SiriusXM Launches 24/7 Pro Wrestling Channel on July 1
Pro wrestling has gone from a once-a-week show on SiriusXM to having its own channel. The satellite radio provider announced Thursday that Pro Wrestling Nation 24/7 will take over Channel 156 beginning Tuesday.
Channel 156 has been SiriusXM Fight Nation, which has carried pro wrestling, MMA, and boxing shows. 'I couldn't be more excited,' said Dave LaGreca, the longtime host of Busted Open, which started as a one-hour weekly show in 2009. 'I really owe it to our fans. They've really been dedicated and asked for this for years. It's a dream come true to actually see it form. And now it's about to happen.'
Busted Open expanded to five days a week in 2018 before going to six days one year later. It will have a live episode seven days a week from 9 a.m.–noon EDT on the new channel featuring LaGreca with wrestling stars Bully Ray, Mark Henry, and Tommy Dreamer. The show has appealed to fans of both WWE and AEW, with video clips of interviews getting plenty of engagement on social media. The channel's daily lineup will also feature programs from Sam Roberts, Peter Rosenberg, Jonathan Coachman, Natalya, and Matt Cardona. Five nights a week there will be a Busted Open After Dark program where fans can call in and react after WWE and AEW shows.
'The great thing is we're not associated with WWE or AEW, so we can give our honest opinion about both products,' said LaGreca, who signed a multi-year extension with SiriusXM. 'The fact that there is a little bit of tension between those two companies and even the fans, it makes it even better for what we're doing on air. The fact that there are more companies that are succeeding at record-breaking levels is even better for our brand and the big reason why we're going 24/7.'
Pro wrestling also can claim–at least on satellite radio–for being on a level playing field with professional sports leagues and major college conferences in having a dedicated channel. 'The appetite for wrestling content continues to increase, and we're able to uniquely meet the demand of those fans by delivering a new 24/7 channel just for them,' said Jared Fox, SiriusXM's Senior Vice President for Sports Programming, Content Marketing & Partnerships, and Artist Relations. 'We have a long track record of building dedicated sports channels that fans love.'
LaGreca said he is hoping to add more analysts as well as continue to seek input from fans on possible additions or lineup changes.

The NHL and NHL Players' Association are close to an agreement on an extension of the collective bargaining agreement, two people familiar with negotiations told The Associated Press on Thursday. The people spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the deal had not yet been finalized. The league and union have been in talks since April and are on the verge of a memorandum of understanding done more than a year before the current CBA expires. The extension would provide extended labor peace in the sport that has had multiple work stoppages – including the 2004–05 lockout that wiped out an entire season – over the past three decades. Going to an 84-game regular season, up from 82, and reducing exhibition games to four per team is believed to be among the changes that could be announced as soon as Friday in Los Angeles before the first round of the draft. A playoff salary cap and shorter maximum contract lengths have also been among the reported topics. Daily Faceoff was first to report a pending announcement of a new CBA. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and NHLPA executive director Marty Walsh foreshadowed a quick conclusion to this process, speaking at the Stanley Cup Final earlier this month. Bettman said the sides were 'in really good shape, having really good discussions,' and Walsh added that 'talks were moving forward and I feel good with where we are.' A full new CBA would be the first since 2013. The league and the union have been working on the memorandum negotiated in 2020 to finish that season during the pandemic and would meld that agreement with the framework from 12 years ago.

