People Are Praising Lil Yachty For "Protecting His Daughter" From The Spotlight After Hearing His Strong Stance On Kids In Hollywood

Buzz Feed30-01-2025

Rapper Lil Yachty opened up about raising a child out of the public eye and why he doesn't feel pressure to post his daughter online.
In October 2021, Lil Yachty — whose real name is Miles Parks McCollum — welcomed a daughter named Varsity with designer Selangie Henriquez. Whenever he's asked about his 3-year-old in interviews, he can't help but gush.
But because he doesn't post her on social media, a lot of people have created their own narrative about his relationship with his child. Well, on the latest episode of Club Shay Shay with Shannon Sharpe, the rapper decided to set the record straight on why he doesn't feel the need to post her.
"People think I'm a deadbeat because I don't post her," Yachty said. "Fuck you [laughs]. I don't need the validation. This is something me and the mother of my child go back and forth, and butt heads on, but I don't care."
"I don't need anyone to like the picture and tell me, 'So cute, she looks just like you. Twin.' I don't need that. I see her. I can look at her and see that we look alike. I don't need you to tell me. I don't need you to tell me her outfit's nice."
Although he respects the parents who decide to put their children on social media, he went on to stress his lack of desire because he knows his child didn't ask to be in the spotlight or ask for extra attention from strangers.
"I'm not going to make her a celebrity. She didn't ask for it. I know the power I have. I know if I did it, I know what she'd be. She didn't ask for every time she goes for ice cream, someone's asking for a picture, recording her, or filming her."
"I like the fact that she can go out with my sister or my grandma, and they're not noticed. If I put her on the internet and make her a star, people are going to stop her and always want pictures. She's a kid."
The "All Around the World" rapper added that he'd only make an exception if it's something his daughter wanted to do, but he's leaving the decision in her hands.
He noted that if she wanted to make a TikTok together or something along those lines, he would do it happily, but he ultimately wants the choice to be hers.

10 Father's Day Gifts For Black Dads That Won't Break the Bank

Source: FG Trade / Getty Look, I'm not going to be that guy who comes around every June and reminds y'all how Father's Day is the unmitigated afterthought of parental observance holidays. I'm not here to count cards, compare brunch budgets, or shame your decision to spend half a mortgage payment on your momma's bouquet while Dad got a mug that says 'Grill Sergeant.' Nah. We get it. Y'all love your mommas. You love seeing them in their fancy hats at church. You love how they hold you down, gas you up, and remind you that you're worthy of good things. And you should! But when it comes to your fathers, especially your Black fathers, y'all consistently fail to meet the moment. So this year, let's flip the script. Forget the neckties nobody asked for and the Outback Steakhouse reservations we never requested. Here's a list of ten gifts that won't max out your debit card but will actually mean something to that Black dad in your life. Whether he's your biological pops, your bonus dad, or the community uncle who rolled with your old man an'nem back in '83, these are the kinds of gifts that speak to the heart of Black fatherhood in 2025. Black fatherhood is a constant state of preemptive planning. From knowing which gas stations we don't go to to how to avoid that one stretch of I-290 where they got that four-lane merge, we stay game planning. So imagine the relief when, just once, you come to us with a solved problem. 'I already talked to financial aid.' 'I figured out the plumbing issue.' 'I found a good internship.' THAT is a gift. That is peace. That is knowing that the years of preparing you for this moment weren't wasted. We don't always need to be heroes. Sometimes, we just need to know that you've got this. We're not saying dads don't enjoy a good time. But if Father's Day means being the unsuspecting star of your TikTok prank, or the punchline to your latest group chat roast, go ahead and miss us with that. This year, give us the gift of being cool again. Compliment the fit. Say our playlist actually goes. Ask us about our high school stats and act like they still matter. We know the hairline's on a journey, but damn, let us be who we still see in the mirror in peace. That thing? That we placed exactly there? With duct tape and