continue to experience strong northwesterly winds, with speeds sometimes exceeding 50 kilometers per hour. These winds are expected to raise dust and reduce horizontal visibility, particularly in exposed areas. In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Ali said weather charts and numerical models show that the country has been under the influence of strong winds since the morning. These winds are not only causing dust storms but also raising sea waves to heights of over six feet. He attributed the ongoing weather conditions to an extension of a surface low-pressure system accompanied by a hot and dry air mass. A relative decrease in wind speeds is expected by Thursday afternoon, he added. Al-Ali noted that the general weather will remain hot during the day and warm to hot at night, with dust expected to gradually settle overnight. Daytime temperatures are forecast to range between 40 and 43 degrees Celsius, while nighttime lows are expected to range from 27 to 30 degrees Celsius. He urged citizens and residents, especially those with asthma or allergies, to wear protective masks. He also advised beachgoers to take precautions due to high waves, and motorists to remain cautious of sudden drops in visibility and potential sand accumulation on highways.

Eid market oversight intensifies
KUWAIT CITY, June 3: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry affirmed the availability of a sufficient number of sacrificial animals of various types, sizes, and prices in the markets to meet the demands of citizens and residents during Eid al-Adha. Director of the Department of Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Faisal Al-Ansari said the department's emergency teams conducted intensive market campaigns to monitor prices and ensure the availability of adequate quantities of sacrificial animals. He explained that field monitoring revealed the availability of adequate quantities of imported sacrificial animals. The price of a 40-kilogram Juffali sheep ranges between KD 95 and KD 120, a 50-kilogram Syrian sheep between KD 125 and KD 140, a 30-kilogram Somali sheep between KD 45 and KD 55, and a 45-kilogram Jordanian sheep between KD 100 and KD 115. Such inspection campaigns would continue in all markets before, during, and after Eid al-Adha, in cooperation with imported sheep traders, to ensure sufficient meat quantities are available at affordable prices. Al-Ansari indicated that a comprehensive plan has been developed to survey central and subsidiary markets, including meat, sweets, fruits, dates, and other shops, to ensure vendors comply with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry's regulations and requirements. He commended the efforts of the Coast Guard and the Customs in facilitating the release of shipments arriving from neighboring countries by sea.
