IICO launches food aid project for 240,000 displaced Gazans
GAZA: International Islamic Charitable Organization workers distribute food to Palestinians in Gaza. — KUNA KUWAIT: The International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO) has launched its 'Takeyat It'aam Al-Ta'am' (Charitable Food Kitchen) project, aiming to reach 240,000 beneficiaries over the course of one month by distributing balanced meals in shelter centers. The initiative comes in response to the dire humanitarian conditions facing displaced people and refugees in Gaza due to the ongoing siege and conflict. In a press statement issued Thursday, the organization said the project, which began on May 6 and will continue through June 5, aims to provide food security to the most vulnerable groups and alleviate their daily suffering under the current circumstances. The organization emphasized its particular focus on relief projects with direct impact, which help improve the lives of affected families and support their resilience. The statement added that the initiative was launched in response to severe shortages in food supplies, a worsening humanitarian crisis, and rising malnutrition rates, particularly among children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers. It noted that most residents in camps and shelters rely almost entirely on humanitarian aid to meet their basic needs. The organization explained that the project serves several key objectives, most notably: providing nutritious meals to those in shelters, ensuring they receive minimum daily dietary requirements, improving overall health, reducing nutrition-related illnesses, and offering psychological and emotional support amid the intense pressures and hardships they face. It further noted that 'Takeyat It'aam Al-Ta'am' meals are prepared and distributed within the shelters in an organized and hygienic manner that preserves the dignity of recipients — especially vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the elderly, who are prioritized in distribution. This comes amid the rapid collapse of food supply chains within Gaza. — KUNA

IICO launches housing a project for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh
Rohingya family members benefit from the humanitarian project.- KUNA photos KUWAIT: The International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO) announced on Monday the successful implementation of the first phase of a housing project for Rohingya refugees in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. The initiative, which aims to improve living conditions for vulnerable communities, includes the construction of 175 solar-powered housing units designed to accommodate approximately 1,050 individuals. In a press statement, IICO revealed that the project's first phase was fully funded at a cost exceeding KD 31,943 (around $104,000). The housing units are part of the organization's broader humanitarian efforts to provide safe shelter, protect families from harsh weather, and ensure greater privacy and security in overcrowded refugee camps. The statement noted that the housing structures were built using practical and sustainable materials, such as bamboo and cement, with weather-resistant roofing made from plastic and straw — materials well-suited to the area's climate conditions year-round. Each unit spans roughly 16 square meters and is equipped with solar-powered lighting systems, replacing hazardous kerosene lamps that have been linked to frequent and destructive fires in the camps. IICO reaffirmed its commitment to humanitarian relief and development, emphasizing its ongoing strategic partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which dates back to the signing of a memorandum of understanding in 2000. The organization reiterated its resolve to expand its efforts in supporting displaced and vulnerable populations through sustainable development solutions that align with its core mission to empower communities worldwide. - KUNA

IICO launches water project for displaced families in Gaza
KUWAIT: The International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO) has launched a vital water supply initiative to support 50,000 displaced and affected families in Gaza, providing them with potable water amid worsening humanitarian conditions. The project, valued at over $68,000, is aimed at easing the daily struggles of families residing in shelters and residential neighborhoods across the Strip. In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the IICO said the initiative involves the daily distribution of desalinated water via large tankers. These tankers transport clean water from desalination plants to more than 200 camps and residential areas, with quantities tailored to the specific needs of each location. 'This project addresses one of the most urgent humanitarian needs as Gaza continues to face severe water shortages and a collapsing water infrastructure,' the statement said. 'Displaced individuals, many of whom are crammed into overcrowded shelters, are forced to wait in long lines for limited amounts of water, which often fall short of meeting their daily requirements.' Representatives of the Charitable Organization and the participating parties in training 100 male and female teachers of the Holy Quran.- KUNA photos KUWAIT: The International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO) announced the successful conclusion of the 'Message Teacher' project, which was carried out over a four-month period in Yemen's Taiz Governorate at a cost of approximately $45,000 (around KD 13,000). In a press statement issued on Monday, the organization said the initiative benefited 100 teachers working in Quranic education, aiming to empower them as influential role models capable of nurturing a conscious and active generation rooted in Quranic values. Implemented in collaboration with the Jannat Development Foundation, the project sought to enhance the quality of Quranic education by addressing limitations in traditional teaching methods that emphasize memorization without reinforcing the Quran's objectives in thought and behavior. Teachers participating in the project were honored. According to the statement, the initiative contributed to raising both cognitive and professional competencies among teachers. It also included the development of specialized training content, educational programs focused on Quranic reflection, and frameworks for constructing meaningful learning outcomes. As part of the project, eight integrated training packages were prepared, alongside eight qualification workshops. Additionally, 10 applied programs were financed and implemented directly by participating trainees within their Quranic learning circles, presenting a model that reinstates the teacher's pivotal missionary role in education. — KUNA