prayer? That was done on purpose . Dads don't improvise, dads engineer . Whether it's a makeshift dryer vent, an iPad holder made from a coat hanger, or keeping you from that shady cousin who's always 'starting a business,' trust that our actions were protective, not just practical. So this year, honor the rigged solutions and the boundaries we set. That was love in action. Don't fix it. Don't move it. Just say, 'Thanks, Pops.' We know you're grown (enough). We know you're busy. But the world isn't going anywhere, and neither are we (well, not yet). Give us the gift of being present. Watch the game without checking your phone. Take the scenic route with us and don't rush to the next thing. Let's cook, sit, talk nonsense, and watch clouds roll by like we used to. Our favorite version of you is the one that remembers how to just be . You know we were right. About the relationship. About the job. About that used Saab 9-3 that was definitely lemon-adjacent. Give us the gift of admission. Not because we need to be right, but because it lets us know you were listening . Say, 'You know what, Dad? You were onto something.' Watch us light up like it's our birthday. We said what we said. Tell her she can text us if she wants to. 👋🏾 Listen, we know you're grown. But give us the gift of peace of mind. Stop rolling with that one friend who 'don't believe in car insurance.' Stop taking sketchy gigs from Craigslist. Stop posting cryptic tweets that sound like you're three minutes away from a situationship relapse. Let us breathe easy knowing you're choosing safety, peace, and long-term joy over fast chaos. Just for today. Please. We love you . Not your whole kickback crew. This year, we don't want the cookout to turn into a networking event for your friend's candle startup. We don't want to meet your situationship unless it's serious-serious. Give us some one-on-one time. It doesn't mean we don't love your people. It just means that on this day, we want you . This isn't a request for a gift. We really just wanna know in case we're close to there later. Might stop by. You never know. Let us know it mattered. That all the rides, all the sacrifices, all the times we stayed silent so you could find your voice, meant something. Give us the gift of acknowledgment. Tell us we mattered. Because while the world often treats Black men like we're disposable or dangerous, you've seen us be human. Be tender. Be tired. Be joyful. And you seeing that? That's the greatest gift of all. So yes, Father's Day gets the short end of the stick. But we don't need a parade. We just need you to know we were there. That we are there. That all of this—raising you, protecting you, building a life around your safety and your dreams—was never about the clout. It was about love. We are the menders of broken things, the fixers of what can't be explained, the protectors of dreams we were never allowed to have. And all we ask for is a little love back. A little attention. A little acknowledgment that we didn't completely fumble the assignment. This year, give your dad what he actually needs: peace, presence, and a 'thank you' said like you mean it. And okay…maybe a trip to Costco, too. SEE ALSO: Op-Ed: Black Fathers Vs. Fun fact: Amazon has an "Internet Famous" section curated with TikTok-viral products. Here are a few of the current ones so beloved by reviewers that they are *definitely* worth the hype: A delightfully affordable instant foot peeling spray for anyone ready to go full YEEHAW!! on that at-home pedicure. This not only helps gently remove dead skin, but moisturizes dry and cracked heels, so you'll really get some refreshing bang for your buck. La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF 40 Tinted Sunscreen, aka the "holy grail" of tinted sunscreens — reviewers love this lightweight, buildable formula so much that a lot of them replaced their foundation with it altogether. If you're in the market for some subtle but effective coverage that won't get goopy or settle in pores, this is your sunscreen match made in heaven. Lottabody's Coconut Oil Foaming Curl Mousse designed for all hair types to give you satisfyingly hydrated, volumized, frizz-free curls at a FRACTION of the price of its competitors. Clinique Almost Lipstick Tinted Lip Balm in *PINK* Honey — aka, the sweet, subtle sister of the iconic "Black Honey" that has been so popular over the past few decades that it just about broke TikTok when it finally had its moment over there. The skin tone-matching, pH-adaptive pink version is every bit as buildable, polished, and decadent feeling as the original black