Former quarterback Michael Vick is among those who speak out against Brett Favre in a new Netflix documentary that follows the 'fall' of the three-time NFL MVP quarterback, who has been accused of sexual harassment and stealing money from the poor.
Favre's off-the-field controversies are at the center of UNTOLD: The Fall of Favre, which began streaming Tuesday on Netflix. The hourlong doc follows Favre's rise as a Super Bowl-winning quarterback with the Green Bay Packers to his tumultuous exit from the league, his 2010 sexting scandal and the more recent allegations that he took part in a multimillion dollar plot to siphon money from Mississippi's welfare funds.
Favre, 55, has long denied the allegations and refused to be interviewed for the Netflix documentary.
Vick, 44, however, speaks out about what it's like to be an NFL quarterback and how some players are offered exemptions based on who they are. The former Atlanta Falcons quarterback, who once spent 548 days in prison for charges related to a Virginia dog-fighting ring, seemingly says in the doc that Favre is 'untouchable' while discussing Favre's role in the Mississippi welfare scandal.
'People go to jail for stealing money everyday,' Vick says. 'If it's that important, the right institutions can get involved. But, you know, some people are untouchable in certain ways and that's just the way it is. I just think that's kinda how the system is rigged. You know, some situations have to be played out in court. Some have to be played out in the public.'
Favre has not been charged in the Mississippi welfare scandal, despite texts to state officials discussing whether he could get in trouble if 'the media' finds out where the money came from. State officials are alleged to have redirected upwards of $77 million to Favre and his pet projects, including building a volleyball stadium at the University of Southern Mississippi, where his daughter played volleyball.
Favre was called to testify in front of the U.S. Congress House Ways and Means Committee in September 2024. Clips of the testimony are shown in the doc, and show some of lawmakers fawning over his football skills during the congressional appearance while other attendees asking for the quarterback's autograph afterwards.
'Brett Favre, with his name, ID, and reputation, could have done a lot of good for a state like Mississippi,' Mississippi Rep. Bennie Thompson says in the documentary. 'But he didn't. He took advantage of the people who were on that path and struggling.'

The new Netflix doc juxtaposes fans' idolization of Favre alongside the allegations that have clouded him, especially in his home state of Mississippi. The documentary includes interviews with reporters, Mississippi lawmakers, sports columnists and former players who address the treatment Favre has received in response to both the 2010 sexting scandal and the ongoing welfare scandal.
'If you are perceived as a superstar and you're white, in many instances you get a pass,' Thompson says. 'Brett Favre is getting a pass.'
He adds: 'In certain circles, he's still an icon. That doesn't mean that he can't do wrong. He did do wrong. I don't know how he sleeps at night.'

Four-Team Kevin Durant Trade Idea Sends Suns Star to West Contender

Four-Team Kevin Durant Trade Idea Sends Suns Star to West Contender originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Phoenix Suns are expected to trade Kevin Durant this offseason after missing the playoffs and the play-in tournament this season. Advertisement Mike Budenholzer was fired by the Suns as head coach after just one season in the desert. Shams Charania of ESPN is reporting that Phoenix will hire Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Jordan Ott as its next head coach. Devin Booker was involved in the Suns' coaching search, but Durant wasn't because the two-time Finals MVP likely won't be on the team next season. With Durant trade rumors heating up, Sam Quinn of CBS Sports proposed the following trade idea between the Suns, Minnesota Timberwolves, Orlando Magic and Brooklyn Nets: Suns get: Julius Randle, Mike Conley, Goga Bitadze, Terrence Shannon Jr., No. 25 pick Advertisement Magic get: Donte DiVincenzo Timberwolves get: Kevin Durant Nets get: Gary Harris, No. 46 pick This NBA trade idea has Kevin Durant going from Phoenix to Minnesota. Rick Scuteri-Imagn Images Durant and Anthony Edwards were teammates on Team USA last summer. Edwards has said multiple times that Durant is his favorite player of all time. Durant turns 37 in the fall. He averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Suns this season while shooting 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from 3 and 83.9% from the free-throw line. One of the top players in NBA history, Durant has career averages of 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Suns. He won two rings and two Finals MVPs with the Warriors. Advertisement "This would, in essence, be Minnesota trading the depth that was so significant to its last two playoff pushes to upgrade Randle into Durant," Quinn wrote. "Doing so would have still been obvious in February. Now, after Randle finished the season strong (before the Thunder series, at least), it's more of a question."But, ultimately, the price here is so low that they'd have to pull the trigger. "Edwards idolized Durant growing up. They played together on Team USA. This trade would as much be about appeasing their best player as it would be competing. Of course, it helps on the contention front as well." According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, the Timberwolves contacted an Eastern Conference team to help facilitate a Durant trade in February. Minnesota lost in the conference finals again this year, so the franchise may look to trade for Durant once again this offseason. Steelers receive bad news regarding free agent WR Gabe Davis

Steelers receive bad news regarding free agent WR Gabe Davis The Steelers' search for a veteran wide receiver continues, as a prominent insider provided some troubling news regarding free agent Gabe Davis — who met with Pittsburgh on Thursday. On Friday's Good Morning Football, insider Ian Rapoport alluded to potential health concerns that are holding up the deal: 'They hosted Gabe Davis for a visit,' Rapoport stated. 'Not quite ready — health-wise — yet.' Davis tore his meniscus in Week 11 of the 2024 season and was released by the Jaguars this past May. The initial report that Davis would meet with Pittsburgh on Thursday had Steelers fans hopeful the team would finally add a veteran WR presence — but for now, a signing may not be in the cards. The arrival of Aaron Rodgers, while polarizing, brings a spark to the Steelers offense — and providing any additional weapons for the four-time MVP to utilize in 2025 is the best path forward. But with Davis' injury concerns preventing a deal, who should Pittsburgh target next? For up-to-date Steelers coverage, follow us on X @TheSteelersWire and give our Facebook page a like.

Cowboys great, Super Bowl champion Tom Rafferty dead at 70

Former NFL star Tom Rafferty died in Colorado Thursday, The Dallas Morning News confirmed. The 1978 Super Bowl champion was 70. Rafferty recently had a stroke, and the former offensive lineman had been hospitalized since early May. He played guard and center during his standout career with the Dallas Cowboys. Rafferty played for the Cowboys from 1976-89. During that span, he was a key part of an offensive line that helped protect Hall of Fame quarterbacks Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman. Before he became a fourth-round draft pick, Rafferty played for the Penn State Nittany Lions. Rafferty earned a Super Bowl ring when the Cowboys defeated the Denver Broncos in the 1978 Super Bowl. He played in another Super Bowl after the 1978 season, albeit in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Perhaps Rafferty's most memorable career moment happened in January 1983 when he delivered the key block to help spring Tony Dorsett's record-setting 99-yard touchdown run in a game against the Minnesota Vikings. After his playing days, Rafferty spent time working in sports equipment sales. He is survived by his wife, their two children and grandchildren.