Ex-Red Sox Pitcher Mike Timlin to Ride in the Pan-Mass Challenge in Memory of Teammate Tim Wakefield
Knuckleballer Tim Wakefield didn't get the chance to ride in the Pan-Mass Challenge, so former teammate Mike Timlin will do it for him. Timlin, who won two World Series titles alongside Wakefield, said he and his wife will ride in the cross-state fundraiser this summer in memory of their friend and teammate, who died in 2023 of brain cancer. The Pan-Mass Challenge is the largest single-event athletic fundraiser in the country, raising more than $1 billion for cancer treatment and research since 1980, with many of the riders dedicating their effort to friends and family who have died of the disease. 'PMC is good therapy,' event founder Billy Starr said in a video call with The Associated Press. 'It's one of our great sales tools.' Conceived in 1980 by Starr after his mother died of cancer, the PMC is a one- and two-day bike ride of up to 186 miles that has grown to include 46 different routes across the state, with many riders ending in Provincetown on the tip of Cape Cod. This August, nearly 7,000 riders will mount up with the goal of raising $76 million for the Dana–Farber Cancer Institute, one of the nation's leading cancer treatment and research hospitals. Timlin and Wakefield shared a clubhouse when the Red Sox collapsed in the 2003 AL Championship Series against the Yankees, then came back the following season to win it all, ending the franchise's 86-year championship drought. Both pitched into their 40s, with Wakefield riding his old-timey knuckleball into the Red Sox record books as the third-winningest pitcher in team history, trailing Cy Young and Roger Clemens. Only Carl Yastrzemski, Dwight Evans, and Ted Williams played more seasons for the Red Sox. More importantly, Wakefield was a charitable workhorse, winning baseball's Roberto Clemente Award for sportsmanship and community involvement in 2010 and serving as the Red Sox nominee seven other times. He was the team's first Jimmy Fund captain, visiting with patients and raising funds for the childhood cancer charity, and the honorary chairman of the Red Sox Foundation. Wakefield worked on the team's broadcasts after retiring in 2012, and it was in the booth during PMC Day at Fenway Park in 2023 when he approached Starr. The ballplayer had not yet gone public with his diagnosis. 'He said, 'I'm riding next year.' I said, 'Well, we'll still be here and you will be welcome, of course,'' Starr said. 'And then: Whoa. (He went) so quickly downhill.' Less than three months later, Wakefield died. Later that offseason, his wife, Stacy, also died of cancer. 'We've all seen it. We've all been touched by it … it's awful. And knowing that one of my buddies had had to go through that and his wife had to go through it … it kind of drives me to do this,' Timlin said this week. 'You don't want to see someone else's family go through the tragedy. And if you can prevent that, even in a small way, then do so.' Wakefield's death was mourned across baseball and beyond. 'Wake has always been inspirational and doing stuff around the community,' Timlin said. 'He was very high on kids' charities and leading by example. We try to just emulate what he could do.' Now empty-nesters living in Colorado, Timlin and his wife, Dawn, have participated in 60-mile trail rides and other off-road events to take advantage of the outdoors. Dawn Timlin rode in the PMC four times when Mike spent the last six seasons of an 18-year major league career in Boston. 'She told me my butt's going to be really sore,' Mike Timlin said. ''You get back on your bike the second day, you're probably not going to want to see that bike ever again.' But she said the best part about it is you meet so many new people and … it is kind of amazing how you form a camaraderie with people you don't even know,' he said. 'That's the whole part about it. Just doing something as a community and getting to know new people.' And that was enough to get Timlin, who thought he might have been done with Boston drivers when his career with the Red Sox was over, back on the road. 'I mean, there are some tight roads that you have to ride on. So yes, it's quite the challenge,' he said. 'You've got to be real careful all the time.'

New Film Academy Members Include Danielle Deadwyler, Ariana Grande, Jason Momoa, Conan O'Brien
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences invited 534 new members to its organization on Thursday, adding recent Oscar nominees and many more to Hollywood's most exclusive club. The newest class of Oscar voters includes a number of stars like Dave Bautista, Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza, Danielle Deadwyler, and Andrew Scott. They, along with filmmakers, below-the-line professionals, and executives, will bring the film academy's membership total to 11,120, with voting members numbering 10,143. That's the largest membership ever for the academy. Since the #OscarsSoWhite backlash, the film academy has added thousands of members to swell its ranks and diversify its voting body. This year's class is 41 percent female, 45 percent from underrepresented communities, and 55 percent from outside the US. Those new members will make the entire academy 35 percent women, 22 percent from underrepresented communities, and 21 percent international. 'We are thrilled to invite this esteemed class of artists, technologists, and professionals to join the Academy,' said academy chief executive Bill Kramer and president Janet Yang in a statement. 'Through their commitment to filmmaking and to the greater movie industry, these exceptionally talented individuals have made indelible contributions to our global filmmaking community.' Invitations went out to 91 Oscar nominees and 26 winners, including best actress winner Mikey Madison ('Anora') and best supporting actor winner Kieran Culkin ('A Real Pain'). Recent nominees who were invited include Ariana Grande, Jeremy Strong, Sebastian Stan, and Monica Barbara. Gints Zilbalodis, the director of best animated film winner 'Flow,' will join the animation branch. Other filmmakers set to join the academy include Mike Flanagan ('Doctor Sleep'), Azazel Jacobs ('His Three Daughters'), Brady Corbet ('The Brutalist'), Coraline Fargeat ('The Substance'), Jane Schoenbrun ('I Saw the TV Glow'), Halina Reijn ('Babygirl'), and Gia Coppola ('The Last Showgirl'). Payal Kapadia ('All We Imagine As Light'), Lena Waithe ('Queen & Slim'), and Greg Kwedar and Clint Bentley of 'Sing Sing' were all invited in the writers' branch. In the music branch, new members include Brandi Carlile ('Elton John: Never Too Late'), Branford Marsalis ('Rustin'), and Youssou NDour ('Youssou NDour: I Bring What I Love'). The last two emcees to host the Oscars – Jimmy Kimmel and Conan O'Brien – were also invited as members. After a well-reviewed broadcast that drew 19.7 million viewers, O'Brien is returning to host the 2026 Academy Awards on March 15. A few new rules will await the 2025 academy members. For the first time, members will be required to watch all nominated films in each category to be eligible to vote in the final road of Oscar voting. This year, a new award category for casting will be voted on for the upcoming Oscars. The academy has also established a new Oscar for stunt design, but that won't be given out until 2028.