honey, and perfect for everyday makeup looks. L'Oreal Paris Infallible 3-Second Setting Spray Mist so darn phenomenal at its job that one reviewer calls it "hairspray for your face," and several compare it to the $34 One/Size setting spray at triple the price. This ultra-fine formula sprays on lightly and leaves a natural finish, but just one spray is designed to LOCK IN your look for 36 hours. A delightful little tool called the "Bug Bite Thing" — it suctions on all kinds of bug bites to reduce swelling, itchiness, and redness. Color Wow Xtra Large Bombshell Volumizer, a foam your can apply to your roots when you're styling to take your blowout to the next level, even when the humidity is doing its best to keep your locks down. Reviewers with fine hair especially swear by this for an immediate, long-lasting lift! A wildly beloved floral-forward vanilla perfume so deliciously perfect for summer that you'll be like, "Is it appropriate to bathe in this?" This sunny scent leans warm and tropical, with reviewers noting a hint of mango in the vanilla. It's all the bright happiness of summer in a soft, sophisticated, gourmand scent. Jergens Natural Glow Firming Self Tanner Body Lotion to give you a gradually building, vacation-worthy ~sunkissed glow~ over the course of just a few days. Not only is this easy peasy to apply compared to other finickier, streaking lotions, but it's formulated with collagen and elastin to help your skin appear firmer *and* glowier. Monday Haircare Dry Shampoo with all the oil-absorbing, refreshing power of its competitors, *plus* added keratin for protection against frizz and breakage. The subtle gardenia scent is just extra extra credit after all that. An affordable, Lululemon-esque longline sports bra so comfy, supportive, and versatile that reviewers love it both for outdoor workouts, gym use, *and* errand running. This is designed to be supportive without being too compressive, with lightweight fabric that keeps you breezy in the heat. Catrice "Instant Awake" Under Eye Brightener, which will be your holy grail for concealing and brightening dark circles under your eyes when your summer schedule is throwing you for a loop. This lightweight, color-adapting formula is designed for truly ~invisible~ coverage that makes a drastic difference — one that a lot of reviewers compare to the $33 Becca version. A three-pack of retro-style sunglasses so you can shove an emergency pair in your tote bag, glove compartment, and/or stroller so the glare of the sun can never take you by surprise. 👀 A "Birthday Cake Stick" lip balm that earned its place as a cult-fave — not only is this super nourishing on your lips, but it tastes like vanilla cake, buttercream icing, and rainbow sprinkles, so now you can have your cake and moisturize with it, too. A buttery soft (and pregnancy-friendly!) Butterluxe athletic skort so lightweight, comfortable, and breezy that it will become the MVP of your warm weather wardrobe in no time flat. And a pair of high-waisted "Secretsculpt" biker shorts with some real booty-lifting action (AND NO FRONT SEAM!!) that will have you admiring your reflection in shop windows all summer long. Psst — reviewers compare these to the WAY more expensive Lululemon Align shorts and Halara's UltraSculpt, and these come in a whopping 11 colors!! E.l.f. Glow Reviver Melting Lip Balm for all the ultra fans of Summer Fridays, Rhode, and Laneige whose bank accounts are begging them to put a stop to the lippie madness. These new deliciously tinted, moisturizing, buildable glosses are just as buttery and decadent as the balms that inspired them, for a fraction of the price. (Brb, drowning myself in the "Strawberry Shortcake" and "Vanilla Toffee" flavors.) Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Anti-Frizz Serum, aka humidity's WORST ENEMY. 😈 This super lightweight argan oil solution is designed for all hair types to help manage frizz and define waves and curls without weighing them down, and will be the MVP in your hair arsenal in the warmer temps. Sol de Janeiro's Jet Set for anyone who wants to try all the most iconic products that come in the brand's cult-favorite "sunshine" scents without paying a pretty penny for all three — now you can snag a Bum Bum Cream, body and hair mist, *and* body wash in one convenient set, and even take them traveling with you. A roomy sandproof mesh tote bag so you can take all your belongings to and from the beach *without* taking half the beach home with you. 