The Powassan Voodoos have signed North Bay U18 AAA Trappers power forward Cameron Lockhart, the club announced on Wednesday.

The 6'2', 194 pound right shot forward selected in the 15th round of the 2024 OHL Priority Selection by the North Bay Battalion, is coming off an impressive season in Great North U18 League where he had 18 goals and 25 assists for 43 points in only 23 games with the North Bay U18 AAA Trappers coached by former Voodoos assistant coach Josh Dale.
'It's an honour, it's a fast game and I can't wait for the new season,' Lockhart said about playing for the Battalion affiliate team.
'I am ready to work, I want to win a championship and hopefully we can get something good going this season.'
Chris Dawson, Voodoos GM, likes what the 2008 birth year forward brings to the Voodoos for the 2025-26 season.
'Cam has a lot of great tools,' said Dawson.
'He likes to play on the edge and scouts have compared his game to Matthew Tkachuk's. He has a great combination of skill, physicality along with a great shot that we are excited to see this upcoming season.'
Lockhart was among the 88 players who attended the Voodoos Prospects Camp on the July 5 and 6 weekend at Pete Palangio Arena in North Bay.
The North Bay product will continue to train in preparation for both the Voodoos training camp which begins August 20 and the North Bay Battalion training camp which starts August 25.

Jeff Carter will return to Sault Ste. Marie this fall for one final moment in the spotlight — this time, in the rafters. Article content The longtime NHL forward and Greyhounds alumnus announced Thursday morning via the team's social media that his No. 7 jersey will be officially retired on Saturday, Nov. 22, during a special pre-game ceremony at GFL Memorial Gardens. Article content Carter, who captained the Greyhounds and later carved out a 19-year NHL career that included two Stanley Cups, will be on hand for the special ceremony as part of the team's home game against the London Knights that evening. Article content Article content 'Jeff Carter was a great Greyhound who went on to have a long and decorated NHL career,' said Greyhounds president and governor Tim Lukenda in a news release. 'We will be very proud to recognize Jeff's accomplishments by having his jersey hanging among those of other Greyhound legends.' Article content Article content Carter will join John Vanbiesbrouck (1), Craig Hartsburg (4), Adam Foote (5), Ron Francis (10), Joe Thornton (19), and Wayne Gretzky (99) as the only Hounds to have their numbers retired. Thornton's number was the most recent addition to the rafters, being honoured in November 2023. Article content Originally selected third overall in the 2001 OHL Priority Selection, Carter made an immediate impact in Sault Ste. Marie. Over four seasons with the Greyhounds (2001–2005), he recorded 123 goals and 123 assists in 236 regular-season games. He added 12 points in 15 playoff contests and was named captain for his final two seasons. Article content Article content The London, Ont., native was a standout at the junior level, earning spots in the CHL Top Prospects Game and multiple OHL All-Star teams. In 2005, he was named CHL Sportsman of the Year and a First Team All-Star. Article content 'Putting the Greyhounds jersey on over my four-year career in the Soo was so special,' Carter said in a statement. 'Now having it hanging in the rafters alongside the Soo Greyhounds greats means the world to my family and I. I can't wait to get back up to the Soo and show my family around the great city of Sault Ste. Marie and see all the familiar faces.' Article content Carter represented Canada internationally at the U17, U18, and U20 levels, including a gold medal performance at the 2005 World Juniors, where he scored seven goals in six games. Article content Drafted 11th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2003, Carter played 1,321 NHL games with the Flyers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Los Angeles Kings, and Pittsburgh Penguins. He finished his career with 442 goals and 409 assists, won Stanley Cups with the Kings in 2012 and 2014, appeared in two NHL All-Star Games, and helped Canada win Olympic gold at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi.

Article content Article content With holdover left winger Ihnat Pazii of Ukraine, Dubrovtsev and Arseny Pronin of Belarus, the Battalion's second-round pick, fill out North Bay's quota of three imports, increased from two. All are expected to be at training camp, which opens Aug. 25 at Boart Longyear Memorial Gardens. He played nine games with the St. Petersburg U17 team, scoring two goals and earning four assists for six points with four PiM. He turns 19 on Dec. 4. Article content The Powassan brought back a familiar local player to their offensive group with the addition of forward Jesse Lefebvre. Article content The Voodoos acquired the 19-year-old product from Sturgeon Falls from the Renfrew Wolves of the Central Canadian Hockey League for a development fee. Article content 'It's great to be back around the Bay,' said Lefebvre, a 2022 draft pick of the North Bay Battalion. Article content Article content The 5-foot-9, 160-pound forward had nine goals and seven assists for 16 points in 50 games in the CCHL last season. Article content Article content In his rookie season of Junior 'A' hockey with the French River Rapids in 2023-24, Lefebvre had 13 goals and 24 assists for 37 points in 56 games. Article content In his final year of U18 hockey, Lefebvre racked up 19 goals and 28 assists for 47 points in 28 games with the U18 AAA Trappers, who won the Great North U18 title in 2022-23. Article content During that season with the U18 Trappers, Lefebvre played the majority of his time alongside current Voodoos players Justin Rousseau and Caleb Dawson. Article content 'We already have that connection so it will work right away.' Article content Lefebvre becomes the 6th member of that U18 Trappers championship team from 2022-23 to join the Voodoos for the upcoming season, joining Rousseau, Dawson, Cayden Kowal, Anthony Boyes and Heath Bradley. Article content Article content 'He will still have to blend well with guys that are here, but I like the way it is looking and super excited to have six guys off one team that came together and won a championship, that doesn't happen very often,' said Peter Goulet, Powassan Voodoos head coach. Article content Aside from his offence, Lefebvre is also known as an agitator who proudly boasts he models his game after Stanley Cup winner Brad Marchand of the Florida Panthers. Article content 'I have always been a Marchand fan and I always will be,' said Lefebvre.