🫠 And a deliciously versatile weekender bag you'll reach for any time you need a bag for the gym, a carry-on bag for traveling, or a good old-fashioned "I must pack a zillion things for this child I created" bag for a day out. This is not only designed with comfort-padded handles and an adjustable long strap for extra ease, but it is made with a water-resistant nylon, and has all *kinds* of super convenient pockets and compartments. A mess-free, reusable Bluey aqua art pad for any parent who wants a deeply convenient, screen-free, portable way to keep kids occupied (or any aunt and uncle who wants to flex their treat-finding skills). A holy grail–worthy adjustable sports bra made with buttery soft fabric and designed with a four-way stretch and a *chef's kiss* perfect amount of comfy compression, meaning for once you might actually — gasp — enjoy putting on your workout gear. And a nonslip wire-free strapless bra so comfy that you might be like, "Wait — am I wearing a bra??" halfway through the day. This will be your wardrobe's BFF for all your dresses and shirts with fun necklines! Mixsoon Bean SPF 50 Sunscreen with an ~airy~ texture, making this K-beauty staple perfect for anyone who loves a good SPF but hates the icky sticky feeling of it. This feather-light, hydrating sunscreen plays so well with makeup that it's about to become the primer of your ✨dreams. ✨ A set of golden bracelets giving ~quiet luxury~ vibes at "I want to pay rent this month" prices. Reviewers especially love these mix-and-match sets because they look like expensive versions from Cartier — the middle one is giving the $8,000 "Juste Un Clou" and the studded one is giving the $6,000 "Love Bracelet!" A pair of ultra-comfortable suede cork footbed sandals with some *major* Birkenstock energy at a fraction of the price. Reviewers are so obsessed with the support, durability, and comfort of these that a bunch of them went back for extra colors. A suuuper thin, breathable Hanes slub knit hoodie as the ultimate "just in case" layer on days when the weather is having an existential crisis and taking you for the ride. A John Deere Bubble Lawn Mower for some real YEEHAWWWWWW energy in the backyard this summer. Now your tiny humans can help the big humans fix up the lawn in style! E.l.f.'s Holy Hydration! Thirst Burst Drops, another home run from the brand's moisturizing "Holy Hydration" line that reviewers are comparing to the $35 Watermelon Dew Drops from Glow Recipe. This lightweight formula is designed to brighten and plump skin for a dewy effect, whether you're wearing it alone, applying it under your makeup, or mixing it with your foundation. A luxe, super soft two-piece pajama set with some real "vacation mode" energy, so even if your summer travel plans are "backyard" and "someone else's backyard," you can still feel like you're on a tropical getaway. Psst — reviewers compare these to the $128 Roller Rabbit version! 👀 Truly "Glazed Donut" After Shave Oil made with vanilla, niacinamide, passionfruit, and hyaluronic acid for a luxuriously hydrated, deliciously-scented post-shave feel. A lot of reviewers with sensitive skin swear by this moisturizing serum to help with post-shave irritation, especially in tender areas. A chic little clear crossbody stadium bag so cute, efficient, and well-priced that you might as well buy some extra for the pals you already KNOW are going to forget theirs before all the fun concerts this summer.

33 Beauty Products You'll Honestly Be Mad You Didn't Know About Before Now

Laneige's Neo Blurring Powder to absorb oil and blur pores so effectively that you'll be like, "Oh ... witchcraft??" Might be the only explanation for how this can matte-ify your complexion while still keeping it radiant and glowy ✨. Kuumba Made's $11 Vanilla Bean fragrance roll-on and Golden Sky roll-on — the first is a "true vanilla" that layers with other scents like a dream, whereas Golden Sky is a decadent blend of vanilla, rose, and amber that does all the layering for you. These are potent, super long-lasting, and oh-so-delicious ... hence why TikTok keeps selling them out. 😬 L'Oréal Paris BB Cream, a FAST-acting, anti-redness moisturizer with results that feel like legitimate magic — especially considering its competitor, the Dr Jart+ Cicapair Color Correcting Cream, is over twice as expensive. Reviewers especially love this as a base for their makeup, because it leaves skin super soft and primed. Olay Super Serum Body Wash that will make anyone with dry or dull skin REJOICE — this is packed with niacinamide, shea butter, and collagen peptides to nourish your skin for 24-hour hydration that will make you feel ~luminous~. (Psst — this is the body wash version of their TikTok-famous, super effective facial Super Serum, so you KNOW they mean business.) Catrice "Instant Awake" Under Eye Brightener, which became the internet's holy grail — now in four shades! — for concealing and brightening dark circles under your eyes so fast that everyone's old concealers are doing double takes. This lightweight color-adapting formula is designed for truly ~invisible~ coverage that makes a drastic difference. And a firming eye cream that uses vitamin C, vitamin E, rose hip seed oil, and hibiscus flower extract to brighten and firm that sensitive skin around your eyes and neck not just on a day-to-day basis, but a long-term one, too. Mixsoon's Bean Essence, a TikTok-beloved K-beauty staple for exfoliating and hydrating that anyone chasing the ~glass skin~ look will want to know about immediately. You can use this as a low-maintenance, high results exfoliant by massaging it into your skin two to three times a week for a smoother, brighter, more even complexion. A bottle of sulfate-free biotin shampoo that thousands of reviewers swear by for helping restore their hair and promote healthy hair growth over time. It also includes nourishing ingredients like rosemary oil, zinc, and coconut oil to help moisturize locks and give them a fuller, more volumized look. E.l.f's Lash XTNDR Tubing Mascara, a GODSEND for anyone with thin or fragile lashes. This uses lightweight ~tubing~ technology to wrap around lashes and give them a natural-looking, smudge-proof extension so good it almost looks fake. The real boon, though, is how easily the "tubes" slide off in clean, easy swipes at the end of the day when you're washing your face — absolutely no smudging, over-scrubbing, or special eye makeup removal products required. And E.l.f.'s Pro Eyelash Curler, aka your secret lash weapon — mascaras are all well and good, but this contoured, gentle, super effective curler is what is gonna get you that BIG lash drama your eyeballs crave. Orrrr Arishine's Reusable Magnetic Eyeliner and Lashes Kit that lets you skip the hassle of cheap glue or expensive salon extensions — this comes with an eyeliner with ultra-fine magnetic particles that connect the lashes, making it so easy to use that it's converting regular fake lash wearers left and right. Reviewers love that these stay PUT and can be reused over and over with the proper care. MagicMinerals AirBrush Foundation, which lives up to its name and THEN some — one quick spray of the foundation on the included brush, and it glides so smoothly and subtly over your skin texture that you'll feel like a makeup artist did it for you. Reviewers in their thirties, forties, and up especially swear by this lightweight but effective formula, and love that it's ridiculously easy to use. A USB-rechargeable portable water flosser that gets the job done just as effectively without having to lug a planet-size device in your bag. A lot of reviewers love the small profile of this gizmo so much they use it as as every day one at home, too! Skala's Mais Cacho Hair 2-in-1 Conditioning Treatment, the holy grail of curly hair products — you can either use it as a conditioning treatment, or wear it all day in your curls both to style and condition for all-day hair repair. Reviewers swear by it for healthier, bouncier, more well-defined curls, and love how gently it helps detangle, too. Londontown "Nail Veil" Protectant, which is designed not only to protect your nails, but to act as a sheer tint to enhance their natural look. It's basically "no makeup makeup," but for your fingernails. A deliciously soothing, super gentle Briotech spray reviewers compare to the pricier Tower 28 SOS Spray. It's similarly designed with hypochlorous acid, which targets bacteria that causes acne, skin irritation, and blemishes *without* drying your skin. Reviewers swear by this handy little spray for helping not just with acne, but rosacea, eczema, dryness, dermatitis (scalp included!), and even toenail fungus. Glossmetics' Lychee Overnight Lip Mask, a Laneige or Tatcha alternative that's already a cult-fave in the making — you can wear this non-stick, ultra glossy lip shine during the day or overnight as a lip treatment to help hydrate, soften, and condition your lips. Not to mention you will taste *delectable* all day and night. (Just ask the many lychee martinis I have downed on this here earth!) Sol De Janeiro Brazilian Milky Leave-In Conditioner to not only defrizz your hair, soften it, and protect it from heat, but to leave you smelling like the oh-so-scrumptious, wildly-beloved Cheirosa 62 "sunshine" fragrance — you know, that pistachio, jasmine, and vanilla scent that has the OG Bum Bum Cream and Hair & Body Mists constantly on the verge of selling out. Aloderma Organic Aloe Vera Gel for your WHOLE body — this packs such an "all-purpose" moisturizing, skin-calming punch that reviewers swear by it for everything from healing cracked, dry skin to helping calm rosacea and sunburns to tackling dandruff that even prescription meds wouldn't touch. GO, LITTLE MOISTURIZER, GO!! First Aid Beauty's Facial Radiance Pads, a set of compostable (!!) beauty prep pads you can use before putting on makeup to gently tone and exfoliate your skin, making it the ultimate primer for getting the most out of your foundation. Bonus — unlike a lot of toning products, these are super gentle and sensitive skin-friendly! Medicube Deep Vitamin C Golden Capsule Face Moisturizer for a K-beauty staple that's almost a little *too* fun to use — it comes with liposome capsules you can pop on your skin, helping oxidize, brighten, and smooth your complexion with the added burst of concentrated vitamin C and niacinamide. This is designed to have both instant *and* lasting results, with many reviewers noting an immediate difference in skin's radiance after the first use! A Benzene-free, travel-friendly applicator of I Dew Care's dry shampoo powder so easy to use that you can just dab it on your hairline and rub it in for an instant, oil-absorbing refresh. Now your "no wash" days are a secret that you and your roots will never tell 👀. Nyx's Lip IV Hydrating Gloss Serum for anyone who's ever been like, "It's too bad lip gloss, lip stain, and lip balm can't have a glamorous, long-lasting, moisturizing baby." Turns out they CAN! And it comes with 12 hours of hydration to boot! Catrice's Magic Shaper Face Cream Palette as an $8 alternative to the $88 (!!) Makeup Forever Palette. This includes a range of highly-pigmented, super blendable shades to help you contour, highlight, and bronze on days when your Gcal just say "GO GO GO" all the way down. (Psst — this is the same brand behind the TikTok-famous $6 Under Eye Brightener, so you know they mean business!) A beautifully packaged, travel-friendly Touchland Power Mist hydrating hand sanitizer for anyone who's like "mindfully practicing health and safety, but make it fashion." Unlike other sanitizer sprays, it's infused with aloe vera to keep your skin hydrated and has the most luxurious floral scents. Joesoef's pharmaceutical-grade anti-acne sulfur soap that people with acne, rosacea, dermatitis, and clogged pores swear by for helping clear their skin and relieve the tenderness. A lot of reviewers noted that they found this specific product after their dermatologists recommended it to them! A bottle of callus-removing gel so effective at sloughing off dead, hardened skin that one reviewer described it as, "Horrifically satisfying." It's also super easy — you presoak your feet, apply for five minutes, and rub a pumice stone or foot file on the calluses and corns to watch them effortlessly slide off. An "Exfoliate & Glow" scrub mitt for that oh-so-squeaky clean sensation that comes with sloughing off dead skin. No, for real — one reviewer saw all the dead skin left in their shower floor and dubbed themselves a "Lizard Person" after shedding it. This is great for helping even out skin texture and tone, preventing ingrown hairs, calming keratosis pilaris, and removing self-tanner, too! Plus a bar soap bag, which is the ultimate hack not just to exfoliate your skin with your favorite bar soaps, but to *really* get your money's worth out of them — these produce much richer lather so a little goes a loooong way, and you won't have to replace your bars as often. Good Molecules Discoloration Correcting Serum for a deliiiightfully affordable way to address dark spots and sun damage without taking out a second mortgage. (Why is skincare so expensive??) You can apply a few drops of this serum to your skin before moisturizing at morning and night for noticeable results in as soon as a few weeks. A hair identifier spray to make shaving or dermaplaning *that* much more efficient — this not only highlights where your hair is so you don't miss a spot, but also moisturizes and protects skin while you're shaving. This is also a great way to ensure you aren't *over*-shaving areas, since you'll know right away if the hair is taken care of! The Ordinary's Multi-Depth Hydration Serum to achieve that "glassy," plumped effect *without* breaking the whole bank. This delightfully affordable, super effective serum helps hydrate and protect your skin barrier so you wake up with firm, refreshed skin.
